Cool set up, and thanks for sharing your smart design tips. For what it’s worth, as a native of Yakima, I can tell you the “Yak” in Yakima is pronounced like the word “back”, as opposed to the word “”jock”. Hence the phrase “yack attack!”. And, the “eau” in “tonneau” is ponounced like “oh”, not “ooo”, like choo choo. :-) I’m not being critical of your good content. I’m grateful for it, just trying to slow the new and growing trend of calling tonneau covers “tonooo” covers. Id never heard that until about two years ago and now it’s all over the net. Cool truck and please keep the content coming!
Great review of the Yakima rack. I did a similar review on my challenge last year with my RetraxOne XR cover. Yakima products are in high demand and short supply at the moment. I didn't get the side bars last year and decided I wanted them this year to hold Rotopax's (after the fuel shortages) and it took 5 months of placing orders to find a place that had them in stock and could ship. Ending up getting from REI and was just lucky spotting them in stock online.
I didnt see anybody else mention it but you really should slap those locks on if you haven't. That shovel is just begging to be used to smash your windows.
Great video. I have same set up on Raptor. I want to add a 5 lbs propane tank. Do you have any recommendation as to which bracket would work best with Yakima rack?
Do you have any picture of the cage underneath the overhaul? I am literally in the process of doing that setup. Are those the landing pads with the skyline towers?
Nice truck and setup! I considered a similar setup with the tonneau for added security for storage. One thing that is a bummer that I came across some time ago is that when using the tonneau kit feet the offroad weight rating of the rack drops to 180lbs(from 300lbs).
@@varsityoverland I’m sure you are fine, plus you have added the sidebars and the setup has everything close together due to the midsized short bed, as opposed to everything being extended and raised far apart.
Is it easy to detach for short day trip to haul boat when the plan is not to camp? Also, is there an option to Velcro fabric with antennae awning to insulate truck bed to use as emergency camper for additional people during emergency?
I believe you put 55” as the length of the crossbars but maybe that was from the cap to the cap on each side…? Do you know if those are the 60” or the 68” crossbars? Yakima’s site configuration says midsize uses 68” but that seems long to me. Just curious what length fits without a ton hanging over each side.
Great review. I wonder if the yakima rack is compatible with Pace Edwards Jackrabbit tonneau cover. Did they discontinue the tonneau kit ? Seems unavailable or backorder😕
Im not sure about the Jackrabbit but I have heard a few people mention they're having a hard time finding the tonneau kit🤷♂️. Unfortunately I dont know much about its availability.
Great video! I had a question around the weight capacity. I know yakima states 300lbs on road / 180lbs off road. Is 300lbs the static weight limit too? I'm just wondering if it can support a 3 people.
I believe the static load is even greater. I did a lot of research before purchasing the rack because I knew itd be carrying a lot of weight. Ive had the rack for almost 2 years and haven't had any issues. It supports my wife and I with our dog inside our rooftop tent. We camp very frequently and have also stressed the rack consistently with continuous cross country travel. I highly recommend it👍
Did those factory iKamper clamps not work for the Yakima crossbars? I have the same tent and I’m looking to add those HD Yakima towers to my Sierra. Thx
After posting this video I had someone comment saying that they were able to use the factory ikamper clamps. When I did research online I read on the Rack-attack website that they dont work, which is why I bought the different clamps🤷♂️
I have the iKamper X-Cover 2.0 mini and went to install it on my overhauls hd rack with the side rails but the x-cover 2.0 mini mounting channels were too short to mount with the Yakima side rails installed. Needless to say I had to remove the side rails and push my towers in closer to each other. I reached out to iKamper and they don’t sell the mounting channels individually as I was looking for some longer ones that would work with the Yakima side rails. I may have to go the aluminum extrusion route but then I’ll lose out on iKamper mounting brackets 3.0. If you have any insight on where I could score some longer iKamper mounting channels, let me know!
Occasionally I get some liquid drip down the 4 corners of the truck bed but very little. And the cab rack is from Prinsu Design Studios. I have a review video of that rack as well if you'd like to check it out👍
They sure do! I only carry the shove when I go camping. Its just more convenient than getting my other gear dirty if I throw it in the bed after using it. Its advertised for canoe or kayak paddles. I have a set on the inside of the rack I use to carry my axe.
@@varsityoverland there’s so many options out there, currently i have the rack with an awning and a cargo box. It’s raining here in california so now I’m back to looking into trying to keep stuff dry. Either a dexked system or a tanneau cover
Im not sure if the new Santa Cruz has a t-track along the side of the cover. If so it may work or you'd have to supplement with your own 1/4" carriage bolts.
Thank you! I think it was around $800 or so just for the rack. I actually tested it out before I got the tonneau by getting one from REI. If you have a local REI store definitely consider buying from them. They have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. I was able to buy the rack, install it, take it off roading in VA, then return it for the tonneau adapter option. REI was made aware of everything and still refunded me for the original rack. Nothing was wrong with it, i just needed one with the tonneau adapter and had already ordered it by mistake.

Im not sure but the overland hd cross bars have a T - slot on top so id imagine if the quick release bracket attaches with a T bolt it could work.
Two questions: 1. Does rain or snowmelt drip past the tonneau cover? 2. What cab/roof rack is that?

Thats a Yakima product called the "top grip" designed specifically for this rack👍

Can you install tie down anchors and carry things on top of the closed tonnneau?

Do you have to drill holes for the Overhaul Side rack into the uprights? Thanks
The uprights come with predrilled holes and bolts already installed. No drilling needed👍
What do you recommend for the bottom if you had the option to buy the crossbars again? Skyline or HD bars?
Id definitely recommend the HD bars. They are more expensive but can hold more weight 👍
