Nice set up and thanks for posting. I’m curious to know if this rack system would be compatible and/or work for a truck with a foldable tonneau cover? And is it possible to mount a cargo box on those crossbars, assuming they’re not too wide which will affect the actual clamps on the box from properly securing. Thanks
@LuisPerez-vy6bz Thanks for watching! Unfortunately, I've never seen one compatible with a foldable tonneau cover. Although Yakima is releasing new products all of the time so maybe messaging them directly is worth a shot. I think it's possible to mount cases to the side rails. They also make a molle panel option now that replaces the side rail. That might be a better option because of the flat surface.
@ thanks for the info and I’ll keep that in mind. I’ll keep an eye out if not, I have an idea of how ll end up setting it up without having to upgrade to a RetraxPro for my truck.
@@LuisPerez-vy6bz the guys at the local shop I work with have shared some ideas about modifying bedracks to work with foldable covers. I'm sure if Yakima does carry a product to do it, you could still find a way to DIY it.
@ sweet! Now im curious to know what exactly they’re referring to, since I want to start getting this project going before Spring rolls around. Much appreciated!
It looks like you have some sort of locking nut for the stand bases; where did you get those at? Getting ready to install this system and looking for theft deterants
@michaelb7611 I believe those locking nuts came with the bedrack kit or tonneau adapter kit. I never bought an extra locking product fro Yakima so I believe it came standard in one of those 2 kits
Great review! But I am wondering why did you switch from the bolts to the Yakima recovery board mounts? Not sure if I missed that part of video, but just curious as to why you made the switch? Thanks!
Hey there! I bought the recovery board mount at the same time I bought the rack. Unfortunately my old recovery boards didn't fit so I held onto the mount until I bought Maxtrax. The old bolts were just temporary in order to mount my old boards.
Yep, I’m wondering how easily removable the crossbars are since I’ve got the Diamondback HD cover. Also deciding on width since I’ve got the RamBoxes narrowing things a bit. I’m leaning toward the 60” so everything can be tucked in if I add any mounting brackets to the crossbars.
Do they slide down any more so it’s not such an air gap between a tent and the cab? I have a zr2 as well and want to run a bed rack/tent combo and also still use my tailgate pad for MTB
Do you know the total weight for the racks and the tonneau cover. Great setup but I'm concerned about payload because I'm going to pull a trailer as well
Unfortunately I dont know the weight but I honestly wouldn't be too concerned. Since its aluminum its pretty light. Id check the specs on yakima if you're able
I'm trying to buy the Yak HD Overhaul at my local dealer now. He doesn't have the HD cross bars so he is pushing the Jet Stream bars instead. I'm concerned the Jetstreams will not hold the tent platform as well as the HD bars. Store is saying the Jetstream bars are just as good but more aero dynamic. Anyone have any opinions of the Jetstream cross bars? I suspect he is pushing them because he doesn't have the HDs in stock.
@@varsityoverland I appreciate and value your experiences. I felt the same way about the Jet Streams. I have found another dealer that does have the HD bars in stock so I may have to pick this up in pieces between the 2 dealers and assemble it myself.
@topwaterpursuit The assembly is straight forward and the Yakima instructions are well written. They also include a lot of diagrams of the installation. Feel free to message me with any questions too👍
I was very nervous putting my brand new beach cruiser on this rack. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxG6JIgwJhur8_Rg8UeQ3EmePzi_wSncL8 But after reading many reviews I decided to get this one and take a chance. When arrived it was very simple to adjust and put together. I also added spike tape over the metal hooks before securing and tightening the straps, and no scratches. I also purchased the top bar made by the same company so that my cruiser sits straight on the rack without having to turn upside down. Extra bungee cords are used to secure the front wheel from flapping and even piece of mind knowing your bike is secure. Definitely recommend...
I’ve got the same exact setup and I love it. Put it on the week I bought the truck and gave it hell
Can’t wait for the new sidebar MOLLE PANELS 👍👍

Nice Shout out to F&F Specialty Vehicles ! Another Nutmeger here!
Nice truck man. I had the same one with a Diesel. Head gasket went 😢 now I’m in a Sierra AT4. Gonna get the same rack setup.

Good stuff...i just bought one. Thanks for review
I enjoy your videos!!
Thanks a lot!! I enjoy making them😁✌️ and I appreciate the continued support 🙏
excellent video. thank you for sharing. May I ask, what tonneau cover do you use with the yakima rack? again, thanks.
Thanks I appreciate it 🙏 its a Pace Edwards Ultragroove by Leer
Solid looking rack, thanks for the update! Very in-depth.
Thanks!!

I see! So you upgraded your boards to the Maxtrax! Nice! I like those boards too....everything except for the price! Lol@@varsityoverland
@@ronaldm.9280 haha no kidding!
Does Yakima make an accessory for the side supports where the channel is you had the Carriage bolts to mount a bicycle carrier?
Sorry, I asked the question about tonneau cover too early... I see now the answer is in your video... THANK YOU.
No worries!! I responded to your question anyway 👍
where timestamp of tonneau?
I would only use it 6 times per year or so when we take our kayaks camping (with travel trailer). How easy are these to remove and put on?
Why did you decide to go with the Overhaul HD, over the Out Post rack?
My tooftop tent is too long to fit on the lower Outpost rack. The Overhaul HD allows my tent to extend over the cab of my truck
Are you happy with the tonneau cover? I’m thinking of a very similar setup, but can’t decide on a cover.
Soooo can you open up the tonail cover?
Does the work with a folding tonneau like the bakflip g2
What size length cross bars are you running?

What make/model is the cover?

Yes they can slide down to a point where the tent and cab wouldn't have a gap. Mine is a bit higher in order for my tent to clear the cab rack.
They do make shorter versions as well not just the standard size you see most people get.
Do you have photos of this setup with the lower rack installed and loaded?

Can this rack be used on a 2019 ram with a roll up tonneau cover?
What rack is that on top of your cabin?
Its a Prinsu roof rack from Prinsu Design Studio 👍
Can it go through an automatic car wash? If it has nothing on it?
Truthfully Ive never tried but I dont see why not🤷♂️
I have the same setup on my lifted Tacoma and I take mine through a touch-less car wash all the time. No problem.

I personally wouldn't substitute the HD bars for Jet Streams. I've owned both and the HD bars are much thicker. That is just my opinion 🤷♂️

Do you carry 10foot kayak on them racks? Debating on sweetroll or BigCatch?! What do you recommend
First attempt at hauling a kayak will be this Spring. Ill post an update 👍

Static load is actually 800lbs for this rack.
Your absolutely right! Thank you🙏
We always said it like this: The first syllable rhymes with "Jack", not "Jock" -- last syllable is pronounced "maw", not "muh" "YACK-u-MAW"
That’s how you know someone isn’t from Washington. I’ve never heard anyone pronounce it yockimuh though. It’s usually yakimuh.
Pretty sure the on-road spec is 500lbs, off-road is 300lbs and static is 800lbs.
YAK-ima, not YOCK-ima
When you lower the upper part all the way down, does it get lower the the truck roof?
Not lower per se, but out of the slipstream. Maybe even with the roof or an inch above?
