The only one that could have arguably been worthy was God Control. Medellin was bizarre. The latin-lite track is breezy and soft which clashed with the music videos bizarre story of a woman "beaten and abused" running from her own wedding with an eye patch. The whole thing felt disjointed and random, which is a shame, the song is sweet. Dark Ballet is an awful song, easily her worst. The only thing more self indulgent than the lyrics is the music video. Over-the-top, campy in a bad way, this video is difficult to watch through to the end. And not because of its "graphic" content. Because its corny and lacks any subtlety or nuance. She is literally beating us over the head with the message. It felt like something that is trying to pose as art, but isn't really. It felt like a propaganda piece. Crave is my favorite track from the entire album, and its also my favorite video. She looks gorgeous, the story is so so sweet, and Swae Lee's vocals are perfect here. But do I think it deserves to be awarded the best music video of 2019. Sadly, no. Its just a pretty video to what is easily her best song on Madame X.
God Control, for all its blatant messaging, is still a great video. Yes, Madonna comes off as some superior being overseeing the chaos, again a bit self righteous and self indulgent, but she looks amazing, the video is wholly entertaining, and it is such an important message. Do I think its the best video of the year? No. But I could understand it being nominated.

Just as I moved and cried when I saw the video "God Control", the clip "Batuka" moved me emotionally in my soul and my ancestor's history. My great - grandfather was a Portuguese from the Algarve and came to Minas Gerais, Brazil, to be able to invest. He met my great-grandmother, who was the slave of a farm in a town in the interior of MG. He asked for his manumission and they went to live together. They had six children, and my great-grandfather left my great-grandmother, a black woman, a former slave, abandoned by her big-money husband in the early 1900s. She suffered a lot to raise her children, but she fulfilled her mission in this reincarnation. She played Batuque that her mother taught her. Seeing her clip, my Queen Madonna , I remembered this story of my ancestor and I cried a lot to see this Masterpiece of art that is this clip! Congratulations, Queen @madonna! Aaron Clark, before insulting others, it would behoove you to do some basic research. 'Batuka' was written by Madonna Ciccone, her son David Banda and Mirwais Ahmadzaï, and produced by Madonna and Mirwais.
Madonna usually writes all or most lyrics, composes vocal melodies and, depending on the song, co-composes the instrumental. She wrote and produced over 300 songs (some of which are unreleased).
As for the rest, it's a collaboration like all artists do.

Dear god. I am actually ashamed of myself that I stopped following Madonna's music for a few years.(all music actually) Personal reasons. I was in a weird place. However, she didn't stop being true to her self. The reason why I have always believed in her is proven with this song. She is a true human being. A being that believes in equality of all people. A champion of human rights. A true universal being in every sense of the word.

Madonna has done this work for herself and each of us is called to listen to it in silence and make it our own. Madonna has now passed the threshold of stardom and has crossed the threshold of the empyrean. Specifically takes us to the Cape Verde ex Colony, using the batuque as a weapon of union in the empowerment of women.
