I've never been a Madonna listener, but I bought Rebel Heart and I really liked it. Once you hit your late 40s, radio don't care. I don't see why this, this is still better than a lot of the shit on radio.

And you are right, once you hit your mid -to-late 40's, radio don't care. May I suggest Like a Prayer album, especially if you like the idea of a confident, strong person (i.e. woman) asking some deep questions & making bold statements. It's great too if you like religious imagery.

In my view this is Madonna's best ever song lyrically and a high point of her writing. Bittersweetly beautiful and says so much. Has me cry tears of both sadness and hope.
Also seems very apt for these times in which certain powerful individuals have lost their way leaving others afraid of what they may be capable of and just how far they might go.
Video fits really well too with the 'family' of survivors. Such a beautiful, hopeful ending with the four survivors including the dog and child walking off united having found hope in a world that seems to not have much left.
Reminds us however much hate there will always be love, always be hope, always a different possible future. That even if divided we can still come together.
So has overtaken Ray of Light as my favorite Madonna song, but that's still a close second.

One of the best songs and videos Madonna ever made was called "Oh Father", from her 1989 "Like A Prayer" album. It is authentic and very powerful because she is really singing about herself in the song with great feeling. It was released as a single, but was perhaps not the right time to do as well as it may have done.

My mom loved Madonna so much. I went to my first Madge concert with my beloved mother at age 12 and a few after that. She passed away October 2021 a day before my 25th birthday. She was so young and had the kindest soul. I constantly question why it had to be that way but this song makes me feel closer to her somehow. If you still have your mother with you, give her an extra hug for me. It’s been so hard without her. She was my best friend.

When this song was originally released, for whatever reason, I didn't think much of it. Fast forward several years, my dad got very ill. He had this condition where he was progressively losing all of his movement, until he was bedridden and could only make guttural sounds (lost speech too). He was fully aware, but trapped in his body. It took about five years for him to pass from this. He died in 2023.
Witnessing my mom's devotion to him was both inspiring and heartbreaking. She stood by him day and night, for years, making sure he had everything he needed. I could write on and on about how she sacrificed all of her time, to the point of exhaustion, to be next to him. And no one could convince her to take a break. Her loving words to him, the way she held on and loved him, even when he could no longer reply with words, but with a slight whimper.
When I listen to this song now, I'm often moved to tears, thinking about my parents and their love for each other. And how, even though the story ended in tragedy (and really, which story doesn't?), they were together till the end. She was his fire when the lights went out, she was his cover. I miss my dad, but I know there's no way I can miss him half as much as my mom does.
The love of my life died April 19, 2024. This was our song. I'm just dying inside without him. No idea how I will go on with my life without him. 18 years. No one can ever replace him and there will never be anyone. Thank you Madonna for this beautiful song. Love you Paul so much!

This video is truly her best alongside Die Another Day. Her performance along with Terrence Howard's was just epic. I love the damaged Rebel Heart posters and her mother's photograph in the frame. It's so touching. It made me cry. I truly adore this masterpiece!

I'm not saying that because I'm a fan, but because history has written about this wonderful woman and her revolutionary works and the changes she made in the entertainment industry, her achievements and how many people she inspired, many who became artists and followed in her footsteps.
I'm so happy that we're finally getting a seemingly theatrical and story-driven music video. It's been so long. Most of her videos after Die Another Day were shot in a studio and mainly focused on dancing and looking hot, which is also good, but I missed story driven music videos, I missed the days when a music video would give a different meaning to a song, rather than just show how beautiful or sexually provocative a singer is or how awesome the graphic and fashion designers are. And this video along with the track seems to be the most different and original thing Madonna did for a long time.
Ghosttown is a love song, a positive one and a message about the world, and I think we truly miss positive love ballads. Most ballads and power ballads focus on the disappointment in love and the failure of a relationship or yearning for someone you cannot have, so I'm really happy that we finally got something positive. A love that defies everything, even the apocalypse.
