I don’t care what anyone says, Rey’s theme is beyond power of speech, it’s such a beautifully composed piece of music and I get goosebumps everytime I listen to it, John Williams is one of the greatest composers of our time and I know for a fact every Star Wars fan can at least agree on that.
It's a shame even his wonderful music can't make the new disney movies watchable. Oh well, I'll download the OST, close my eyes and try to imagine how much better the movies could have been.
This man is a musical genius. The themes he's done, they're the best out there. Some of the soundtracks he's done have made the films they were for. I bet A New Hope would NEVER have been nearly as popular as it was when it released without that incredible score that came with it. Quite frankly, that score, that could be regarded as the best movie score of all time.
Every single piece of music in that movie is a masterpiece, no bland fillers where you just have the strings holding an harmonic pedal, just constant orchestral magic meticulously enriched with layers upon layers of details.
shootybaking he got an AFI’s award, yes, and was the first composer to get it And in case you were wondering, he got 5 oscars for: Fiddler on the Roof (arrangement score, not actual composition, a different category in 1972) Jaws (1976) Star Wars IV (1978) E.T. (1983) Schindler’s List (1994)
rey's theme is so beautiful, it gives of a sense of mystery and it's calling you towards an adventure not knowing what it leads to. everything about it is so magical
I can’t deny the fact that every time I hear Rey’s theme I get a bit starry eyed. Such a beautiful piece of art, that encapsulates everything we love about Star Wars. Thank you John Williams, the SW community is forever in your debt.
The films weren't great, but John Williams scores were epic and probably the best things about them. Rey's theme is so beautiful and can stand alone. Whatever the critics say about the film, the score is brilliant and John Williams's delivered. Maestro - much respect and love.
John Williams played this at the Hollywood Bowl in 2016. It took me a while to grow on the Force Awakens soundtrack, but truly Rey's theme is my favorite of this new trilogy.
I'm generally not really a fan of orchestral soundtracks but John Williams is the sole exception. His music can bring me to tears, it's just so damn good. He has such an understanding of what works, how, when, where and why, resulting in such expertly crafted pieces of music with so much character. I have nothing but endless respect for this man.
They REYdeemed her (oof) in IX imo. Offscreen and onscreen training and a reason for her immense force strength. I actually really like her arc in ROS, definitely worked out in the end.
@@RatchildUK yeah IX fixed everything. And the way her theme interweaves with Palpatine's theme brought unity to the whole story. When she is realizing Palpatine killed her parents, they play Palpatine's theme using Rey's orchestration. Only a genius like John Williams could pull off something like that.
This man is pure genius. Truly is. His scores are so perfectly done. This music with or without the film, literally makes you feel like 30-40 years have past in the Star Wars galaxy since ROTJ. It’s the best thing about TFA.
Yeah people can complain about Rey being a Mary Sue all they want but within the first 5 seconds of this song I just couldn't help but smile in glee at how awesome and nostalgic this song is. John Williams, you're still a genius.
yes! If you listen to John Williams he likes to go a bit faster in live performances. Check Imperial March different versions with Williams conducting, same as the main theme. He likes it. I've studied it :D
A lot of film scores performed live are faster; this is typically to give the music more energy and thus keep interest when there is no image to accompany the music
How humble at the end not taking the recognition he definitely deserves, but acknowledge that he couldn’t do it without the beautiful playmakers in the orchestra! More reasons to love this musical genius and legend! Beautiful Maestro Williams, beautiful!
I understand next to nothing about conducting but even then i can tell that this is masterfully, perfectly conducted, i mean, it has the exact same pacing (or tempo?) as the recorded version. I'm having goosebumps.
i noticed that , too . all ohter soundtracks i watch live performance for sounds a bit different , but i felt i was listening to the exact recorded theme .
Me too. That one time it was most prominently featured (Rey taking up that light saber, practicing some moves while Luke watches from a distance) gained SO much from just having her theme play midway.
Gareth Hatman Well, the force theme is used incredibly often in Star Wars films, but it still retains its beauty. I’d say that Rey’s theme doesn’t detract at all from the film.
For me for the long long time there were no Star Wars without John Williams music. Now it’s changed a bit there are very good pieces written by other composers But his nevertheless his music will always stand out and be unmatched
I love how, in the tradition of Sergei Rachmaninov and others, John Williams takes a left turn in the middle of the classic "Dies Irae" theme and makes it a whole new creation.
2:25 did I just hear a trumpet player fail a note and one second later come too early on the last chord of this sequence? In front of John F***ing Williams?
John WIlliams is a master and genius and has created music that will stand the test of time!!! George Lucas created the best film franchise of all time and the characters are beloved and known worldwide ( except China for some reason??? ) Together they created something iconic and WIlliams doesnt cease to keep amazing us
I've always loved the regal edge of this theme. It's what you'd expect to hear, if the arrival of a princess was being heralded. I guess that, technically, she IS one through her grandfather. (5/19/2022)
Rey's Theme is one of the most beautiful pieces he ever wrote for SW: fairy tale-ish, whimsical, heroic, epic and purposefull...
All Star Wars musics are beautiful
Could not agree more. My favorite sequel trilogy piece.
.......... NOT
Of course you are
Define whimsical
John Williams is the real "Chosen one". For his music will bring unity and peace throughout the Galaxy.
And his rightful successor Michael Giacchino

John Williams unites all Prequel, Original, and Sequel fans. He brings balance to the chaos that is the Star Wars fanbase. He is the Chosen One
John’s scores were sometimes the saving grace for some of the Star Wars movies for me. The scores he did for the franchise are just amazing.
Yes!
He is so awesome.... please stay healthy for episode 9 in 2019
I hope he lives for ever for all people in this world!!
Don’t worry, he’s immortal
He will live forever through his music.

I fell in love with Rey the moment I heard this while she slid down that sand dune in The Force Awakens.
Exactly the same here. That was it.

Absolutely agree
Same. The moment she did that and this theme started I thought: Yep, she's the best and I want to follow her journey all the way.

It is. Check out AFI's 100 Years of Film Scores:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AFI%27s_100_Years_of_Film_Scores
« I consider the success of Star Wars of 70% from the music » - nearly the words of George Lucas

Doesn't matter what you think about the Star Wars saga (original, sequel or prequel) one thing is for certain John Williams music is amazing
John Williams is the GOAT of film scoring
I dont use that term often but JW really is! No one can touch him.
I have to agree. Although I do think my favorite film score is Howard Shore's LOTR trilogy.
*Greatest Of All Time, for those wondering.
Jerry Goldsmith begs to differ
supersonicgirl the two can coexist ;) hard to decide which one is the best, they’re so perfect !
Rey’s Theme is iconic!
Even if she isn't, not roasting, just stating people agree her theme is great whereas herself it is beyond controversial.
@@lukeskywalker8543 She is.
Ironic*. Since it's a recycled harmony from a Harry Potter sounstrack. Just like Rey being a recycled Luke Skywalker 😉😉😉

This composition is like a call for adventure.
2:26 has anyone noticed that one single trumpet heavily misses the note ? xD
Where? Can’t really hear it
It kind of sounds like a clarinet I think.
Nah its just a chair getting shuffled on the ground.... XD
Yes... oh no 🤣
it's mean't to be there
You know I’ve you make to the big time when you have a song written after your character by the great John Williams!
No one does it like John Williams ❤️
All hail the maestro...our ears are not worthy!

Can I just add how clever this man is as the newer themes seamlessly blend in to the older themes.....just stunning WOW!!! God bless him X
1- force theme
2- across the stars
3- reys theme
My favorites
I HEAVILY AGREE WITH THIS
What I find funny is how my bias does not even disagree.
i kinda agree, but i really like the droid invasion theme or/and the clones/republic theme
Gotta put Duel of the Fates on there, one of his best choral works since Exusalte in Empire of the Sun
LITERAL CHILLS THIS SONG TOUCHES ME IN SOME WAY 🥺😭😭💞💞
Rey’s theme revealed her true heritage that she was a Palpatine through a running motif way back in the first movie with her. #MusicTheoryFTW
I will NEVER EVER PUT A DISLIKE ON THIS GENIOUS...SACRILEGE!!!
They must have been the rival composers that are bitter because John gets to do all the best movies.

They're a fantastic orchestra. Go see them sometime!
AND they had Spielberg on the stage...just to make you double SAD.

Oh my gosh! I would love to see this in person!
Doesn’t matter how bad the movies or characters are treated, the music is always top notch
Loved the theme in TROS
Rey's theme is utterly stunning. Mesmerising. Devastatingly, hauntingly beautiful.
So subtle how this theme relates to the Emperor theme. Absolutely genius!

imagine the honor of getting to play conducted by a literal master.....
Here's a bit of trivia for some of you, if you listen to Kylo's theme it is a mirror of Rey's which then takes hints from The Force theme
Music at its best - that will last forever ! Thanks !
Rey’s Theme is a track full of whimsical wonder and excitement that expresses a story of epic proportions. Which we all know the sequels don’t have.
