    I've restored a few bikes but haven't had one for a while. My neighbor had one of these in his back yard. After watching your videos I went down and offered him $200.
    Now I'm the proud owner of a 1983 Honda xl 600 👍😃

    I still have my 83 that I bought in 85. I've torn it entirely apart and rebuilt it many times over the years. Over all these years she's been more faithful to me than any other machine I've owned. Over the years I had the cylinder bored out to a 102.4mm bore and installed a Wiseco high compression kit, carburetor adjustable tuner kit install, Supertrapp tunable 4" aluminum exhaust. White Bros extended exhaust duration cam, titanium valve spring kit and installed hardened valve rocker faces with the upgrades I self performed.
    She's always fired up within a few kicks. That's with experience and knowing how to kick a high compression single cylinder big bore engine to life.
    She still thumps and pulls hard, will kick you unforgivably like an irritated mule if you don't understand her and will turn heads in shocked disbelief when passing the crotch rocket riders while they attempt to carve through the twisty mountain roads of Appalachian mountains.
    Honda made an incredible and pioneering machine in 1983 on so many levels which I know many folks recognized and wish Honda would bring back. I still do. It's current replacement from many years ago ,the overweight and over priced XR650L unfortunately is not a formidable improvement/replacement for XL600R series bikes for those of us that know these machines.

      JDonald McGII Yeah they were great machines I had an 86 for years and done everything to it like yours was able to pass sport bikes on the Dragon but after I got my XR650R street legal there was no comparison so I sold my 86 because compared to the 650 R it was under powered and overweight but this deal came around and I figured my son needs to start out like I did

      I have a 2007 XR650R I bought in great shape that was tagged in Minnesota. I bought and shipped it to my home in Greenville, SC. I'm tearing it down to get it cleaned up and get tagged for SC. It's a beast and in a different class altogether from the 1980's era XL600R. The XL600R has a much lower center of gravity due it having shorter suspension and having a low seat height which allowed it to be easily be flicked sideways to the point of nearly being able to grind the foot pegs in the asphalt for those that could press it's limits. I'm new to the Upstate SC region and have taken more casual rides on portions of the Dragon with my 114cu (1880cc)Harley Davidson Fat Boy. I'm hoping to get my XR650R finished soon to get it back on the street.

    Great video series on the XL600r I just got a deal on a 1983 with 7500 miles and I can’t wait to go riding with my wife. I had a 1975 XL250 and I loved it but I wanted a bike that would be more highway friendly so I decided on the 600 . Thank you again for the videos I am also a recording studio and live sound engineer so. I checked out your analog recording machine video. Rock on!

    @bigdmc1 I just got an 85 XL600R a little over a week ago and I just got it running today!!! I cleaned the carbs, changed oil n plugs and got a bit more to do. Unfortunately I still need help hah it seems to be spitting oil(and maybe new) oil from the tail pipe and now my carbs are dropping fuel from the air box when I’m kicking the bike( not sure if something I did or maybe now that he carbs are clean it’s overflowing). Anyway I’ve subscribed and hopefully I can get the beauty road worthy without a full engine overhaul hah but either way I’ll keep watching ur vids and freshening up this machine!

    All three videos watched, very impressive. What a great job you did on this Honda. I've got the older 1981 XL500s (PD01) which has a bit different fuel tank and its front fender lowered, and that large 23'' front wheel. This one has the 21'' front wheel? And I know this must sound like a cliche but your son has one awesome bike there, as well as one awesome dad.

    Just finished watching all three parts and I am totally impressed with what you did and how you did it all. Nice work! As someone who is in the process of obtaining a similar bike which in my opinion will need a similar restoration, I am curious how easy it was to get all the parts you needed. How much did you end up spending on the restoration, if you don't mind me asking?

      @bigdmc1  4 роки тому +3

Anyway, is this Breather Separator (Part # 17370-435-315) really important that I should have one installed?
