If found it’s tough building into the five fingers from regular shoes-safe and happy running🙏🏼

Most of us have spent most of our life in shoes that change the shape, balance and mobility of our feet. transitioning back to a more natural 'barefoot' style of moving/running using shoes like the Vibram FiveFingers is something we need to do as part of a re-sensitising exercise. By this I mean we must regain the sensitivity required to move 'barefoot' safely. We've somewhat lost the awareness of small changes in our body, designed to tell us when we're progressing too fast or we need to tweak what we're doing.
It took me over a year to feel able to run up to marathon distance (road or trail) in FiveFingers without any problem. The first 3 months I used them exclusively for training and short run shuttles on grass before progressing. Enjoy the process and feel (not think) your way. The V-Alpha are my go to model for Road, Trail and Gym.. but until you're 100% ready the Escalante Racer is a perfect stepping stone 👍🏽

Altra fan. I’m a hiker. I love the Superior but Lone Peak is my very close 2nd choice.

I love when I look for a specific video and find it. This and your previous review were exactly what I needed, great information. Thank you! By the way, you should try to look into the camera lens more instead of yourself in the screen ;)

Ty glad it was useful.. and yes, need to practice that, on a phone it's easy to not to, but will work at it, thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for the review. Subscribed. I have the Superior 4.0 and looking at the 4.5. Would you say the upper is more secure in the Superior 4.5? An issue i have with the upper on the 4.0 is that it allows my foot to move around too much on technical terrain. I like them a lot though, and get great heel lock after swapping the original laces with Lock Laces. I just wish the traction was as good as the LPs. I'd love to even see Vibram Megagrip on them one day but will take any improvement.
I like a lot about the LPs but i agree with you on them not being great in technical terrain. Like you, i came to Altra from wearing VFFs, Vivo, etc. and the LPs feel wobbly and unsafe to me when it comes to rocks, roots and anything uneven, so i also prefer the Superior's lower stack there. If you ever review the LP 5, i'd be curious to know if they're any different in this regard.
Have you tried the Saucony Mad River TR (version1)? They feel to me like they have some of what the LPs are missing regarding stability. They run surprisingly wide with a 4mm drop at 23/19mm and are customizable in some neat ways. Cheers!

honestly I never had the 4.0 but I did have the same problem when running on technical mountain trails in the lone peak 4.5, where my foot had a little too much space to move laterally, and the Superior 4.5 are a much more secure fit (without being tight)

@@maxdelacy3701 Thanks. I now have a pair of the 4.5. I like the secure fit. Much better for my feet than the LPs and the Superior 4.0.

Great review. What would you reccomend for rocky trails? Plus I have very wide feet. Thank you!

the lone peak is def a good option, plenty of width, and the fact you’ve got wide feet will negate the forefoot movement (slight slippage) I get when running technical rocky trail. You can go the 4.5 or the newer 5. pros & cons to both.. more longevity abs a little more structure in the 5, a little more sole flex in the 4.5. Both great shoes to run in (but you’re more likely to grab a bargain if you find somewhere running out their 4.5 stock ;-)

@@maxdelacy3701 Thanks Max. I'm kinda new to the Altra shoes, and I'm just loving it. I have lots of ankle problems, and compared to other brands I find myself very comfortable with them. Right now I have a pair of Lone Peak 4. I wanted to try the Superior, also because I love walking barefoot, but they seem a little too narrow for my huge feet LOL. I think I'm going to stick with the LP, maybe the 5.
