This is a very well and clearly explained video! Thank you so much. So much better than all the others I've come across thus far. I loved those explanations about v30 etc, not needing 512 card and putting all eggs in one basket, read and write considerations. Fab job! I'm a YT power consumer and commentator, keep going with the same quality and good luck.
This is the best video I've watched on this topic. You've explained it so clearly and thoroughly. I believe this could get even more views with a more inviting thumbnail. Please take this as a friendly suggestion.
Thank you so much for this video. I just purchased a P3 and I was curious on which SD card to use. By chance I got lucky and I picked up a Scan disc V30 rated micro SD card. Also love the thoroughness of your testing, I am a software test engineer so I love a good test setup.
This video was just what my nerd heart was looking for. My pocket 3 should be here this week and I already have a bunch of the sandisk cards. Thanks for putting in all the leg work, it’s much appreciated.
Thank you for great informative video. I have some doubts about the testing methods, but it's nearly impossible to create ideal testing environment for this case.
Based on this test, I would feel most confident with the Sandisk, Samsung or Lexar. The card should be formatted in ExFat, but most importantly, format it in the camera.
Great video! I was thinking to buy Lexar Professional Silver Plus microSDXC UHS-I V30 Memory Card 512Gb as the 1066x is currently out of stock, it has R200 and W150, is it okay?
I think the Evo Plus is more aimed at games/apps, where sequential write speed is not as important. As long as they are V30 rated, they should work, but the “PRO” series is better suited for recording 4K video.
Great video!! Very helpful! Unfortunately i lost 4hrs of videos data i was using samsung ultimate pro V30 card within one month! I can’t believe it could be corrupted that fast ! Anyway please let me know the best card reader i am using Anker cheapest card reader ! I guess i can blame on my card reader for losing my data
Sorry to hear that. I would have thought Anker would be decent quality. I am using a Lexar reader (amzn.to/3VhwxUY), which has worked just fine, but I have not tested others.
Hi, i recently bought osmo pocket 3 and am now looking for a SD card for it. I saw the Homan UHS-II SD Card V60 (128gb) was on sale and planning to get it. Will it be good enough for my osmo? I haven't seen many youtubers talking bout this brand except Sandisk, Lexar, Kingston etc. Please let me know! Thanks!
Thanks for the clarifying and detailed video 👏 Just a question for anyone who has it. Does the Kingston Canvas Go! Plus 256gb works good? even when it's not in the recommended list from DJI? Any experiences?
@@ttl_channel thanks, indeed i saw the test but i'm also trying to recollect experiences. My girlfriend bought the OP3 and at the end it was better to follow your recommendation of having more than a card. For what she will use it, she will be good with a couple of 128gb. Thanks!
Awesomeee video and does 4k 30fps and 4k 60fps recording have any change in quality of video or its just about the frames but no change in quality at all. Does 4k 30fps is enough for very good quality for youtube or should i record in 4k 60fps. Pls say. Thanks fr best video
Recording at 60fps does NOT increase image quality. There are 2 main reasons to shoot in 60fps: 1. To slow down in post-processing, to create a smoother, more cinematic look, or 2. many people consider that 60fps creates a more natural motion. For most UA-cam video, I would think that 30fps is the correct choice.
@@ttl_channel thanks fr reply and after seeing the full video, results and conclusion. I too want to go with SanDisk extreme card but can u pls say any heating issues with 4k 30fps with this SanDisk extreme card.
@@ttl_channel I have gone through your channel and I found lot of videos about pocket 3. I wil definitely watch them all to get more better idea about pocket 3.
Is it a good idea to buy two separate cards, for example, having one from x brand and lower storage, and one from y brand and bigger storage? i'm thinking of buying the MICRO SDXC 256GB LEXAR UHS-I U3 CL.10 V30 A1 RD-160MB 1066X and the MICROSD KINGSTON CANVAS GO PLUS 128GB CLASS10 UHS-I U3 V30 A2(170MB/S-90MB/S)? Thank u so much for the video great explanations.
I would definitely recommend multiple cards, instead of one large card (as explained in the video). I don’t see any issue with mixing sizes/ brands - just make sure to format them in the camera first.
Buy the Sandish Extreme 256gb. My settings are 4K/60 and the camera says it is very slow and after two minutes it stops recording. I bought that one thinking it was the best and it's failing me. What do you recommend me?
How did you measure the actual bit rates? Did the files differ in size? It doesnt make sense that the bitrate would differ so much, card-to-card. Seems like the camera would dictate the file size/bit rate, not the card.
Interesting baseline info with stationary video... but more interesting would be at least one real world test with a *panning camera* since that is what creates the most I/O stress. Even a camera simply moving forward (like walking or driving while filming forward) is less taxing than panning, because a significant portion of the screen is often still more or less stationary. Evaluating file sizes and overall VISUAL performance when panning would have been the icing on the cake here. I say this because for me, the Osmo Pocket 3 exhibits hideous visual frame jerking as I pan, and I haven’t isolated why yet.
SanDisk ExtremePlus does NOT work with Osmo pocket 3. I bought the identical card just ExtremePlus & it was not compatible. It was all that was available that day so I will return.
The one I tested is the Kingston Go Plus, but my personal preference would be SanDisk Extreme or Lexar Silver. I put links to all the cards in the video description, and if you follow it, you should be able to select whatever size you want.
Yes, up to 1TB should work fine, but frankly I would recommend 2 512GB cards, for the reasons I mention in the video (and it is less expensive). I have had good experience with Lexar, SanDisk and Samsung (see links below): Lexar: amzn.to/46Mjhw3 SanDisk: amzn.to/4dmJ9kj Samsung: amzn.to/3Al1qA2
I am curious why would SanDisk Extreme Pro with a V30 speed advertised the write speed of 140MB/s Write. Would that be a V90? The description reads SanDisk 256GB Extreme PRO® microSD™ UHS-I Card with Adapter C10, U3, V30, A2, 200MB/s Read 140MB/s Write SDSQXCD-256G-GN6MA
The “V” rating defines the guaranteed minimum sequential write speed (read as “never less than…”). It might be capable of peaking at 140, but it only guarantees to never go below 30.
Formatting ensures that the card has the correct file system and creates a basic folder structure for file storage. It’s always best to do this through the camera’s setup menu.
I think you should have used the same sized card for Samsung as well. It being the only 512gb card may have put it at a disadvantage when it comes to read/write speed, especially for prolonged recordings. Great video regardless. Thank you.
You are right, but I already owned the 512 and didn't want to have to buy too many, plus according to Samsung the 256 and 512 have identical read/write specs. Thanks for watching.
It all depends on the frame rate. If you use a "standard" frame rate of 30fps, the camera generates around 70-80 Mb (9-10MB) for each second of footage. If you record at high frame rates (e.g. 4K/120fps) this goes up to 130Mb (16.25MB) for each second of footage.
Don’t buy Delkin v90 - have two and both of them have “low speed” then camera goes dumb. Same problem with Sandisk v30 in 1080 30fps. Have somebody a real experience about working normally cards in 4k60fps with osmo3? Have a suspicion, this problem is because of camera
This camera sucks, I bought the same card and when I go to play back vid, it’s black. It wasn’t at first, then I exported it and it’s just audio… then I went to format SD card again, and it overheated. Can’t even format the SD card, it gets so hot I can smell burning plastic. This is why I hate buying new tech. DJI needs to make this right. I was only recording on 1080p 30 fps too and I have a shoot in 2 hours

What's the difference between sandisk extreme and sandisk extreme pro? Is there a real difference between the two for the insta360 x4?
In theory, the "Pro" should be a little faster, but you would only see a difference when transferring files off the card on a high-speed card reader.

Yes, up to 1TB should work fine, but frankly I would recommend 2 512GB cards, for the reasons I mention in the video (and it is less expensive). I have had good experience with Lexar, SanDisk and Samsung (see links below):
Lexar: amzn.to/46Mjhw3
