    I just joined and give you a BIG thumbs up. I had given up on using my quest 2 in DCS but after resetting the settings it's running really, really good now. Can't say WOW enough and the difference in as it does not buffer now :).
    I even ordered a Tobii Tracker 5, and it came today, said I had to let the under-screen sticker set 24 hours, so I tried my VR one more tries with your settings.
    Thanks again guy.
    I still plan to use the eye tracker some as the headset is hot after a while but it sure will be nice to have both options at hand.
    My rig is a P9 Win11 3080Ti, not sure of Ram atm, 32 or 64. Been flight Siming since CFS1 in 1998 and then to Fighter Ace, Ace's High, then War Thunder, and now Learning DCS.
    Setting up a sim chair, cockpit atm, and having more fun than ever. At 70 years old now can't do as much outside so having fun where I can. ha-ha Salute to u!!!!

    Another setting that makes a huge impact is the FoV Multiplier on Quest 3. I set FoV Multiplier to 0.8, 0,85 using the Oculus Tray Tool, and it improves performance by not rendering the pixels outside of what you can see through the lenses in the headset.

    • @Yorickkinda
      @Yorickkinda  8 місяців тому +1

      The OTT is a great tool and one I used a lot previously, however I didn’t for this as I found that the FoV multiplier wasn’t really providing me any additional benefits. However for PC’s with lesser GPU’s it’s 100% a great tool to use

    Thank you so much for this, pure gold. i did all the things with openxr and blablabla-tools, no good picture. but your guide is phenomenal, especially the stuff in the nvidia-control panel. i have a quest 3, a 7800x3d, 64gb ram and a 4090 and i‘ve set the ingame pd to 1.6 and it‘s fluid and not stuttering at all and i maxed out all textures and preload without any stutters. i also set dlss to ultra performance for helos and quality for planes. works like a charm. very nice, i was about to sell my quest 3 bc it didn‘t match my expectations. thanks. 👍🏻

      Great! I am glad it helped! The nvidia control panel stuff is really what makes a huge different, I think the pre rendered frames really helps to smooth the game out and remove that god awful ghosting and stuttering you get otherwise

  • @carlosarangosch

    I really suggest to increase the quest resolution instead increasing pixel density. PD is a supersampling process and it impacts performance really hard. There is a default instant action mission in Marianas for free flying de f-18 use that mission to benchmark. Use f2 and focus the view in the f16 park at the hangars and try to achieve stable 72 fps. Another tip is to lower LOD Switch factor to 0.4, this will affect distant detail of units (the carrier to) but that will give you massive performance. Another trick is to mix full quest resolution with 1.1 or 1.2 PD in-game and 0.4 LOD Switch factor but take into account the performance hit.

    I put small, round pieces of thick, double stick tape on a few of my most critical keys so I can feel their location when my hand is on the keyboard. Still, I often have to peek under the old goggles to take a look at what I am doing in the real world, but doing so really doesn't bother me, unless I'm on short final. For me, wearing an HMD is comfortingly reminiscent of wearing flying goggles. The difference is my flying goggles, now hanging on the wall, did not weigh nearly as much as the Pimax HMD.
    However, this is offset by the cost of owing and operating a single airplane, versus owning a fleet of sim airplanes that can be spawned anywhere on the planet. How else can one fly a Grumman Goose or Boeing 314 in the middle of the South Pacific and still be home for dinner? Best of all is not having to deal with ongoing maintenance and mountains of FAA regulation paperwork.
    As for cost, consider that my entire sim setup, with a top of the line gaming computer and three different sims, along with their fleets of aircraft cost less than a green-tagged, Hamilton Standard propeller. What seems insanely expensive in the technical world, is insanely dirt cheap by aircraft standards. Unless maybe you're putting in a King Gold Crown panel, in which case one has the worst dollar cost of both worlds. As for glass cockpits, don't get me started.

    What DCS version is this? I got a framed limiter in there, which I would highly recommend using. Your frames are jittery in my opinion, I usually try to 'flatline' the frame times to stabilize the system. Better a stable 75 FPS than a jittery 90 in my opinion. But then again, everyone has to find their sweet spot.

    My biggest issue with DLSS is that the text on the head down displays become very blurry. When using DLSS I can however turn the pixel density up to 1.9 and that allows me to read the text on the displays, but it's still more blurry than using TAA

      I know the issue, it’s a real pain in the arse - how to fix it, I am unsure - you tend to see what I can only describe as a black smudge in their general location. However there is a setting called ‘VR Zoom’ in the UI settings (you may need to hunt around) you can bind that to a button on your hotas and it’ll zoom similar to flat screen. It’s just super disconcerting in VR I find

    -I think you mean Mega Transfers not Hertz
    -most of the times DCS is saying "CPU Bound" in red that means you CPU can't keep up so you saying has enough headroom is a bit of an overstating.
    -Also having reduced settings all over the place is basically a mashup of random attempts to get FPS and loses any relevance as it is very hardware and perception dependent.

    • @Yorickkinda
      @Yorickkinda  8 місяців тому

      Technically correct as a hertz is a measure of frequency, but as 1Hz is the same as one second, both MT/s and MHz are the same:
      4800 MT/s = 4800 MHz

    • @zaelu

      @@Yorickkinda in fact your RAM works at 2400MHz and 4800MT/s because it's DDR.

    Overall good video mate, but its little misleading. Flying high above or taxing in empty/bare airfields are not good indication of performance in vr. You started to have spikes and dips as soon as you hit the forest level or smoke or little busy areas. Anyone can run 72fps with much lower spec when there is nothing impactful around, especially in Caucasus. Try the same settings above any city in Syria map or Marinaras or even dense forest/factory areas of Caucasus map and I guarantee you wont even hit a stable 60, maybe 65. And thats the problem, when you are running anything below 72, anything "unstable" then you see stutters and everything looks shit even if your fps is 68 or 70, it doesnt matter.
    So Im sorry, no hate, I know you try to be helpful, but this is not a great guide mate. For example; you have to get rid of forest and structure details to zero, thats 10-15 fps right there. Also turn off cockpit illumination, thats another 2-3 fps and that setting does literally nothing. Ground shadows default to flat can give you up to 5fps especially in dense city areas. AND THE BIGGEST THING YOU CAN DO IS: fix the fps, I mean literally, fix it to a certain number, my prefered is 45fp, or you can do 60 if you lower more stuff. Use oculus dev tool to fix the fps to half with ASW disabled. This is the best thing you can do to get a "smooth" experience. Im sorry but what you have is not stable, I know its not because we have the exact same setup and settings lol. Anyway, again, no hate my dude, just some clarification...

    DCS vr for me is unusable as far as dogfighting is concerned. I can get the cockpit to look great, but anything beyond my wingtips is a blurry, shimmering, semi-transparent mess. I can't distinguish any aircraft type until they are very close, like 300 meters/yards away. At 3/4 of a mile (1.2km) an aircraft appears as a perfect little black square!? I can get 45-90 fps, 5-10ms frametimes, but nothing so far makes any difference to the quality of other aircraft appearance. I've spent more than 30 hours trying different settings and guides over the past 6 months.
