Shifu Lau, can i koe how long can tis cucumber salad be kept in d fridge? Thank you.
I am a vegetarian.....what do I replace oyester sauce with?
@@komalaraghu9049 they make an oyster sauce dupe with mushrooms. It’s really good.
*RANDY* - would you please consider making a compilation video of your Dad's guidance on how to pick the best vegetables? He has SOOO much knowledge and having it all in one video, perhaps segmented by vegetable, would be brilliant!!
Great idea
fantastic idea, that cucumber looks like it would taste much better than the stuff i get in my supermarket
What do we do with the garlic? 😂
@@deineomma123but does it taste better than Korean cucumber?
The playlists on his channel are sectioned by recipes like: cook like a chef, cantonese recipes, soups, vegetables, pork, chicken, knife skills and others. It’s very practical. I’m a huge fan of this channel, specially coming back from Beijing where I lived for a year. I love this channel ❤!
I love how authentic this channel is. It's not just about aesthetics. Very refreshing to not see any stylised cookware
Authentic... Right... It gave me the exact opposite feeling.
@@hfyaer The opposite?! You dont think the family is authentic?! Or what gave you those feelings?! Strange
EXACTLY!!! love this channel. DEVOURED the egg and tomato recipe just last week.
YES. It is lovely to see REALNESS.
I like how the reasons for all the different steps and ingredients are explained, like how vinegar retains the crunchiness.
I miss having my parents around. It's delightful watching your family interact. Your parents complement each other so perfectly.
Honestly, smashed cucumber salad has been my favorite for years. It's absolutely delicious, and there are endless variations. Thank you, Daddy Lau!
The garlic peeling trick alone made my day !
I love how your father gives a explanation as to why he does things, thanks❤❤❤
The Szechuan version of this dish is literally one of my favorite dishes in all of Asian cuisines. Pair it with some Dan Dan Noodles and whoa!!!
A tip from my mother to pick fresh cucumbers. Pinch the end of the cucumber attached to the vine. This is the first location that go soft after it has been picked. Avoid the squishy ones and you should be good
Nice
I made this today and literally ate the whole thing myself in one day! It is SOOOOO good! I will be making this again. Thank you for sharing this delicious recipe, Lau family :)
Did you have to alter anything or did you follow the recipe 1:1?
It's all about MODERATION 🙆
@@chicanoonthego is that a thing? LOL
@@marchfifth1754 made it exactly as was shown. Cilantro and all :)
@@KiaGreenEyes Awesome, I am going to make this after my fast along with his Bok Choy soup.
I'm impressed with this channel. A very good way for non Chinese to learn about authentic Chinese food cooking. Good job 👍
The family is growing. I see 2 cutie pies. Yah!❤❤ thanks for sharing the recipe. Will be trying out the recipe tomorrow night. Need to buy the ingredients first.😊😊
Looks! Delicious. Thank you & your Family for Sharing. Enjoy!! 😊🤗
I made this salad today and it taste amazing! The sauce is fantastic, I will be making many times for my family.
I’ve made a simpler version of this in the past with just cucumber. I’ll be making this version from now on! Thanks to you and your Dad!
Looks delicious. I must try it. Love the recipes and tips
As usual, Daddy Lau's recipe is full of many professional techniques, such as how to mash and mince garlic. Who knew a cucumber salad is so complex. I will definitely give this one a try. Thank you.
You have a beautiful family, may God shower His blessings on all of you and thank you for sharing!
Been buying and eating cucumbers my whole life. Just learned how to pick a nice cucumber from papa Lau. Thank you soooo much!❤
Daddy Lau you are amazing with the videos of your recipes and your expertise in cooking really shows. Randy you also do a great job contributing to narrating and translating information. Always enjoy watching and learning new Asian recipes
I just made this right after watching it. Such simple ingredients you always have in your fridge. Plus this recipe makes such a good salad!!! This is going to be my to go appetizer to impress from now on!
so much skill, it's a pleasure to watch this - and pick up the tips!
Definitely gonna try this recipe
Thank you for this. Cucumber salad is not something most people think of bringing to a BBQ or to a party when asked to 'bring a dish'. I reckon if I brought this to a summer pool party it would go down a treat, especially with roast chicken leftovers, baby potatoes and that sort of thing. Thanks so much for sharing this recipe with us as it's cheap, quick and easy to make and goes with so many other side dishes. Even scrambled eggs and rice I'd imagine. 😋
Be quiet! You're making me hungry.😋
@@donotneed2250 Hahaha! 😄 Your comment is what I feel like screaming at my screen at 11pm, every time I foolishly topple into a culinary rabbit hole on UA-cam. So many things I've never heard of, never tried to cook, never even tasted. I wish an AUTHENTIC regional Chinese restaurant would open somewhere near me so I could try PROPER Chinese food instead of Westernised takeaway junk. YUM YUM YUM!!😋
@@ciganyweaverandherperiwink6293, have you seen Maangchi's videos? She's from South Korea and has easy to follow recipes. Watching her videos I've also learned the proper names and ingredients of my favorite foods I ate while stationed there between 1976 and 1980 twice.
@@donotneed2250 Oh yes! Maangchi is the OG of Korean cooking on YT, she was the 'gateway' channel for me. I love Helen's channel 'Modern Pepper' too. I cook mostly Korean and Japanese food at home but I'm open to trying more Chinese cooking as you see Chinese influence everywhere. I'm planning a trip to Ishigaki later this year...so long as China leave Taiwan alone for the foreseeable future (Ishigaki is part of the Okinawan islands but is geographically far closer to Taiwan than it is to the main body of Japan). What a turbulent time, we had it so good before the woke madness, the Big Tech/AI landscape and of course, Covid and didn't realise it. Travelling is so precious to me, here's hoping. Hope the rest of the decade is a good one for you too with much adventure and security in equal proportion. 😄🤝🗺🛫🍜💖
@@ciganyweaverandherperiwink6293, good going on your future trip! I'll be glad when I'm able to make a visit to South Korea to see my son who I found out about last year I had. He was born after my last tour there and I never knew about it...
Made this a couple of times now and everyone loves it ! 👍
Thank you Uncle for being so informative! Love this dish!
Love smashed cucumbers salad, definitely top two salads in my book. The other is hot and sour cabbage, a recipe I wished I had learned from the chef where I used to be a hostess. I am going to try Daddy Lau’s version for sure.
I love this recipe and your family is adorable. Seeing your dad with the kids makes me miss my grandfather. Peace and blessings to you all. 💗
Thank You ! ! One of my favorite Cantonese dishes . and so wonderfully explained . Nice to hear Cantonese spoken . After living and working in HKG and China for more than 35 years , I miss it greatly . One of the top cuisines in the world for sure . Thank You, Lo Ban Lau !
I am so glad I encountered Daddy and your wonderful videos online. I can watch them for hours. I learn so much.
Watching cooking for other cultures is incredibly facinating, this looks absolutely incredible!
Dad is such a good teacher. You’re family is lovely. Ty.
This was an excellent video. Please tell your father I appreciated listening to his vast knowledge. I look forward to learning more from him.
I love the way your Dad explains everything 😊 but hang on I haven’t watched the channel for a while, the last time there was just one baby….you guys have been busy! 😂
Looks absolutely delicious ! Will give this a try this weekend. Grandma from Texas
I love this channel so much!
Your precious family is expanding beautifully - with so much pure and deep love coupled with good upbringing and education, they're on the right path to contributing responsibly well to society!! Bless you ALL!
delicious! i love how easy going your dad is and how much good instruction and information is shared. I learned so much! thank you!
I'm in love with this uncle cooking channel. Gotta inmortalize recipes while we can! Thank you Randy.
Randy is a viewer, I don’t know the chef
I really liked how your dad showed his techniques for prepping. My grandmother cooked for a living and started teaching my siblings and I how to cook when we were in elementary school. While stationed in South Korea twice I'd eat in local restaurants where I could sit and watch the cooks' techniques. Sometimes my wife will watch me prepare food and ask where did I learn how to do certain things. Between my grandmother, friends on active duty who were cooks, watching cooks in South Korea and cooking shows that aren't competition shows I can come up with something to eat that might surprise whomever I'm cooking for and sometimes myself.
I just wanted to mention that I LOVE daddy Lau's flute playing 😍 ... the cucumber salad is good too 😉
I was looking for a recipe for teuk prahok and am so happy to have come across your channel. Beautiful video and beautiful and soothing narration! Great work!
Thank you for this recipe,😊 i always learn something new from all of your recipes,❤
A dish I always wanted to try to make. Thanks a bunch!
The best 😊. Thank your dad for all the wonderful cooking tip. ❤❤❤
I made this salad and it was delicious. It was also tasty the next day, nicely marinated. I actually put it on a bed of lettuce and tomato and it makes a really nice tossed salad. Great recipe, thanks Mr. Lau!
I'm not a big fan of cucumbers but I just tried this and it tasted super delicious. Thank you for the recipe!
It’s so simple but so delicious! Love it!!
I just made this, sooo good! Thank you for sharing this recipe!
What a joyfull, cherfull family you have!! I remember I found coincidentally your vids sligthly two years ago, and I forgot the topic but remained admired of your dad...didnt know he's an old chef. Cheers!
Oh yum! Going to make tomorrow for lunch and sit on my apartment patio in Arizona and enjoy it with a large iced tea. Perfection! 😋 Subbed too.
I always made a Thai cucumber salad before. Gonna try out this one too 😊
Awesome recipes! I love listening the Cantonese speaking... my grandfather was originally from that area ❤️
Thank you so much Karina! Sending much love
I just made this recipe 'cause I was absolutely craving it after watching this. It was so good. And I love how I can adjust the flavor of the sauce. Very good and very refreshing thank you so much, Lau Family.
Just made this, thanks for the amazing recipe! 100/ 10 must try
Love your Dad and all his recipes. What a wonderful man.
Your dad is so sweet and passionate about cooking. He must also be a good father. Wishing him well!
I watch a lot of food videos, but never got chance (or ingredients 😅) to make anything. BUT.. I made this smashed cucumber salad last week (it was delish!) and I’m just going to make it again now. Somehow, I had all ingredients at home this time 🎉 I know now it will be one of my favourite salads on its own or as a side dish for any larger meal. Thank you!!!
Yep. Making this for sure. Thank you!
Love this. I could eat this as a meal. Would like Daddy Lau's recommendation on cooking a bunch of Chinese chives besides stir frying with sauce. Thank you.
Got to admit your dad is so expert at these dishes.
I really love your videos! I so wish I had thought to capture my parents more often, especially cooking, so I appreciate learning from your dad. And I got a wonderful heart skip when he called out Hong Doy and Mui Mui as my father was called Hong Doy in his youth and I was Mui Mui. ❤️❤️
What an excellent cuke recipe. Made it last night. It will be on the table often.
Oh that looks delicious Tell Dad
Thanks for sharing 🙏❤️ 😋🍽️
Daddy Lau is like Santa for Chinese cooking - I'm making this for dinner with your beef and black pepper 😋
Keep sharing your wonderful knowledge! ✨️
Thank you. I have been craving this in the past few days ❤️
What a cute family! The kids are adorable! Thanks for the video
I'll have to try this. I love cucumbers, but never considered smashing them before slicing them. Very clear walkthrough.
Thank you so much for this video. I'm excited to try it!
I've been a long time viewer of this channel. This is the first recipe I've actually tried and it's delicious. Can't wait to try more.
My wife and I made this as a meal prep for the next couple days. After we finished we tasted it to try and ended up eating the whole thing. Oops.
I’ve made this using other recipes but this one is the best I’ve had.
Looks delicious,I shall make it soon!! ty!!! love your channel🥰
You have beautiful family 👪 I love this recipe so much..thank you for sharing 😋much love and happiness 😊
That Garlic section is life changing! Masterclass!
One of my favorite salads!!
I’m going to make for my family now! Thanks for sharing ❤
Omg that was the cutest thing at the end. ❤
I think this sauce would also be good on a cold eggplant appetizer, or as a hot pot dipping sauce...it's delicious!! Thank you for sharing the tips and tricks too.
made a small batch immediately after seeing this video and it's a major hit!
realised about halfway through that I didn't have any oyster sauce so i subbed in a tiny bit of fish broth
will definitely be making more of this!!
This sauce and salad are amazing ❤
thanks once again for helping this abc from australia out!
Awesome time to spend with your family
I love how you considered some people could be lazy enough to read the translation xd, so you read it for them
Dazzling on approach and landing indeed Grandpa Lau.

using the cleaver to make garlic paste looks like it takes a lot of practice. that's like a top secret technique there, I can't wait to try it
At 6:00 this man just solved a problem I've been having since I started cooking. Thank you so much.
You guys are great teachers, good stuff here
