My "goto" for garage doors or power gates is the Fortrezz Mimolite z-wave switches. If you remove the jumper before they are first paired they act as momentary switches so you can just add them in parallel to any door switches you have. (And I really prefer z-wave to help keep the WiFi spectrum uncluttered.)

That MQTT retain for commands = BAD, MQTT retain for status = GOOD (or at least OK) is a great way to remember when retain should be used.

Just did this today using a remote and a buck converter to keep 3.3V instead of a battery. For novice users the Shelly firmware works great in HA with a cover template. No need to get all tasmota + Mqtt it’s a lotta work for the same function.

I had issues with the stock firmware and such myself and prefer the ease of use with Tasmota over it. Plus you get the BLE stuff. I do applaud them for being open out of the box but I like to take it a bit further to unlock the power of things.

I haven't seen a single video on UA-cam on adding custom sounds to notifications, I have stumbled onto how to do it and thought I'd suggest that you make a video on it. I have notifications for every single external door in my house and both garages, but wow, having to always look at the phone since it's the same sound effect for all is very annoying. In the notification automation, under the "Data" field, simply add "sound: US-EN-Alexa-Patio-Door-Opened.wav" (without the quotes), and do the rest in the app config on your mobile device. You can also add your own from downloaded wav files, or even record your own. Perhaps everyone already knows about this and I just figured it out and am behind, but seems like there's got to be other that want this.

Great video - Two questions... 1) I assume the going the Plus router is better over the OG version? 2) Can the Shelly 1 Plus connect to multiple BT devices and broadcast the values via MQTT, along with the sensor and switch state built in? A little background - I am hoping to consolidate using the Shelly Plus1 my current setup which is garage and freezer temp monitors on one Tasmota NodeMCU and a garage sensor/opener that controls two garage doors.

Thanks Travis! I don't have a Shelly Plus 1 but I was able to make use of the Tasmota commands you went through to modify one of those cheap 2ch relays(LC-Relay-ESP01-2R-5V) that use an ESP01. I configured GPIO2 as a switch with a pull-up to 3.3v. Only issue is the device wouldn't boot up with GPIO2 pulled low by the reed contact being closed, so I used the 2nd relay on the board to break the connection to the reed, and added another rule to turn on the 2nd relay 10s after boot up. That worked but seems messy. Do you have a more elegant solution?

This might be more of an HA question. The HA history view, which gives great audit trail of when the door has been opened, for how long, etc is another great reason to implement this DIY Smart Garage Opener. What I'm wondering about is..., when either HA restarts, or when the Tasmota device restarts (output below), the history log get polluted with some nonsense. Thoughts..?

I am confused. Are you using a Shelly 1 Plus that has been flashed with Tasmoto? I did not hear you say anything about needing to do that first. I have not found any instructions on how to do that. I installed the device as you laid out in the wiring diagram and booted up the Shelly with the stock firmware. I can open and close the door by pressing the button on the built in web tool. I added the MQTT user, password, and server setting. thanks for tor the tutorial. Sadly I don't have a Tasmota set up. So I have to rely on the cloud. I'm using a shelly 1. Not a plus. The current app won't let me get into settings or application settings. It asks for a firmware update, but the app won't allow me to update the firmware. I tried updating shelly's firmware via the IP address. That failed to. So I decided to run an older version of the shelly cloud app. I also want to set up scenes so when the garage door is left open, it will send me a notification to my phone that the door is open. Though I'm not really understanding how the scenes in the shelly app work much. I had intially done this set up using The Hook Up's tutorial. But he didn't go much into details issues that might arise. I wish I could upgrade the firmware of the shelly 1. Maybe the Shelly 1 is too old and I need to buy a shelly 1 plus.

Yes, it is DC powered and the button is dry contact.

I would just do it like a reed sensor and snag the push out with a rule or decouple the button with setoption114

I live in an apartment building, so the building door is a couple stories away. Not really accessible. But I do have a wire that buzz’s when someone pushes a button at the building door. Can I work with that alone? I would love to share a sketch for my wiring. Is there a way I can send it over?

I'm having an odd issue. I'm using the Shelly1 (version 3) and successfully flashed tasmota on it. I entered the 4 settings and 1 rule into the console and enabled the rule. My issue is that when the reed sensor activates the switch, it closes the relay. Interestingly after getting MQTT setup the Tasmota add-on found my shelly1, but it only shows the relay state, it does not show the sensor. How can I decouple the switch state from controlling the relay?

The rule you entered is wrong or not turned on so it didn't decouple things.

@@digiblurDIY Very weird, I must have copied and pasted the rule for the sonoff switch. I did a reset to my configuration and it decoupled it correctly. I also entered SetOption114 1 this allowed the switch to be automatically detected by Home Assistant without any modifications to the yaml files. Thanks!

After your help from the last garage door video I needed to upgrade because the device burnt out again. I have everything up and running with one problem. When the door is open it shows the state as closed and when closed it shows as open. Is this a mismatched wire or something in the tasmomta console. Thank you.

It could be just based on how you wired and/or the reed switch. You can change the switchmode1 to 1 or 2 to invert it. Check to see which it is set to first.

Any chance you could link the video or website where you reconfigure the Xiaomi temperature sensor?

Yes it should be linked already. Look for the Pvvx link in the description.
