Hey guys! I used to have an 85 2.8 2wd extracab. My s10 blew up on the freeway with a severe rod knock, after it blew, I was four miles from where I was going. It looked like I was driving through a rain storm there was so much oil burning. Got to where I was headed four miles away. Waited 4 hours to see if would start and it did. Drove it five miles home. The rod went through the block and the oil filter. Next day I pulled it out. Three days later I had a 350 in and running. So much fun!
Those 2.8s are hard to kill, I have one in a 86 jeep Comanche.Thing is still running, on like 3 cylinders. I ran water in it,that froze and it still starts and runs.
Jeremy I think you're making a great character, you are almost to level 1 Cletus status. I really appreciate you having fun in your videos, along with some of the spicy food thing.
I most definitely serious like to have the engine for parts man that's what I'm talking about you can't kill a 2.8 and everyone talks bad about them or how crappy uhh huh well look at these 2 videos and say that again cause I have never ever had a issue with a 2.8 v6 with the carbureted version or the fuel injection 2.8 I have a 92 s10 2.8 5speed 337355 miles no problems at all and my 85 s10 I'm putting a 2.8 carbureted v6 in it with like 80 thousand miles could be 180 not sure only 5 digit odometer so but yeah I would take a 2.8 over anything than a 4.3
Agreed, but I think what people = crappy to is the fact that the power output was seriously weak. To bad GM didn't make them a 3.6 or even 3.8 from the jump so they could make better numbers than the Buick 3.8 and run close to the 4.3. Buuuut GM politics back then were totally dysfunctional and retarded so no surprise things were what they were.
To MM in the comments..Up here in New England we have an open wheel modified class using that little 2.8 they can make close to one horsepower per cubic inch bro.

A 2.8 Chevy V6 engine is one of the worst engines GM ever made they don't even make enough power to hurt itself I've had several and even had a competition with a dodge inline slant 6 and a honda 4 cylinder we held them wide open in park and the 2.8 never would blow and it was the only one that didn't blow and i held it to the floor for 10 mins atleast
My opinion they are one of the most reliable engines ever built and I'm a chevy guy 100% but most inline 6's are it's just hard to kill them as long as they have oil and water lol
I saw a GMC Typhoon about 20 years ago Quad City Car Show Rock Island Illinois yeah, that kind of blew my mind. The guy had a few of typhoon lovers pissed off at him because of the swap, but in reality it was a complete save, because the vehicle had, had a major fire and so he decided to rebuild it with a slight modification, you replace the stock turbo engine with a 454, told me a big block fit better in those, when they were four wheel drive, for whatever reason I can't remember. Had a heck of a steering shaft modification I remember. I've helped some buddies with a couple of small block swaps on those in my day. But that 454 typhoon still fresh in my memory, it was all black, what's a beautiful black leather and all of the typhoon ground effects, and the thing had so much torque it would spin all four wheels over and just hover in a circle, the guy had video of it it was pretty impressive.
That’s so crazy! My first vehicle had that 2.8 in it, 84 Jeep Cherokee Wagoneer, good stuff. It leaked oil like a sive and I must have ran it out of oil 4 or 5 times! But it was still running (like sh!t) when I got rid of it.

I had a 4.3 in my gmc jimmy before I put a small block in it and it had a bad headgasket and I got it HOT and it still lived those engines are very hard to kill like its big brother sbc
I am not surprised that Turd started again because it extremely hard to kill a loose worn out engine and until you piggyback main bearing or wedge a rod or piston so the engine it can’t turn over engine will still run as long as you can provide fuel of some form and it has spark with the least little bit of compression. I ran a Jeep with a 258 I6 without oil or coolant around the dirt track of death for over 20 miles and you could watch piston and rods rotate though all the holes in the block.
