  • I bought a new mud boat! The opportunity was presented to upgrade my existing 12 foot mud boat with a 6.5hp harbor freight predator motor and mud skipper kit. This upgrade to a 20hp Go-Devil with a Honda motor and 1436 flat bottom boat was a great step up from the old boat. This will open so many opportunities for us to hunt shallow water and make longer runs. Tune in to see the walk through and some video of it in action at the marsh!

    I remember back in 89 when these came to my area my dad was selling them and giving test ride. We all said when they came out with the 18hp they’ll never make a bigger one and now look we got 40hp.

      Mud Buddys go up to 50hp now! With turbos and other stuff they get 60+, it’s crazy! That’s a pretty cool story though, I’m sure it was a crazy thought back then to see mud motors being rolled out. Thanks for sharing and watching, I really appreciate it

      @@TooManyHobbies It was crazy back then because you could not go anywhere without being stopped and the whole boat ramp came to a standstill still when you were putting the boat in.

      @MattMorris481 😂😂 I can imagine! Were they initially put on flat bottom jon boats in your area or a different style?

      @@TooManyHobbies Yes flat bottom Jon boats, then a little later for some reason Carolina skiffs then it was either the late 90’s or early 2000’s Go-devil started making their own boats. I just sold my 16x60 with a 35 surface drive.

    I actually have a sick idea for a portable blind setup with a rig like that. The 1436 might be a little small for it but maybe not. Remove the benches. Rivet in a front and back deck with angle and plate/wood. Leave a cockpit area long enough to fit the TF Panel Blinds. Attach wire fence to the deck and around the gunnels. Permanently grass in the fencing but leave the cockpit area bare. Store the panel blinds on the front deck crossways. Once you get setup, setup the panel blinds in the cockpit area. Have the dog sit in the front or rear deck. Thing would be hidden well pretty much anywhere and wouldn't have to mess with the hassle of a true hard side.

      That’s not a bad idea at all, would be nice to use the panel blinds on it if possible. Also looking at a Pop Up Blind for it

      @@TooManyHobbies Nice. I would think shooting out of panel blinds or something similar would be easier than the Pop-Up Blind but I've never done it so who knows. Let us know what you go with!

    What size pods are on back of the boat. I have a 1436 put a 27 HP liquid cooled back water mud buddy on it sunk it first 2 min on the water. I think the pods you have would be perfect for mine just wondering the size

    • @TooManyHobbies
      @TooManyHobbies  3 місяці тому

      I don’t have exact dimensions, but they’re 12” long, 10-12” wide and about 6” tall. They absolutely help with the weight of the motor and the stability inside the boat, so if you’re having those kinds of problems I’d seriously look at the pods

    Where’d you get that mounting bracket for the motor handle? I have an old go devil that I put a 22hp predator on that I’m fixing up, I’ve been having to strap the motor handle down and it’s not the best way. Did you make that bracket or buy it somewhere?

      When I bought it from my buddy it was already on there, if you message me on Instagram I can send you some detailed pictures of it (IG toomanyhobbiesshow)

    What speed are you getting fully loaded with 2 people total and a dog?

    • @TooManyHobbies
      @TooManyHobbies  9 місяців тому +1

      Had it fully loaded with another guy and no dog and it was 18-19. That flat bottom just jumps up on plane regardless of the weight, it’s a fantastic little rig especially for what I’m doing with it

      @@TooManyHobbies think they are a must or could you run without them

    • @TooManyHobbies
      @TooManyHobbies  7 місяців тому

      @loganwebb461 it’s a small boat, so in my case I’m 250lbs and a 20hp motor, so I think in my case it is necessary. With a lighter person and lighter motor or a wider boat (1448), could probably run it without them just fine

  • @cougarhunter8304
    @cougarhunter8304 9 місяців тому

    Well do your self a favor based on experience get a 1448 WAY more stable and stick with the square bow over all there bigger than the mod v flat even tho they both are 1448 but with mod v that point takes a foot plus away from the overall interior space but if running a outboard then go with a true full mod v cut water better and higher top speed vs flat bottom square or mod v flat aka Coast Guard bow

    • @TooManyHobbies
      @TooManyHobbies  9 місяців тому

      The plan is to get a 1448 when I find one and swap the motor over. The 1436 is good for now, won’t make any real long runs with it, we mostly hunt big water with a different boat. But this will have its purpose and get used in the marshes along the lake
