My twin 14 year old sons got to meet the great Verne Lundquist yesterday at Onion Creek Golf Club. He was a complete gentleman just as he has always come across behind the microphone. Thanks Verne! 😊
Mr. Verne Lundquist made very good comments at the Winter Olympics along with Scott Hamilton. His credit and knowledge of sports allowed him to do a good job, I especially remember the comment when Timoty Goebel made the first jump on his long program and Scott he said it is a warm up and verne remarked him "what a warm up", fabulous my respects ..
Vern is a Giant along with some of the Other's who came before him with the likes of Gifford Skully Cosell Dandy Don & Others.. Michael's & Costa will be along beside them some day in the future, As true Giants of broadcasting.. You don't see Men like this anymore on TV that did it with Class & Dignity to make US feel Parr of the show part of the family..
Verne has joked about the one incredible event he was meant to broadcast, but missed: In 1979 Verne still did Cowboys radio play by play, but on 12/16/79 he was away on assignment. On last NFL Sunday, Washington played at Dallas, with winner being had #1 NFC seed. Cowboys had a Wild Card if lost, but due odd Tie-Break scenario, if Washington lost they'd fall from #1 seed to missing playoffs (5 teams made it then). It was 17-0 Wash, then 21-17 Dallas, and then 34-21 Wash, who had ball with 3:15 left. Crazily, Roger Staubach pulled game out, 35-34. Game made 1990s NFL Films "Greatest Games Ever Played" video, which only included maybe 12 games.
What people may not know about Verne is that when was working for ABC in the late 70's, he was the play by play announcer for their coverage of the old North American Soccer League along with doing Wide World of Sports.
Verne was the man. I grew up in DFW and he was OUR sports guy when I was little, at WFAA. Worst thing he ever did was going to CBS....because we got stuck with that chronic alcoholic d bag Dale Hansen. Thankfully he retired a few months ago. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
One could really nit-pick and say that Roger could have led Smith all the way across the endzone with that pass for an easier catch. Yes, it should have been an easy catch anyway, but it wasn't the greatest pass Staubach has ever thrown, and I love Roger.
YES SIR!
I miss Verne in the SEC
he is truly a legend

The GREATEST college football announcer of ALL TIME
loved his announcing in Happy Gilmore!
Verne has one of the greatest voices in sports broadcasting!
I sure do miss Verne calling games for my Tide. Always loved him and Gary together.
Roll Tide.
Thanks for posting this, I missed it when it originally aired.
Happy find!
We love you Uncle Verne, you are a staple of the sports I have watched.
Love you Verne
One of the greatest to ever do it. I miss his clarity, wit and joy of sports that we all enjoy.
Facts I wish he was a motivational speaker man
My childhood is his voice

Gosh Verne has such a good heart! I hope that one day I love whatever I do as much as he does!
The best of them all
MY GOODNESS! Verne you are the G.O.A.T. 😃
Also David Feherty imitating Verne’s laugh is comedy gold
I am so lucky that I grew up watching Verne Lundquist on Channel 8, calling Cowboys games on KRLD radio.
We both have something in common, how are you doing today my dear ?
I remember when he was here in Dallas. I was just small child, but his voice was unforgettable
A real pro and gentleman
Best to ever put on the headset.
What a legend I miss him
Well, Verne, America's uncle, you did it well.
No one will ever top him
John Peters no one they will come close but no one 💯
We love you Sir
He's the Santa Clause of Football

At least he acknowledged the fact that he “stole” the “yes sir” call lol

Skip's impression of Verne is absolutely spot on! 😂 I'm sure it's because he's spent so much time listening to him.
They should have had a segment about the Fog Bowl
THE 🐐

ABC used a lot of local talent who they thought had bright futures back in the day. Many flamed out, but Verne was the best of that bunch
Ian Eagle is my favorite but Verne is an OG
Verne Lundquist is one of the best play-by-play commentators in sports history.
Stopping at 8:30 coming back later
Super Bowl XIII: "Bless his heart he's got to be the sickest man in America."
When Jackie Smith dropped a pass from Roger Staubach in the end zone.
It was actually me who was the sickest, Jackie was probably the next sickest.
This is the greatest commentator in history, sorry Jr (Jim Ross) not even close
How did they not mention the fog bowl!

Can someone explain the steamboat reference to me though? That went over my head..
He lives in Steamboat Springs, CO.
How do ya do!
This documentary was a disappointment since it didnt mention his CBS career when he covered the NFL from 1983 to 1994
6:13. what is up with his beard?
David Kelly Films its David feherty look him up he’s a wacky guy
Ahava
IS NANCY DOING WELL OR SHE DIED
I googled and it shows they are still living in Colorado
Verne is biased. Best CFB finish will always be the Stanford Band play.
