It doesn’t get getting boring watching Tiger hit a golf ball. He made golf fun to watch
He sure did. I'm not even sure if his true impact on the game can be accurately measured. TV ratings, viewership and tournament prize dollars all skyrocketed because of him.
Golf always has had great galleries ,Hogen,Byron,Jack ,Arnold. Tiger was the best of his era, count yogi would have crushed Tiger.
@@kilroyescalante3173 Uh no. Wishful thinking.
💯💯💯
Nicklaus has more accolades, but nobody was more electric and fun to watch than Tiger Woods. Doubt I will ever see another in my lifetime.
At 72 now, and a follower of golf from five years old, I can think back and know how very lucky I’ve been to witness some of the best of golf, as well as commentary. Those folk such as I watched the competitive sportsmanship of Nicklaus, Palmer, and Player. Then were Greg Norman, VJ Singh, Faldo, Trevino..so many.
And then there was Tiger. From his initial win in 1997 of The Masters, to his 2019 victory of the same tournament, his presence in the game, his wins, his magician-like shots and his problems that encompassed so many fans, life has been gifted by what is all of the Golf Kingdom, the players, the crews, and those who talk us through each shot of every game. For four hours a day four days a week those enamoured by a game that grips us all allows us to dream that we might have found ourselves traversing the many fairways around the globe, or just breaking 100, 90, or even 80. We might even hear someone somewhere enjoy one of our shots, and say something such as........Are you kidding me?....such are the things that dreams are made of.
Merry Christmas.......stay safe.
WELL SAID...AMEN.
This was so beautiful to read
Tiger in 2000 wasn't just the peak of Tiger it was the peak of golf.
Peak of sport.

@@maxcaysey2844 His 2008 season is sooo underrated! The guy won 4 out of 6 and finished T-2 and 5th in the other 2 events. If not for his knee surgery, that season would have overtaken his 2000 for sure!
@@whyme007 I believe so too...
To all my fellow golfers... Tiger practiced 8 hours a day, 6 days a week, under the guidance of multiple coaches, nutritionists, and personal trainers to get to where he is today. He did this for years before hitting the tour. This game has been around 500 years and nobody has ever perfected it. So next time you break 90, pat yourself on the back 👋🏻👍🏻
Thanks noodles
I just broke 90 for the first time today 🤪
And that may be why his back got so torched. Ouch. That's discipline. So fun to see these putts. He just couldn't miss.
I break 90 regularly, it's 80 that is rare.
Breaking 90 is so easy
Tiger not wanting to make a bogey is the purest simplification of his brilliance - Under all the pressure and the spotlights, he just simply focused on one of the purest goals of golf, shared by all of us. no bogey no bogey no bogey.
uhhhhhhhhh pretty sure nobody wants to make a bogey.........
Right about no boogey being universal. Astute observation.
I played Pebble once and when I walked the 18 all I could think of was Tiger and this tournament. It was almost a spiritual moment for me. I made a 20 footer for par, the gallery that is always there went nuts and for one second, I felt like Tiger. I will never forget Tigers round here, unbelieable.
Stand in the rough and look up at the cliff...that will let you know how special he was
@@MarkSmithhhhthat shot is no joke. I went to the pro-am last year and saw that hole for the first time. And it made that shot even more unbelievable. 7_iron, 200 yds, uphill, blind view, and from rough, and over a tree😂 just mind blowing

@RCV Around the World every time I'm at that hole I aim for the left side rough for this reason 😂
To play Pebble and par the 18th? How cool was that? Congratulations.
I was 14 when this happened. My grandfather called me in the living room and said " sit and watch this, this kid is special " and I've been a fan of golf my whole life. This performance might be the most dominant in all of sports history.

A memory ingrained into your mind you will never forget. My mom doesn't golf, didn't watch golf, till Tiger started playing. She's only interested in watching the tournament if Tiger is playing, if not, she's not interested. I'm sure they are many other non-golf fans who watched golf just because of Tiger.

I'm a mom and when he won his 1st Masters I started playing golf. I'm 70 and still playing golf. I watch golf only when Tiger is playing still. Watched him in person many times. It's a feeling unlike anything else I've ever experienced. Wishing him speedy recovery. TIGER is the G.O.A.T.
This thread of comments made me tear up from happiness
gramps said the same thing during the 97 Masters. "This kid is playing a game that I dont remember seeing before" and he got to watch the careers of Niklaus, Palmer, Player, Watson, Ballesteros etc...
To me it wasn't that Tiger won by 15. It was that he was the only golfer under par. That is just incredible, and will most likely never be duplicated. This was before gigantic drivers and golf balls that flew 30 yards longer.
When Jack Nicklaus won a major at Pebble, he was the only one under par.
@@leverage2279 Not true. Jack won the 1972 US Open at Pebble Beach finishing the tournament at +2. I believe he won by 3.
Mark O’ Meara’s quote here is pure gold. “That kid is the greatest player I’ve ever seen, he’s the greatest player in the world”. He knew Tiger had that tournament before it even started. Awesome stuff.
Yep. He knew just from a couple practice rounds there was nobody on his level
Tiger Woods is arguably the greatest thing that's ever happened to golf. Growing up in the early 2000's, a lot of my relatives played golf and I heard his name a lot. Before long I found myself tuning in just to watch Tiger. All these years later and I don't play, but I am still an avid fan of the sport. I'll never forget, my High School graduation party was during the 3rd round, all my friends and family were out playing bbqing, drinking, playing yard games etc. and I was inside most of the time focused on the golf, atleast while Tiger was playing. It was well known how obsessed I was with Tiger growing up so everybody understood. He was my idol.
This guy captured something in us, all of those ridiculously great performances, and yet we wanted even more, yes this performance here at pebble may have been the apex, but it was a great ride, then Woods stumbled a bit and let us all know that yes he was human. I can also remember a PGA where Woods birdied the last four holes on a Sunday and still lost, I can remember the guy won one of these Us opens on a torn ACL, he was just unbelievable, the guy brought so many new fans to the sport as well, God bless Tiger Woods.
That shot of him looking up at the score at 29:03 is just incredible
I remember watching this as a kid. Ended up writing my senior paper in 2003 on why I thought Tiger Woods would go down as one of the most influential athletes ever. I stand by that opinion 20 years later!

I believe the true genius of Tiger was his ability to compartmentalize in his mind so easily throughout a round of golf. He was able to keep himself in the moment and in the task that was right in front of him. He would think “I’m hitting this shot.” He would never think “If I don’t make this shot I’m not going to win.” Or “If I miss this shot I’m going to make bogey.” It was just “I’m going to make this shot.” Yes his physical ability was above everyone else but his mind was astounding.

I am looking for videos that highlight Tiger's greatness. This is a wonderful one.
I think I've watched this video about 45 times now. And where that sounds like a joke, it's absolutely not. This is, in my opinion, the greatest display of skill in sports, OUT OF ANY SPORT, I have ever seen. Truly amazing.
@@Snikpoh1390 And I thought I was the the only one crazy enough to watch this vided more than 20 times :)
I followed Tiger all four days that week. What might not have come through on TV was how he was just intense on Thursday as he was with a 10+ shot lead on Sunday. Absolute killer focus like no other.
Don’t know if anyone else noticed but Ernie Els shot a 3 under par 68 on Saturday in the brutal conditions, an amazing round that was totally unnoticed due to the totally dominate performance by Tiger. I agree that it was the single best golf performance ever.
I watched this and you are right, Ernie played maybe his best golf, and nobody noticed.
I always say Ernie is one of the most underrated golfers of all time. If tiger hadn’t existed, his numbers would be unreal
I have just watched this AGAIN after 21 years and it still makes me emotional! I’ve always admired and loved Tiger since he came onto our tvs, I pray we get to see him play again.
You should watch it again after 23 years
There are no words to describe how happy I was to witness this magnificent performance live; I just want to thank Tiger for the umpteenth time for his unmatched brilliance.
I think that tranquility he felt on 18 was something no other golfer has ever achieved; satisfaction with your own game one can only dream of playing to their full potential
Called being "in the zone".
What's even crazier is tiger never felt he was good enough. He changed his swing like 5 more times trying to achieve truly biblical greatness. This is why chasing result based goals is a bad idea for most people. You think, once I break 80 I'll be happy. But that time comes, and now all you can think about is breaking par. It never ends. You have to learn to that happiness comes from inside.
I don't know how he could describe it as anything less than euphoria. But, only he knows, so if that's what he says I believe him. That moment must have felt so good, a feeling most people only get to feel once or twice in their life, if at all. Can you imagine it?

This swing..its just legendary. When he was young and had that flexibility it was just incredible.
What's more incredible is his ankle, knee, leading side, neck, back, and hip injuries, all being a result of swinging like he did....he might have been able to hit a ball well with that swing, but damn if it didn't cost him 5 years, and 6-8 majors.
@@wx811 I think he's lucky injuries didnt get him earlier......he practices more than most maybe excepting vijay singh.
W X uh no use it or lose it have you ever played sports
@@wx811 agree I do think tho A LOT of it had to do with his strength training...strength training is important and helpful for golf sure but guts nowadays have much more knowledge of how to do it properly incorporate flexibility, calisthenics, circuit training, gokf specific exercises (I don't 100% know this but I'd imagine that now that golf is treated more like a sport, golf's getting more legit trainers and exercise physiologists to it)...tiger just put in body builder type bulk, never listened to his body (for fuck sakes playing on a torn acl...sure you win another us open, but did winning that 1 us open possibly cost him 3 more?)...
All that plus his violent swing led to his injuries...I think if he had just swung away like he does in this video and didn't put so much bulk on he could have lasted longer
@@TheLocalLt I do agree with that, that swing was a gift and he needed to use it cause no matter what, one day it would be gone...father time is undefeated...same as GSP or Anderson Silvas injuries in MMA... what, are you gonna tell then not to fight the style they do?
No man, you have a gift use it, you'll be hurt but that's the sacrifice, they're fully aware that they'll end up hurting later in life as nearly all pro athletes will (seriously find me a top top top tier athlete in any sport INCLUDING Nascar that doesn't have at least 1 nagging injury...its part of what you give up for winning)...people don't get it if they don't play competitive sports...for these guys, they know they could end up with nagging injuries but it's WORTH it to them...you can call it stupid but, well, that's why they're champions, I highly doubt they'd go bsck and "play it safe"...if tiger was told "you can only win 1 major but you'll never get hurt if you go bsck in time" he wouldnt take that deal and neither would any other elite athlete..albeit tiger may have taken it further than most cause he would do dumb shit like play on a torn acl...but same concept....
Like I said earlier I don't even think it was the swing, it was his bulking up and complete lack of direction in how to properly weight train for a repetitive motion like the golf swing that hurt him...he could have actually prolonged his swing with the right training
This was the greatest golf display in the history of golf!
Tiger will forever be the GOAT. IDC about whatever mistakes he made. He is a human like all of us and we all have made them. To come back after struggles of life to be a champion again shows me he is still the same Tiger and I will always admire him as a golfer and a human being.

This why I put Tiger ahead of Jack. Jack at his best hit really high quality, really solid golf shots consistently when it mattered. But he didn’t ever have the creativity, the imagination or the pure artistry Tiger had at his best on the Golf Course, so for that reason for me Tiger is the greatest player of all time.
Tiger was Jack mixed with Seve's imagination and Phil's wedge game
You have a point. It all depends upon what you value as a fan. If you want to argue that peak Tiger > peak Jack, I get it. I also see that, for example, Jack had 55 top-fives in majors, Tiger 33. For Jack, that's two top-fives per year for 27 years 1960-86, with 18 wins included. Jack was as steady a golfer as he was a man.

Exactly. Been watching this guy for 30 years now. Opinions vary, but when the stars align, Tiger finds a way to capture lightning in a bottle again and again. What a rollercoaster to watch.
Common do you really not see it. Tiger stands for many things that the average person is challenged with. He challenges colour, race, generational gaps, nostalgia etc ..... if he won another 5 majors there are stupid people who'd say, "well the equipment is better" not realizing the difficulty of the course, the length and the level of skill and professionalism. Especially in light of the fact many many people of substance in the golf world, dare I say, that are more knowledgeable and more informed than you regarding golf, would agree with Daniel Barwatt. Please find some manners. In point of fact, Tiger has proven Jack to be the GOAT by his inability to match his majors output. If Tiger was the greatest, why, he should have surpassed Jack easily. But he hasn't, and won't. Tiger DID win on tour 82 times to Jacks mere 73. Not only did Nicklaus win the most majors, but he came in 2nd the most ever (19 times). He finished in the top 5 56 times!!! So, I would say, at the very least an argument CAN be made for Nicklaus to be the greatest golfer who ever lived.Heck, in the 70s, he played 40 majors...ONLY MISSED ONE CUT! He finished in the top 5 more times than ANY OTHER GOLFER HAS FINISHED IN THE TOP 10. I could go on and on of his records. They fill a page. When Tiger was hot, no one in his peer group could beat him. He was hot a lot. But compared to a guy that won Majors until he was 46? Sheesh. Tiger is 44. I think it is safe to say , as far as setting any other records or winning majors...those days are over. Yes, Tiger won by considerable margins, yes, he had lowest total strokes and stroke avg . So he has his own set of records. But, whenever you say "greatest" you gotta look at the entire body of work. Tiger's body of work is impressive. Jack Nicklaus' is bigger, better and more impressive. Remarkable. Probably will never see something like that again in my lifetime. I've seen great players win majors, but not like this. Again, Remarkable!
When tiger came onto the scene in the mid 90’s, my interest in golf immensely increased due to this mans creativity and guts. He took this game to a place that no one can and most likely will never take it. Like MJ did for basketball. The excitement was electric. Those days in sports were just beyond explanation…….
One of the best videos i've ever seen of any category!
Johnny Miller has never been wrong. I swear this guy is prophetic.
Johnny was the absolute best. Miss him. No wonder Tiger wanted to get him to be his coach.
Johnny Miller shot the greatest round of golf in history. His 63 at Oakmont, in the final round, to come from way behind, under horrible conditions is still the landmark round in US Open history.
@@Purplexity-ww8nb Never heard Johnny speak of this round before.

A 7 iron from the rough, uphill 202 with 2000 golf technology...imagine what he could have done with today's clubs. The best ever.
his 7 iron today isn't much different
Nate, there’s less than 1% difference in the distance or performance from the clubs from then to today’s. But I agree, Tiger is the best ever.
To be honest if you just come in steep enough, and knock it around 95 percent effort, the shot isn't that hard. 99 percent of people will, 1. Pitch out 2. Come in too shallow and knock it 20 yards.
Out of rough it's not strength, it's decreasing the grass between club and ball, which means steep. That's why we take less club in these situations, because not only do you deloft the club, but the grass between club and ball creates less backspin.
It's just experience, and reading lies, situations, and conditions is critical to hitting a good shot.
@@chrisredig1381 Throwback equip for throwback Tiger...sounds like a trip down "I'm getting old" street lol
The ball is the thing that has truly changed
Its been an honor to grow up as a golfer in the era of Tiger. He is an icon and a legend.
Never played a round of golf in my life, but I am a fan of Tiger’s. Used to watch ABC’s golf coverage just for the background music. May he be recovered.
Watching this at age 52 and having never played golf before, I now want to learn how to play real bad,
Ravi Peiris M.D.
Tiger is a once in a multi generational talent... People will come and play well win but no one will be Tiger!!!
Never ever again!
The roar of the crowd on the walk to the final hole gave me the chills!!
I didn't think I would watch this since I am not a golf fan, but I made it to the end with no problems. The course was beautiful and Tiger did an awesome job. They must have told Steve he couldn't drink until after the interview was over.
I was 10 years old working with my grandpa at his driving range/mini-golf filling baskets watching this on a 13" TV what I do to have that time with him again
i make sure to watch this once a week just to stay motvated to push forward. I played my best round last week.
Tiger is and will stay the Goat.
you know it seems for like most sports there is always a goat arguement. Lebron vs Mj or Messi vs Ronaldo but for golf its always Tiger for everyone
The cow
You mean like the farm animal is that the meaning
Jack
@@Creefer23 no,not for "everyone" just his groupies. Jack is ,BY FAR, the GOAT. Look him up since you arent old enough to even understand.
My Biggest takeaway - Steve Williams is now top of the "people I'd love to have a beer with" list. What a story teller.
Man I’ve watched this 6 times in the past month. It’s so addicting
I played pebble beach once. The season was over, the grass mowed short last time before winter, and i enjoyed the memories for every hole finally breaking 360...
Grew up with Payne. And even after he achieved fame, when i saw him a few times, he was so damn nice. That tribute really got me.
18:08, absolutely hilarious face on the caddy when he's like "no more balls, cant tell him"
It looks like he was in the middle of blowing a shit gasket.
@@definitiveenergy1 lmao exactly
@@definitiveenergy1 I was blowing a shit gasket listening to the story and imagining I was him.
I'd love to hear what Tiger now thinks about this.
I was glued to the TV that tournament; just amazed at his performance.
This video is sweet! The USGA and Tiger's continued dominance have inspired us to create our own UA-cam channel where we guide beginning and average golfers to less tension and anxiety, and more comfort and control on the golf course!
Knocking in that long par putt during the 4th round is a triumph of the human spirit. Pure determination and so inspiring
This is a well put together video. Thank you.
2011 US Open Rory was out there looking like a young Tiger. I was there working the event and it wasn’t even a contest. He broke so many records, he was the 5th ever player to shoot under par in all 4 rounds, if i’m not mistaken someone else did the same that year to be the 6th but Rory was in a different level
Quickest to double digit under par... he was like 11 under after 26 holes, it was insanity i really thought he would be the next tiger after his 2011-12 seasons
The one and only GOAT. Just doing GOAT things 🙌
Sinking birdies and banging dirties
5:55 Who better than Mark O' to give it to you straight....He played at the intersection between Jack and Tiger.
10:13 That's my favorite quote, "...rough's getting a little longer", yes, as if the grass grew a noticeable amount in the 16 hours that passed from the previous round.
Lol!!!!! Exactly
They start playing it the week before. They typically will not mow the rough for a few days before and during the tournament. In the right conditions, if it's growing even a quarter inch a day, that's half an inch every 2 days.
For a professional, they will notice this.
"Long hitters have never prospered at the US Open."

TW did it 20 years earlier. Jack did it 30 before that....LMAO
@@ScratchArkkitehti while for their time they hit it long, TW and Jack do not come close to DeChambeau. This is coming from someone who idolizes Jack and loves TW.

Don’t think that 15 stroke win margin will ever be broken!
Folks, that's not the same beer...Steve's sips are what we call "Chugging" and every time you see him, that's just a new beer...He's a Kiwi...
And now its time for "True Analytics with Jake Wylde.". Thanks for pointing that out!
HE (Tiger Woods) will go down as the greatest golfer ever especially after returning from major injuries and winning the Masters and captaining the US team to victory in 2019.
Only one problem, Jack is the GOAT....more majors
May be the best documentary I've ever seen
This was the greatest U.S. Open by a single player ever. The golf that was played and the dominance it was played in will never be replicated. It really was, “Perfection at Pebble”.
