I am removing my steering column thank you for the information, but I noticed there is some sort of linkage in the engine compartment that is attached to the steering column so when I’m pulling the steering column out, I am having there’s just something attached to it. It’s like it looks like some sort of linkage is that the steering I mean, the transmission linkage.

So you have a column shift car, yeah just pry the linkage out of the column, it’s pushed into a plastic bushing there at the bottom of the column, I just pried mine off. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Was there a rubber bushing that went between the bolts in the engine compartment

You mean the rag joint/steering coupler or the gasket between the fire wall? Because if so then yes there is a rag joint which I didn’t have to replace because it was still good. There is also a gasket between the fire wall but I just reused my old one since it was in good shape as well. If this isn’t what you’re talking about then just clarify alittle more and I’ll be glad to help you.

Thank you I pulled out the steering column last night :) but because the rag ? Joint was ripped so it’s still attached to the steering box

@@richardfiorentino3951 you’re welcome, glad you got it out. Yeah they’re just rubber and they deteriorate over time. There’s just one bolt that goes in through the coupler, remove it and it’ll slide off the steering gear box. If it’s never been changed before then you’ll have to grind the rivets out on the metal pieces that sandwich it together as the factory used rivets but you may get lucky and someone has changed it before so it had bolts now.
      Good luck on your install.

Hey man I just got a new steering wheel and I was going to install it but when I pulled the old wheel the shaft just flops around. No bearing lol the spring was kinda holding everything snug. I got a grant style 😑. It was cheap, anyway. Have you ever replaced that upper steering column bearing?

Very nice bud, no that’s something I’ve never had to do, and I’m not exactly sure how they’re in there, wether they’re pressed on or there’s just a clip that holds them in. Wish I could be more help, good luck on it, hope it goes well.

@@FastFords289 no worries. It seems to be press fit. But we know a hammer with a socket and some heat you can make any bearing fit lol

@@FastFords289 exactly. I just posted a video showing what was going on. It's pretty wild that the spring was able to keep everything together to the point I didn't think anything was wrong with the column

@@BPattB ok cool. I’ll have to check it out, yeah that’s crazy, which I believe that’s part of the point of the spring is to keep everything tight as it wears, like I said though I’ve never actually disassembled one so I could be wrong.
