Double Pen Box

For this one, I took a 2x4" an d ripped it down on the tablesaw to give me 2 lengths. This formed the Lid and the base. The lid is about 3/4" inch thick. Using the Router Table, I set up stop blocks and set the fence to route out 2 grooves for the pens to sit in. The depth is just under 3/4" (17mm) The box was then sanded to 800 grit, given a coat of Danish oil to bring out the grain and colour. 5 coats of spray of varnish with sanding in between gives a glass like finish. The decorative hardware was then nailed and screw into place and the project was done.

Nice little box, I would have sunk the hinges flush and used smaller screws would look more professional finish.
