Ryan Holiday is getting alot of criticism at the moment, but he is publicising the best and most useful parts of Stoicism. It's very impressive and indeed is a step forward in Stoicism (Stoicism isn't just something locked in the past, nor is it a rigoroualy defined creed.)

Seeing this channel grow to so many Stoic subscribers is amazing. I can remember when there were approx 90k subs, and thinking "Why isn't this channel more popular?" But all that was needed is time and patience.

One of the best things I've found that helps with both my manic and my anger is going for walks. When my husband and I have a fight, and especially when we're at a point where we need to step away from each other to cool off because we're not getting anywhere and cooler heads prevail. I'll go for a walk. It helps get rid of my pent up 'manic/anger' energy and I can rant and rage and flail all while being outside getting good sunshine and fresh air and there's just something oddly comforting about how that no matter how much of your troubles you throw into the sky, there is still more than enough room for every football field in the world, the mall of america and three disneylands to spare.

Be patient with YOURSELF while your course is correcting. The process of change and refinement isn't always pleasant. If you've been listening and reading Ryan's material, as you've stated, now is the time to use it, and NOT all of it. This is the mistake that most make when they're hit with a challenge. Don't think that you have to work with every principle you've ever learned. This is COUNTER PRODUCTIVE! All you need is ONE WORD, ONE REVELATION of understanding to carry you into Higher Consciousness. Though you walk THROUGH the VALLEY (a low point) and the SHADOW of DEATH (the illusion of separation) fear no evil (that which is contrary to the truth of your Being. "Evil has within its own self the elements of self-destruction."

It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters. We cannot choose our external circumstances, but we can always choose how we respond to them.We cannot control the external events around us; we can control ourselves. It is not things that trouble us, but our judgments about things.

While I have embraced and largely practiced stoicism for many decades, I can’t help noting that this has become increasingly the domain of the affluent, or at least the comfortable seeking escape from the stress of modernity. While I know the basic concepts are valuable, it seems these days it often transforms into “naval gazing” amongst the affluent. It might be interesting for Ryan to give a seminar to a group of homeless people, and see how that lands.

You are making my point. Stoicism now seems to be adopted and dominated by the wealthy and powerful --at variance with its humble origins. Ryan charges between 50 and 100 thousand dollars for a speaking engagement. Unlikely the common man or a group of homeless will be able to come up with that sum.@@josepsoler4124
