In this episode, I reinstall the transmission in my wife's 1999 Toyota Solara V6 and replace the friction material on the Fidanza lightened flywheel.

    Very helpful. Thank you.
No one tells you that that the clutch alignment tool will not work very well with many Toyotas because they do not have a pilot bearing.
Or that initially the clutch/pressure plate looks misaligned because it barely mates to the surface of the flywheel - but corrects itself as you tighten the mounting bolts.
    Thanks again.

I knew that Toyota made a Camry Solara with a v6 and a manual transmission.

Hello, your video was my "guiding light" during my clutch/flywheel job on my 2000 Toyota Camry. You made a couple of videos pertaining to the solara and all of them were well done and very informative. I just finished my clutch job a week ago and upon starting of the vehicle, my car would not crank. It just made a spinning noise at the starter. Ive replaced the battery and purchased another new starter and still, I have no crank. Do you know if there is anything I could've compromised during the repair? Anything is helpful. Im out of a car and tempted to take it to a shop. Last resort ofcourse. Like I said, I replaced the flywheel and installed a new clutch kit.

So sorry. I just saw this. Any time I do something to my car or have someone do something to my car and then something happens, I suspect that last thing.
Since this was 3 weeks ago, I'm guessing you have figured it out. I'd like to hear what it was so that I don't do that.
My guess is that the starter was spinning but not jumping out to engage the flywheel. Their are two wires, one that turns the motor and one that forces it into contact with the flywheel. Old cars like these often have the connectors fall apart. I would check there first. You can even pull the starter off and put it on the ground and try both wires with a battery. By connecting to one, you will see the starter spin and by connecting to the other you should see it engage. The case of the starter is the ground. Otherwise, it could be that your starter just went bad, maybe handling it was the last straw or something.
There is a very slight chance the flywheel was wrong and so the starter won't engage with it, but if you followed the video, you probably checked the new one up against the old one.
Reply back and let me know.

Thank you sir for your informative videos. I have a questions regarding a Toyota Solora. I have the same vehicle but the clutch won’t engage. What were the signs that you needed to replace the clutch? What happens now is that I can put the car into gear and release the clutch, but the clutch doesn’t catch or engage. There is no check engine light on either. I hoping it’s not the clutch as I doubt I will have the ability to do this myself. Thank you sir.

Thank you for the kind words.
Let me make sure I understand what's happening. You can depress the clutch pedal and put the car in gear, but when you release the clutch pedal the car doesn't go. Also the engine doesn't stall, so it just sit there spinning but not moving. Correct? If this is right, then I'm sorry to tell you that is a classic case of needing a new clutch. In this case, either the pressure plate isn't strong enough to hold the clutch disk tight to the flywheel. This can be caused by a faulty pressure plate, an excessively worn clutch disk or a throwout bearing that is not pushing against the pressure plate splines. In the last circumstance, that would imply that the hydraulic pressure is not moving the throwout bearing, which could be a master or slave cylinder, leak in the clutch line or perhaps a clutch that just needs to be bled. I don't think this is the case, though since you said you can get it into gear. Usually it won't go into gear if the hydraulics are the problem. Which leaves the other two causes, a worn clutch or bad pressure plate. Either way, that's a new clutch.
If I didn't get that right, let me know. And good luck. The clutch job on this car isn't easy. I'd call it a 9/10 difficulty. Having someone else do it is usually pretty expensive because of that. Sorry.

Ay you think you could make a video on how to change the spark plugs on the solara :( I really need some help

Well, that's a tough one. The front three are one of the easiest things you can do. The back three are like brain surgery. I haven't done that repair since I started the channel so I don't have video, but I may have some pics I could throw together to help.
What I can tell you is, when I do it, I remove the intake manifold to get access. That means you need to make sure you have a new intake manifold gasket ready. It seems extreme, but seriously, it's a lot easier than trying to get them out otherwise.
But if it makes you feel better there are cars that require the engine to be removed to replace them. Yikes!

Hey I just looked at my wife's Solara and this video might work. You have to clear out some wires first. He doesn't show that part.

no manifold removal is needed! All you need is a universal flex joint on your ratchet and the shortest extension that will reach the plugs and you can remove and install them under the manifold, see Toyota nation for some nice DIYs!
