We will be taking a look at the basics of your Freighter and how to send your Frigates on Expeditions.
As well as look into unlocking technology, expanding the Freighters storage and how to get S-Class upgrades for your Freighter.

You can't have a settlement and a fleet at the same time. Is that a glitch? Or dose a fleet count as a settlement? If so that's lame
There are a lot of issues with freighters now, so I'd say it's a glitch.
@@princerose233 You can have both. The problems with the frigates was a glitch related to the upgrade and most of those problems have been resolved.

As for acquiring Salvage Frigate Modules, you can attack the cargo pods on the freighters themselves without getting a loss of race standing. Destroying the stand-alone cargo pods will always give you a negative on race standing. Also, you can tell what each particular cargo pod contains by getting close and "inspecting" the pod. This way, you can optimize your time while acquiring Salvage Frigate Modules. Of course, if you want to also grab the materials that are in the other cargo pods, that's up to you.

Best way to farm Frigate Salvage modules is to enter an uninhabited star system (I did this in a system with no space station).
Then, go planet side and get a 2-3 star sentinel level. Hop in your ship, go to space.
When you get the wanted level to 5 in space, they'll send a freighter after you. You can destroy the 4 cargo pods on it, boost away until you get the "hostile sub space scan" to come up again, and repeat when the new freighter pops up.
Its still a random chance to get the item, but you get NO penalty to your reputation.
After raiding about 10 sentinel freighters(maybe more) I got 5 frigate salvage. RNG is a B but this is by far the easiest method I’ve found of farming frigate salvage.
Honestly the rep system is a joke, I've raided over a dozen ships for supplies and just farmed the sentinel frigates as a nice side objective. Space fights are too easy, lol

FYI, you can get one free emergency broadcast receiver from Helios in the Nexus each week. Also, if you only shoot the freighter cargo pods (not the frigates or smaller cargo ships), you won't take a faction standing hit. Placing your ship's target reticle (cursor) on each cargo pod will tell you what it contains allowing you to scope out where the frigate modules are located (If the cargo pod just says "cargo pod", it has nanites inside it). Each freighter group that spawns in will typically have 2-4 frigate modules (in the freighters). Once I have scoped out where all the frigate modules are, I hit just those ignoring the sentinels and then jet away. : )

Thanks for the additional tips on getting some more Frigate modules! Only depending on getting them via Frigate missions is a pain, so it's always good to find more reliable/consistent ways! 😃

Door, very well explained. For the measly loss of 100ly range you can recover two slots by scrapping the red/green enabling drive modules as the Indium upgrade allows access to all star class types the same as your Starship does. Hello Games also only had the Indium/blue one in the last Expedition Freighter as an example which gave access to red/green/blue systems. Keep up the great work!
Yes you indeed can! Highest tier items also work for lower tiers in most cases (just like the Atlas Pass). But indeed you will band in some lightyears + adjacency bonus.

This is a great guide. This will help me get the most out of my 7 section Sentinel type dreadnought.
From what ive seen, This is the definitive guide to setting up your freighter, period. Comprehensive, concise, and exactly what i was looking for. Thanks for taking the time to make this! I Just found my first S Class 7 Section Dreadnought after 300+ hours and finally let my A class Venator out to pasture lol. Already on the way to maxxing it out
How much did it cost out of interest? Though I'm sure after 300 hours the cost probably didn't matter to you
@@Fromatic I'm pretty sure it was 175 million u; somewhere around there. It had a ton of slots on it. Took 118 attempts over a few nights of trying lol. Are you on console or PC?

I would just throw for newer players also you can land on your frigates when they aren't on missions also for free materials, units, and a random planetary scan. And you can research and install the exocraft terminal so you can call it in when the freighter is in the system instead of building a exocraft spawn.

It’s a grind for sure but honestly I think it’s really worth it, the convenience of having your freighter nearby for storage and Exocraft summoning alone is already worth it imo! Let alone that you can literally build an entire base in it and use it to travel halfway across the galaxy!

I had 3 s class upgrade mods in tech and 3 in general for everything - which was very OP and made fleet expeditions far too easy, in fact it made them very boring; I only had to add one frigate(any frigate) to an expedition and I was already on 5*. Dropped it now to 2 of each in tech and none in general (except hyperdrive, gotta have my 6k jump). Still pretty OP with just 2.

Thanks for the support! The placement matters in terms of having the upgrade modules touch the correct sides of the tech for best adjacency bonusses (at least according to my testing), if tech a and tech b have no adjacency bonus you can of course place them wherever you like.

I don't wanna mention it because I might jinx it. But what about the anomaly portable refiner for the backpack? Talking about storing the beacon to use over and over again. Does it still work? Haven't tried it yet but hoping they didn't patch it because don't wanna turn off the buy feature in settings to get everything for free. Maybe later in the game when boredom and laziness set in.

put the broadcast receiver in your personal refiner before you land on the derelict freighter & you can use it as many times as you want. i personally dismiss frigates when they're damaged, i hate repairing them
Repairing them is annoying, but I personally do repair them. Hated getting 30 of them in A/S-Class. 😬
I have to do this method as the price doesn't reset from the scrap dealer for me playing offline.
The price resets every week from the top of my head. I explain it in my Derelict Freighter guide should you want to make 100% sure.
@@CookingDoor it is either a bug or only resets if you are online. It doesn't reset for me an helios doesn't offer me another free one each week. I suspect it is because the pc i play on isn't on the net anymore.

As a Mass Effect fan since the first game's original announcement and launch, it's a damn shame that I JUST found out about the SR-1 being a fleet ship while watching this video just to Google the "how to" and discover that it was a surprise bonus that players only had two weeks to obtain.
That really bums me out. I would have LOVED to have had the Normandy in my fleet on NMS...

How do you get hyperdrive upgrades, I've been doing the runs for a while and keep getting mods for everything else. Also is it possible for to find the other crew credentials for the captains log? And does it make a difference which you use?
If you use the console option to reset the freighter, does it go back to the state it was in when you found it, or become totally empty? Mine came with a bunch of rooms that I had to delete. Also, do you get the materials back? That's a lot of silver and tritium to lose if not.
Hey so I noticed you have specific spots for your tech modules to be placed. Does that have an actual in game effect? I though you just place the tech modules wherever and it wouldn’t matter.
I never knew they had upgrades and I've been playing this game for more than 3 years
To be fair, they weren't in there from the start. They've been added with the Derelict Freighter update!
Has anyone figured out what part of the NPC freighters carry salvaged freighter modules?
I’ve been going off after crashed “emergency beacon“ freighters on the planets but they are not giving out freighter upgrade related items. If anything, the crashed freighters will give 1-2 ship slot or multi tool expansion slot upgrades.
Did they reduce the max Freighter hyperdrive range since? Mine is capped at 4.9k with all upgrades shown here and 2x 3 hyperdrive modules in tech and inventory
Anybody know why my warp efficiency wont go past 4.0 and my hyperdrive range past 5800? I'm using the exact same hyperdrive setup as this video, and i have a post Desolation Freighter.

You can get a free locator from helios on the anamoly once a week. Once you have one use the refiner trick and you don't need any more.

But I think I might have a bug of sort. I tried it multiple times in a row (20 to be exact), and I always get one of four upgrades : hyperdrive, beacon, combat unit and mining unit. Never once did I get a fuel unit, an exploration unit or a trade unit.
Has anyone faced this problem, or am I just very unlucky ?
Everything shakes when they warp into the area in my game . I don’t see that here. If it is an effect that can be disabled, I’m going to disable it.

To be honest, I do not know. Haven’t tried.
You could make a manual save and try, if you don’t get anything just reload your manual save and no harm done!

You can transfer it to the new one when buying
Question for yall, I have a capital freighter that has only two rows available in the tech slot, am I able to increase those since they're not in the outlined box?
Yeah if you increase the slots you can do so beyond the highlighted area (to a degree). Same goes for starships!
I used the same set up for the hyperdrive but could only max out at 4,934 LY. I have an S class star destroyer capital ship. Wonder if that matters.
Yeah same for me, same freighter ship aswell. So either they reduced the range since this vid was posted or our ships don't have the same range as the sentinel one

I cannot get these freighters battles to start. I know i've played way over 3 hours the game has been on for like 6-7 hours now today i've been warping back and forth between 2 3 star places and i've done way more then 5 times and i havent seen a freighter needing rescuing. This is by far the most frustrated i've been with this game. I see all these videos showing it making it look so easy and ive been trying for a few days now to get one to spawn. Idk whats up with my game and why it isn't doing what all these videos show =(

Confused noob question: why is the exact positioning of the upgrade slots important? Do they buff depending on what they are next to?
Basically if you have 2 or more upgrades of the same purpose (like hyperdrive) right next to each other, they will boost (although im not sure how much), so if you have several upgrades of same type, then the positioning is meant to get the optimal setup of boosted upgrades
Guys a tip to easily get as much of anything you want.
1. Go to the anomaly
2. Put item you want to duplicate in your personal refiner
3. Get in and out of your ship
4. Take item out of refiner and trade anything to another player (ex. Oxygen)
5. Reload your autosave
6. Go to your personal refiner. You have duplicated your item
I mainly use it to dupe storage augmentation and other things that are hard to get like void eggs.
Yeah I don't really use or promote exploits - hence it's not in the video. But am also avid promoter of letting people play as they please, so you do you of course! And thanks for sharing for those who are interested. 😃
