being friends with the band, esp dinner friends steve f, sybil s, AND SEEN THE BAND ON GUEST LISTS 50/60 TIMES, THIS IS THE GREATEST IVE EVER SEEN THEM, IM AT THE FRONT ON THIS
i was lucky enough to see them the following night at Leeds, it was a concert i will never forget, seen them 5 times after that including the reunion tour in 2004, and i still think the Leeds concert was the one i enjoyed the most, amazing to see them still going now.
The evening prior to this recording I seen Duran at the King's Hall in Belfast. No one came to Northern Ireland during the Troubles but Duran did! If I remember correctly this was the last ever Tube, Duran closed the show.
Looked for this for a long time and it's finally here! Thanks a million! James Brown was meant to play this slot but he was having his teeth done at the time and couldn't do it. Taped it off the extended Sunday repeat (the original - shorter - live episode went out Friday night) and kept it for years after. Great performance and particularly enjoyed the backing singer (!). Loved the revised 'Hungry Like The Wolf'; the guitar riff (and vocal melody?) must have been Andy Taylor's, necessitating the revised version. 'Wild Boys' is fantastic. At the end, presenter Paula Yates (RIP) said, "They were wicked, were they not?" Yup.
Really enjoyed watching this performance. I had seen DD in Dublin on the Tuesday prior to this for the first time and re lived the whole thing again ....

I saw them for my 16th birthday (25th april 87 at Leeds Queens Hall) And they wore what they are wearing here grin emoticon grin emoticon grin emoticon Made my night when they sang happy birthday as it was drummer Steve Ferrone's birthday!! Thanks for posting this :D
I was lucky enough to work as a drum technician for Duran during this tour in the States around 87' or 88' and honestly thought it was the best they'd ever sounded. They'd tried to alter their sound during this period, after Roger and Andy left and their popularity had waned slightly, with a more "rockier" sound, with Steve Ferrone on drums and Warren on guitar, i.e. like on this version of Hungry Like The Wolf. It mgt not be everyone's favourite version, but I think they wanted to move away from their pop image and prove themselves as musicians who could play. Steve Ferrone is one of the world's best drummers who's played with many top artists down the years, and in my opinion Cuccurollo was a more talented musician than Andy Taylor. This line-up was my favourite, as I was a big fan of the funkier/rockier sound they were going about from the release of the Notorious album in 86' through to 1990, but then they became so uncool as the music industry was changing, but thankfully came back again with the Wedding Album and a new sound again.
+music lover 2 Totally agree - im a drummer and huge Steve Ferrone Fan - Notorius was by far their best album in my own opinion - I LOVE this line up - great sound at this gig -That Pearl kit sounds amazing
+music lover 2 I would take Andy Taylor over Warren Cuccurollo . I agree w/ you about the changing of the music industry around 1990 and Duran Duran looking like old hat by that time. They would rebound nicely later on and earn the respect they eventually deserved. This version of Duran had too many horns but they like to change their sound every few years.
ok cool lucky you but my question is who was the drummer for D and D on tour between Roger and Steve and Sterling I think it was Frans Guendes IS that right (misspell>) thanks
+Mistysmudge1 my bad, I only heard the first song :-) now I see it's a gig of 5 songs ... so Hungry Like the Wolf ... I actually do like the jazzy version going up tempo while it emerges!
This performance is red hot tight as, it gets watched it so many times and I'm not even a fan of them particularly just shoes how, great this line up is. Ferrone owns it
great live indeed I was a big fan of them, my first great passion about music they were so famous in Italy probably as the Beatles was on the 60s, I recall I live album I used to listen every morning before going at school so checking around on youtube I came here, I don't recall the name of that album as I had just a copy recorded on tape but it was around 1985/86 anyway I'll find it. John Taylor what a great musician I think the best one of the band its bass sounds so cool and he plays with style, the drummer here its great too and being a drummer myself It's makes me feel good thinking how he'd be great to play these songs, I've heard ppl back in the days who used to compare boysband of early 90s with Duran Duran and others bands of that time and I have to disagree, first of all they were a band of musicians and the fact they were good looking guys too its just a secondary aspect this live clearly its showing how talented they were even bit funky, cool sound with horns, percussion and backing vocals. thanks for the upload man
I was not a fan of the addition of the horn section during this phase of DD. Just as I was not a big fan of the acoustic phase in the early 90's. Although there are some of their songs do sound good when done acoustically, their music is meant to be played live and loud!
@@mikewilcox7853 Andy had an attitude problem. No need to feel sorry for him. He left. Duran Duran wanted him in but he was a stubborn old shiate of a priack!
I'm glad they changed :Hungry Like a Wolf: The first iteration was rather boring and forgettable. My heart still skips a beat even today if I catch that song on the radio. Duran Duran ROCKS!!
I was 15 by the time they filmed this I was so over my obsession with Duran x2 a avid fan from age 9 so by 15 I thought they were cringe. I'd discovered the cramps, the Stooges, MC5, public enemy , beastie boys GAye bykers on acid etc etc But I even after going to thousands of gigs & raves for the last 30 years I still listen to Duran Duran in 2019 but tbh their first three albums & subsequent hits like Ordinary day. I wish them well.
CDEbFGAbB Good catch! Hard to know whether JT’s raised-eyebrow reaction is “ooof, almost another Live Aid-calibre crack, Simon,” or just a reaction to what nearly happened here...but I like to think they’re both remembering the infamous fluffed note.
You should clean your ears out because Warren's miles better (and better looking) and Andy poached Warren's former band-mates in Missing Persons anyhow. Andy wanted out and Warren wanted in. Plus the drummer here is better also.

Brilliant drummer, gives such power to the overall sound.
Steve Ferrone…he was and still is one of the best drummers around …

Always loved the way Simon spins around. And he has a good head of hair on him. Very nice.

Me too, one of this best moves
John is directing the brass section through the gig ... lovely!
and oh my that Wild Boys intro!!!
Isn't it sexy as heck???
It's similar to the one featured in the maxi-single - DD have always released dancing maxi versions of their singles since their first album
Fantastic sound arrangiaments...I love the live period '87!
Awesome! Duran Duran is the best!
This version of the band is, by far the best isn't it , full power with Ferrone on drums just awesome

@@sidstewart7399 I agree but it's dumb for them to think that based on all their music since!
I think the horns are way too loud and in your face . They really wanted those horns to overide every other instrument.
warren cuccurullo?
Nick has very feminine hands! lovely.
Not the same without Andy & Roger, loved Warren as a guitarist but original is best.
do you talk with your mirror a lot ?
This "Hungry Like the Wolf" version is, well, pretty awful. Great song otherwise...love Duran Duran! Wahi' Valleys

You know if the studio version of 'Meet El Presidente' had been as up-tempo as the live version it might have done much better as a single
They changed the song structures on this tour. They must have been bored playing the same stuff. Songs sound totally different than the originals.
