Exactly! Sell the car, sell the house. Find a REAL home you want(which will most likely be much less than this one) then you are set. Even if you rented the house out you would still have to pay ridiculous taxes on it so it's a lost cause. Sell and move on!

The negative effects of the giveaway are not a problem with HGTV and their generosity. It's a problem with our over-reaching government and a well-known agency called the IRS.
Over reaching? Do you like Street lights, parks, police, fire, roads, schools, etc.? Where do you think the money for public libraries and other amenities comes from? Every civilization in history had taxes.
Yeah, overreaching! Itit's always TAX TAX TAX, REGULATE REGULATE! We're forced to pay alot of taxes for a country where the main reason to declare sovereignty from the British was over taxes. And as far the " muh roads " excuse, streets, security, mail delivery and the the like, all goods and services currently monopolized by the government ( with the exception of the military ) were by and large in private hands and the quality was better for it.
Why do it then???!😡 it would be so much better for HGTV to make several homes and give people a chance to actually win/own a normal home, and that would help so many more people and be more kind to humanity!
Because most people don't think about the consequences of winning. They just want to win. Also, the more people opt for the (reduced) cash option, the more times they can raffle off the same house. It saves them the hassle and expense of buying a new mansion every year.
The house pictured in the video thumbnail - I worked on that home as an interior trim Carpenter, it was extremely well built. The tradesmen I worked with were all very talented.
Then the government taxes the materials used, the tools used, the land, all of your wages earned while building, all the food you ate while building the place, then they taxed the winner of the home. Seems fair that they profited from all the great work that was done.
Always take the cash, if not just take the house to sell it. Most people who win the house could never afford the taxes anyway. HGTV will never award enough additional cash to cover the taxes on the house. It’s completely ridiculous and negates the purpose of giving people who couldn’t otherwise afford it a chance to win a house. I will say people also need to realize these practices are NOT exclusive to HGTV. Anytime you win anything of any significance you have to pay taxes on it.
So you're going to pay 37% in federal taxes and state taxes, if your state collects a state tax, the a 6 percent realtor commission when you sell, property taxes for the time you owned the home. Good luck with that.
@@jlcork I'd rather have 50% of $2,000,000 than nothing. While I agree it's a win for the government, it's not exactly a loss for the winner. Sell it all and live debt free. That in itself is a giant game changer. I would have tons of money if I didn't pay a mortgage, car payments, student loans etc...
I remember the days of the show from the 50's - Queen For A Day. The main giveaways were washing machines, refrigerators and stuff like that. What the contestants had to do was tell their personal stories of woe - deaths of children, loss of jobs, horrible diseases - and the most tragic was given a brand new appliance. The drawback was that the taxes were so high few could even afford those. Yes, I had a family friend who went on that show. Just making a comment.
It's not that bad you guys. You can sell or you can take the cash version of the prize and still have some money you didn't have 5 seconds before you won to buy a house, vacation, car, whatever. I enter sweepstakes far more than I play the lottery because it costs me nothing if I don't win.
HGTV definitely tries to make it seem very easy to upgrade a home - and it's often a lot harder They skip over contractor problems, foundation issues, etc
@@FaithandNova And they don't just have a small house, they already have a monstrous house like the 2020 HGTV winners, who also happen to live close to the house already. Can't tell me that wasn't rigged.
This isn't exclusive to HGTV. Any place that awards vacations and so on, you have to pay for. You win a $20,000 vacation package, it will actually cost you $8,000 if you want to go on the vacation (40% in taxes). That is how they make their money. They give you the cash and still get to keep the actual prize plus the publicity from it. The company always wins.
It sounds like you're implying that the company makes their money via taxes, which is actually the IRS. Any company that gives things away do "write it off" for tax purposes, meaning they get to subtract the value of their gift from their taxable earnings.
sandy89107, Well, the government stakes large claim on everything and has mercinaries with guns to enforce it! If you don't pay those taxes, you'll probably wind up in one of the government's slammers, with 3 meals a day, an uncomfortable cot in a cell or dorm, very very few or no personal possessions other than those issued by the jail, and every civil liberty gone! The state has no patience for those who don't pay their stratosphericly high taxes!
nightterror007 high taxes for the people who can afford that kind of stuff is there for the government to keep running. We already have big companies not paying taxes and taking advantage of the system so unless people complain and start taking action against the people rigging the system, say hello to high taxes. Besides, are people that greedy that they want all of that money for themselves without realizing how a system for everyone works? It’s not like magically all of these politicians are in favor of reducing the government and making it smaller, they are proud to take advantage of it!
@Vegas Mitchell .. I hear you on that. So much could actually change if we would learn to all stick together. If it weren't for all us small people our corrupt government wouldn't get paid
I stopped into and years ago for the HGTV dream home because I started to read the fine print that the government is going to come through lotta money. I’ve only seen a handful of people win the house and they all seem like they’re not doing that bad to begin with. So I figure my chances of winning are slim to none.
HGTV is super shady about their contests. If you read the official rules in their entirety, they state that they reserve the right to do a full background check on the "potential" winner to ensure that they are awarding the "Dream package" to someone of reputable character. So, basically, myself or Joe Schmo off the street could be the official winner, i.e. the actual/first name drawn, but when the powers that be run their background check and feel you don't fit their ideal of the "Dream Winner" they draw another name, possibly multiple until they find a person who fits their profile. The official/actual winner will be none the wiser. This is bullshit folks, and in my opinion flat out discrimination. It's profiling based on (insert criteria here) socioeconomic class, education, bank account funds, credit score, social media history, etc, etc. Typically, the ONLY thing that disqualifies a person from a contest is if they are affiliated directly or indirectly (via employment or through family members) with either the contest's host or sponsors. I rarely see many contests that even exclude former felons, but HGTV, has it's own set of rules about how they award prizes. In most instances, if you win a prize, you ACTUALLY WIN the prize. Not so with HGTV. If you don't meet their arbitrary predetermined criteria, they move on to the next person, which is why they give themselves a month from contest end up to announcement of the winner... so they can CHOOSE and VET the winner. Nothing random or legit about these "Dream Contests." The HGTV "Dream Package," is a scam based on profiling. If you aren't already living in a certain "class" as predetermined by HGTV, there is zero chances of you winning, so basically no need to even enter these bogus contests. Only facts, folks.
I imagine awarding a child molester or former rapist, or convict probably wouldn’t be family friendly tv Deborah. They can run background checks all they want, doesn’t bother me.
Same as Extreme Makeover Home Edition. Most if not all couldn't keep the houses. Taxes, electrical, AC, Heat etc all goes up and they cant afford it and have to sell.
Yes indeed, the US government is all about taxing people in poverty. That way they can fund all thoos do gooder self-satsifying programs. In other words shut up pay your damn taxes, we'll tell what to think, when to think of it..
I tried for that house last fall. The green one, I think in Washington or Oregon. Applied every day but didn't win. Oh well, still was free and I think better odds than the lottery.
It’s Gorgeous of course and a Dream-to win it, but I am a middle aged single mom and could never Pay taxes on a home or anything so I would take the cash option and go home and buy a home closer to where I am from. Maybe take some furniture too I need a bedroom so that’s about it! still would be a miracle for me to win a HGTV Home! 🥰♥️♥️♥️♥️
If I won, I would really want to live there forever. But knowing I could not afford the taxes, I turn it into a b&b minus the breakfast, so others could enjoy it once a week.
d'nomar senoj, You'd have to check the zoning and see whether commercial uses are allowed or not. In this so called " land of the free " you're not legally allowed to do what you want with your home and land, the municipal and state governments have a much bigger claim on your property than you do, hence why the property taxes and zoning restrictions, it's even worse if you live in a subdivision that has a Homeowners Association, those can be real nightmares! It's a sick system we live under where we can't use our own properties how we want and we have to get government permission to alter the homes we supposedly own!
Jen Drives A Jeep it’s a gift of more than $1 million, I’m sure you can work with your financial team to cushion the blow but that’s a lot of money to get in one fell swoop.
Jen Drives A Jeep, The government will steal as much as it can from you, and if you don't pay up, you'll probably end up in one of the government's cages\ prisons.
Add to that if you’re even related or know somebody that works for one of the sponsors you can’t enter. My husband works for one of the sponsors and even our grown children and our friends that aren’t even related to us cannot enter.
I would take the cash prize. Besides the fees the houses are in the middle of no where which would make the cash prize easier to get than selling the house.
And the bills for those houses are cast-iron guaranteed to be in the $10,000s per month! So financially, the HGTV "dream" home ends up being a nightmare!
I get that many sell the homes to pay off the tax burden, but I was wondering if the furnishings you can take back to your own home, or the many TVs, electronics, ect.?
Paul Bob I raised my boys in KS. All 3 are productive human beings. They have turned into fine young men. Manhattan has a lot to offer in the ways of tourism, fishing, boating, antiques abound. Lots of shops and KS state university is located there. My boys enjoyed the high school sports offered. All in all except for certain laws in KS I enjoyed living and raising my family.
In Canada the gifted home would not be taxable. A principal residences is not taxed when you sell either but a mortgage is not tax deductible. Some economists say it's financially better to deduct mortgages but it's really nice when you sell to know the money does not have a tax burden. People can often not afford to live in the homes they win in Canada because of property taxes but you could live for awhile because property taxes could be ignored for a year or so, until the city gets around to collecting.
@Atheria PsychicGal. I believe you have a valid point! I've been entering these giveaways from HGTV and DIY (when they were doing the Blog Cabin) for YEARS. My research has shown me that HGTV seems to over-evaluate the retail value of their homes. When you are responsible for all the closing costs and taxes and the money you win with the home doesn't cover the expenses, the winner can, then, get the false hope that they will be able to sell the house for what HGTV says it's valued. Many people who have never bought a home, before, do not know that a real estate agent's appraisal is not the legal appraised value of the home. If the house doesn't appraise for the price tag you are hoping for, then you either don't sell the house or take a loss and may not be able to recover all your expenses. You may end up with less money than you would have gotten if you'd just taken the cash option.
I still want to win. I entered every day 2x each day. They can do a background check. I think they would be making a great choice picking my family to occupy one of their dream homes.
This year has been the only HGTV Dream Home Giveaway (2020) that I've actually wanted to enter and WIN more than ANY of the other stunning & exceptionally beautiful homes the show has actually featured to date. All of their homes have been magnificent, gorgeous & breathtaking, but THIS home which was built in the marshlands of Hilton Head Island, S.C., is outstanding from all the previous homes for a very special reason to me. During the 70's I lived with my BF & her husband (Rick) for over 3 years in Beaufort, S.C. Right down the street from Hilton Head; down the road from historic Charleston, S.C., & up the road from beautiful Savannah, GA. We were nestled right in the middle while he was stationed at Parris Island Marine Corp Base. We had the most wonderful times there. Fishing! Swimming. Cooking out. Going out to various nightclubs almost every night to listen to all the local country bands. When they got married in July of 1977 (😏❓) they celebrated their Honeymoon on what was THEN a rapidly developing resort area named Hilton Head that was still very much under construction. And they stayed in the cutest little Tree House called "Rikki's Tree House" situated out on sprawling sandy beaches with thousands of Pine Trees and little grass. Rather primitive locals but with heart. The Docks or Boardwalks that extended 100's of feet over the marshes was absolutely gorgeous. The beaches unfortunately were more ragged shells and people's instead of soft sand, and the "no-see-um's" & mosquitos were our worse nightmare. Daily my BF and I would count the 100's of bites on our arms, legs, back & stomach to see who had more! Nothing but Avon's Skin So Soft would repell those horrid, nasty little insects! The Marine Corp literally ordered that lotion for the recruits as they came in to Parris Island & for all the enlisted permanent party that had to brave those aggressive mats! I knew several Drill Instructors who wouldn't go anywhere without it on! (They smelled so good too!😁) One undisputable truth about that little tucked away corner of the South was the Heat! It was NOT uncommon for temperatures to reach 80° or higher in early February! Mild winters & long, hot, dry summer's were typical. The actual town of Beaufort was beyond quaint and small-town picturesque perfect. It was the most idyllic, darling home to historic and charming bed & breakfasts (not many at first) older magnificent homes built at least 100 years prior. Huge wrap around porches, iron fencings, Oak Trees that outdated the mansions with Spanish moss that dripped gracefully to the ground off those huge branches! All of these homes ran along Main Street along the water's edge & circled around until they intersected with Hwy 21, the ONLY road that took you out of Beaufort! Really small & friendly little taverns would be nestled in between periodically. You could hear live music every night as you walked along the marina & main road to any of dozens of outstanding resturants that served freshly caught seafood right off the shrimping boats mixed with staples of the South, such as: Fried Green Tomatoes, fried Okra, fresh breaded hushpuppies, creamy coleslaw, potatoe salad, sliced riped tomotoes, cucumbers & corn on the cob from the local farmers. And no where could you go where someone didn't have an ice cold Sweet Tea to offer you. The blue Atlantic crabs were huge! The scallops always so tender, and the shrimp was just perfectly steamed or fried! I was introduced to "Poor Man's Lobster" which wasn't but certainly tasted identical to real lobster! I heard it was actually called Rock Fish and I was instantly addicted to it! The people have always reminded me of what I call the "True South" hospitality that exists away from giant, over crowded cities and the busy hustle of the North where we're known for being rather elusive, or worse yet, rude. Not in Beaufort. They ALL wave Good Morning. They all smile and share recipes, good jokes, a helping hand & occasionally some juicy gossip. When your there you will feel as if you've spent your entire life there. It's a snail's crawl relaxing, (easy to get used to quickly!) laid back casual with a hint of that old money richness in the air. Intelligent, yet so down to earth, you could be having coffee with the Head of the local Bank or with a farmer who supplies mouthwatering produce or even one of the Capt's of the magnificent and huge stomping boats that are constantly driving up & down the bay. But you would not be able to distinguish the difference of anyone you meet unless you asked them straight out, because they all possess the same smiling, courteous attention while your talking. Unpretentious. Polite. Absolutely charming! I chalked up more memories in 3 years down there than what I've accumulated in my hometown during a Decade! I love the smell of that salt air, and the sounds of Cicadas, bulldogs, & crickets at night while sitting on the porch watching the sun set and listening to the water from the bay as it would lap against a dock or just the shore. All these years later, all I've ever wanted to do was revisit that wonderful place. Frogmore, with its haunted tales of a ghostly woman who floats around with a lantern searching for her husband who she found hanging from a tree! But don't let your boyfriend's or husband's get out of the car alone! The story goes that she seeks revenge for her husband's death & any loved one will find the same demise waiting for him! (Apparently she doesn't care for single guys!) There is also the several hundred year old Fort on Frogmore Island the reeks of civil war days and it's own ghostly tales. But the coolest thing I learned about the area was the true yet mysterious natives to this area known as the Gullah People that were enslaved from Africa over 400 years ago. I'm fascinated with their language. A mixture of English, Scottish & African to form their own language called Geechee Creole. (That's a hard "G") Their language and small small community are quickly dying out due to encroaching housing and development which has now rendered them unable to live off the land and remain selfsufficent.
Don’t forget that if you keep the house, the electric bill alone is probably more than a winner’s salary can bear. I mean, all those windows, all those lights, the tremendous amount of square footage to either heat or cool, the acreage of lawn and foliage to tend to … AND THE INEVITABLE POOL! Then there’s the upkeep on whatever vehicle you win. It’s really unfair to viewers not to offer something we can realistically afford to live in, a prize I would definitely consider, provided the building is sturdy enough to last, say, 30+ years.
Here another thing THEY don’t tell you ! When you sign up for the contest , THEY subcontract out the registration to another party ! I filled out the forms on line but when it came to my phone number I put my wife’s number down instead of mine . A week later she gets lots of scam calls - ASKING FOR ME ! This is the only time I’ve put down her number so I know where this came from . I tried to contact HGTV to tell them someone on their inside is selling phone numbers and that’s when I found out they use a subcontractor . I never talked to anyone but , they denied everything . I like the shows but I’m done with everything else !
If you are going to enter a contest to change you’re life and win a new home with all the perks of furniture, design, location etc. They should at least also agree to pay the ungodly amount of taxes and any fees that come with it or what’s the point? Yes you can sell the house for cash but why not just pay someone cash if they win rather than the home. I understand it’s for marketing that they do this but let’s be honest, 28% actually end up moving to the new home and they can’t possibly think that’s going to change in the near future, especially with COVID . Give people a fighting chance to actually live in these homes they are spending there time entering the contest for and pay those taxes and actually make it a contest that someone who has there heart set on these beautiful homes can live in them.
Each time I tried to enter to win, it refused my entry. It wouldn't advance from the AGE question. Apparently there is an AGE discrimination when entering to win a home.
Wow!! I didn't know taxes would be so much, almost the same as the prize damn!! Government takes everything from us... If the winner decide to take the cash, how much would they be taking?

As a renter living in a tiny apartment with no backyard, I try for the HGTV homes.. I loved the one in New Mexico.. Somebody else who is not me won it..I just would like a bigger place with a backyard and some of the amenities I don't currently have..
I would move in and create a monetized you tube channel about my experience. I would also have it listed on Airbnb or do a Bed and Breakfast to help pay for the cost. You could also sell the more expensive appliances, furniture, art work and replace them high quality thrift store purchases!
Nicki Swift, I have entered a couple times No wins. But that's ALOT of money to give Auncle Sam 😬 to live in those Gorgeous Breath taking Homes. 💰💰💰🚘🏘️🏚️🏠. Happy New year 2019.
I think they should make the houses for a person who can pay the taxes. a rich person is not going to enter those contests, I say. We only enter what we really need or want money in cash. HGTV should think that the contestant can actually pay. They can make comfortable and not so expensive houses.
All these dream home raffles are a scam. Unless you are already a millionaire you can’t pay taxes on the win or property taxes. These houses always go to a close friend of relative of the raffle organizer.
I think what's going on is that the houses are a platform for showing off the sponsors merchandise and giving them advertising. If the winner can't keep the house they sell or take the cash option. But there would be no contest without the sponsors using this is an advertising opportunity.
Knowing about the tax liability, reputable contests with large prizes actually provides you with the estimated tax money as part of the award. They don't leave you stranded with something you cannot afford.

ya i would never live in those houses bc that is too much upkeep. i would take some of the furnishings, spend a weekend or two there, then sell it.
Lippy Witch exactly great idea!
If you read hgtv's rules or guidelines you only get but 10 percent of the furniture shown.
Why not rent it out when you're not there?
Josh Lawson some neighborhood HOA’s don’t allow for rentals
@@joshualawson7604 Renters are a PITA, just so you know...what was that movie...? "Pacific Heights?" Yeah. Not too far off in many cases.
I would take the cash
Hell yeah!
I think I’d spend about a month in the home with my family. Like a vacation. Then I’d put it on the market. Keep the cash.
I would take the cash in a heartbeat. And enjoy the winners weekend 😄
Well, I guess I feel better that I haven't won one yet...
Why? Nothing is free.
You could always take out a mortgage on that prize home to pay the taxes. And the interest on that mortgage would be tax deductible.
Brad Hansen nice 👍🏾
It's not that bad you guys. You can sell or you can take the cash version of the prize and still have some money you didn't have 5 seconds before you won to buy a house, vacation, car, whatever. I enter sweepstakes far more than I play the lottery because it costs me nothing if I don't win.
HGTV definitely tries to make it seem very easy to upgrade a home - and it's often a lot harder They skip over contractor problems, foundation issues, etc
Why poor renters never win
Never, it's always someone who already has a house
@@FaithandNova And they don't just have a small house, they already have a monstrous house like the 2020 HGTV winners, who also happen to live close to the house already. Can't tell me that wasn't rigged.
My wife told me if I win the Dream Home in Montana, she’s not coming.
I’ll miss her
firechiefj 🙊🙈🤣
Smart Woman
It's a win for the winner and them, take the money and improve your life. They keep the house and sell it. Please let me win it.
No the IRS always wins
It sounds like you're implying that the company makes their money via taxes, which is actually the IRS. Any company that gives things away do "write it off" for tax purposes, meaning they get to subtract the value of their gift from their taxable earnings.
When are you required to pay the taxes
I know right? I can't believe on this day, and age people still don't know that.
I just decided that I won't be trying to win anymore.
Yay...we win1.5 mil and have to pay government half!
sandy89107 I'm good with that lol
sandy89107 RIGHT??!!?? Damn greedy government!!! Ugh!! 😣
sandy89107, Well, the government stakes large claim on everything and has mercinaries with guns to enforce it!
Nothing random or legit about these "Dream Contests."
The HGTV "Dream Package," is a scam based on profiling. If you aren't already living in a certain "class" as predetermined by HGTV, there is zero chances of you winning, so basically no need to even enter these bogus contests. Only facts, folks.
Yes i believe they do background checks to see if you are home owners in good standing and credit checks
Well I should be fine then. I hang potatoes in the garage and my husband writes poetry for a living. Our budget is 1.8 million dollars.
I think youre a methhead
Why does the New America hate lower income people
I imagine awarding a child molester or former rapist, or convict probably wouldn’t be family friendly tv Deborah. They can run background checks all they want, doesn’t bother me.
So what did we learn today class that we didn't already know??? 🤔🤔🤔
Same as Extreme Makeover Home Edition. Most if not all couldn't keep the houses. Taxes, electrical, AC, Heat etc all goes up and they cant afford it and have to sell.
Shut. I play everyday these sweepstakes for years and never win. I might need to change what I do after watching this scoop.
Yep...take the money and go👍
And this is called the "land of opportunity"?!?
Yes indeed, the US government is all about taxing people in poverty. That way they can fund all thoos do gooder self-satsifying programs. In other words shut up pay your damn taxes, we'll tell what to think, when to think of it..
IW Nunn I don’t think they are giving away too many homes in Cambodia 😆
Land of opportunity, only if you can navigate tens of thousands of pages of regulations and an extremely complicated tax code!
I tried for that house last fall. The green one, I think in Washington or Oregon. Applied every day but didn't win. Oh well, still was free and I think better odds than the lottery.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
It’s Gorgeous of course and a Dream-to win it, but I am a middle aged single mom and could never Pay taxes on a home or anything so I would take the cash option and go home and buy a home closer to where I am from. Maybe take some furniture too I need a bedroom so that’s about it! still would be a miracle for me to win a HGTV Home! 🥰♥️♥️♥️♥️
It's a small price for the network to pay to get all that personal scoop on everyone who enters.
I definitely put in for the Dream home in Texas, it’s crazy how this popped up.
Or rent it for vacationers
Mz Mika💋 a lot of neighborhoods don’t allow any kind of renting
@@chriss7172 Minneapolis is full or Airbnb's even in that neighborhood.
That’s insane. The government likes to take my bonus at work too...seems like they need to let us win when we can
That's why you never see them show up at a single wide trailer in a mobile home park.
The people that already have nice homes is were they show up.
Why don't they do one for tiny houses?
The tax burden is to large especially considering what little we get for it. There should be exemptions for poor people who win homes.
I'm sure you're right, but how can a tax be 42% of the winnings? Damn Uncle Sam 🇺🇸
Jen Drives A Jeep it’s a gift of more than $1 million, I’m sure you can work with your financial team to cushion the blow but that’s a lot of money to get in one fell swoop.
It would depend on the state and the county where the property is located...but uncle sam still takes a lot of any type of income or property....
Jen Drives A Jeep, The government will steal as much as it can from you, and if you don't pay up, you'll probably end up in one of the government's cages\ prisons.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Jen Drives A Jeep seems Uncle Sam got a bit greedy
I would definitely take the cash and buy a smaller house!!!
I pretty much new this already and this is true with any contest giveaway ! And it won't keep me from entering !
Add to that if you’re even related or know somebody that works for one of the sponsors you can’t enter. My husband works for one of the sponsors and even our grown children and our friends that aren’t even related to us cannot enter.
I have often wondered if it would be financially worthwhile to immediately place the home as a vacation rental property.
I would take the cash prize. Besides the fees the houses are in the middle of no where which would make the cash prize easier to get than selling the house.
HGTV also makes money off those houses. When one was loc as Ted in NC I remember they had a home tour that if I remember cost $50 to tour the home.
It was the same when my husband and I toured a Southern Living Idea Home years ago. There was a fee to tour the house.
So true. Granddaughter building in Texas and watching here gets ideas.
Besides all the initial taxes from the winning, there are property taxes to pay, utilities and upkeep, insurance, etc...
And the bills for those houses are cast-iron guaranteed to be in the $10,000s per month! So financially, the HGTV "dream" home ends up being a nightmare!
I get that many sell the homes to pay off the tax burden, but I was wondering if the furnishings you can take back to your own home, or the many TVs, electronics, ect.?
good question
Will oc you can but you would receive less money for the house
Either take the money or use it as rental property or luxury Airbnb
Yup I enter almost every year and nothing. I wonder how they really pick the winners.
You’re right Nicki, taxation is theft.
A particularly sinister kind of theft, extortion!
I help build one in Manhatten, Kansas. So yeah, I got offered a permanent job... Who wants to live in Kansas??
Storm chasers?
I have always planned to just take the lower cash option. What if you can't sell the pricey house and then you are screwed.
Won't be a problem if it's a nice place in a good area. And priced well.
My mom tried every time to win the house lol. But we decided to just build it ourselves
There’s always a catch
Sell sell sell
What if it doesnt sell like that one out in the middle of a marsh? Scary debt.
Ha! That little lady at the very end was adorably sweet! How precious and cute!
I register to try to win one of these homes. If I did, I would resell.
I've been entering twice daily. I would prefer the total cash value and after taxes I would build my own home close to my daughters.
I wish I won one of these houses
I’ll just take the money, save myself from paying 700k tax, and fully pay off a $500k-800k town house or condo
Well I know this is old but if you happened to be entering as a minor you obviously couldn’t enter
I want to win and get the cash buy out. It’s be so nice to pay off student loans & buy a home closer to where I live now.
I've entered twice a day online for the last and most recent sweepstakes and of course I probably didn't win, but I got my fingers crossed 🤞
Wow!! I didn't know taxes would be so much, almost the same as the prize damn!! Government takes everything from us... If the winner decide to take the cash, how much would they be taking?
Who don't know this already😏!!!! I already told mysef, if I won, I would sell the house... 😉
Glad yall giving us, that r entering, this info though. 👍🏽
Ever since they list designer Linda, I haven't liked the homes as much. Her designs made the home! I'll still take it though hehehe
LOVELY JUST LOVELY 😊 I LOOK FORWARD TO WINNING THE HOME
Take the money and 🏃🏾♂️🏃🏽♀️💨💨!!!
THAT BASTARD AIN'T MY UNCLE!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That was funny as he//
🤣🤣🤣
Wonder exactly how much all of the fees and taxes are together and how long you can own it before owing all of that money??? If it has to be paid immediately how could anyone afford 700,000 or more with taxes and such???? Wow
I decorated my bedroom this year, based on many of the ideas from the 2021 Dream Home.
Thank you Nicki! That was very informative.
You can take the cash and car but you still have to pay taxes on those as well. You would probably walk away with roughly $500k
That's enough for me
I still enter every day!
Very good video to watch. You are very good at investigating journalism.
As a renter living in a tiny apartment with no backyard, I try for the HGTV homes.. I loved the one in New Mexico.. Somebody else who is not me won it..I just would like a bigger place with a backyard and some of the amenities I don't currently have..
Not luxuries, just washer, dryer and dishwasher..and a grocery store close enough to walk to.a
🎶 Take the money and run, like a thief across your neighbors yard... Take the 💵 and 🏃 🎶
I wanted the gig harbor house but I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep it.
Always take the Cash ARV payout never take the home.. The tax liability is way too much.
I would move in and create a monetized you tube channel about my experience. I would also have it listed on Airbnb or do a Bed and Breakfast to help pay for the cost. You could also sell the more expensive appliances, furniture, art work and replace them high quality thrift store purchases!
Nicki Swift, I have
entered a couple times No wins. But that's ALOT of money to give Auncle Sam
😬 to live in those
Gorgeous Breath taking Homes.
💰💰💰🚘🏘️🏚️🏠.
Happy New year 2019.
I think they should make the houses for a person who can pay the taxes. a rich person is not going to enter those contests, I say. We only enter what we really need or want money in cash. HGTV should think that the contestant can actually pay. They can make comfortable and not so expensive houses.
Now I’ll now how to handle this situation when I win.
I do enter twice a day everyday and have been doing so for at least ten years.
Are these contests fixed, like most other giveaways?
That’s why you take the cash option
Take the cash girl💰😀
I figured it was bs behind it! I don’t even bother to enter anymore!
Wow!!! As an avid follower, I was saddened to hear these secrets. I find it hard to believe that all my dreams of winning would be a pure nightmare!....thanks for the bad news about something i loved and looked up to so much!😒🙄😞😞😞
