    “ If you know many people have no food ( can’t eat ), the people who are sick can’t see a doctor, people can’t have education “. How can you feel OK with it “.... I love this statement of the last lady in this video. I wish the world would think like her. We might achieve PEACE in this planet.

      After reading your post several times R.D. I just had to write back. My ancestors are Scottish. Both sides of the family. We were the one's who invented Golf. Considering the weather in Scotland, go figure. Golf is an acronym. It stands for gentlemen only ladies forbidden. I guess the LPGA sort of told us what we could do with our gentlemen only game. I know their members would kick my ass on any course.

      January 21, 2017: women's march on Washington to protest the inauguration of Trump. How many of them said three months earlier, "I'm not voting for THAT woman?" So more white women voted for Trump than Hillary. Whatever happened after that march? More white women voted for Trump than Biden in 2020.

    I started to say "I wish" our country was like this. What I should say is, "How can I help make our" country like this? It is time to stop wishing and hoping for the best. It is time to take action. If I don't take a step toward helping to build a better country, what right do I have to bitch when things go wrong. The first, and easiest, step I can take is to VOTE. Also, I can protest (peacefully) and let my elected officials know how I feel. I can get other people registered to vote. I can take them with me when I go to the polls. Women need to show the world how things should be done.

      The ‘peacefully’ part is where every new “movement” fails, and will always fail. All authority is derived from one single baseline source: physical force. Most of us may not want this to be the truth, yet it is the reality we continue to live in. It will never change, even if we wished it would. And this is how those in power have always been in power and will always continue to be in power: because no one else is willing to rise up and fight to take it. Go ahead and take the the high road, feel better about yourselves for being morally righteous and champions of peace. Just accept then that you will always be dominated and subjugated.

    • @icevet
      @icevet 2 роки тому

      @@Kuato You're wrong. You only think this because you are an angry and violent person yourself and therefore you assume that all the people in power are like that too. The women of Iceland did not get equality by using physical force. The first female president in the world didn't get elected by using physical force. We have a place for people like you, they belong in jail while the rest of us build a civilised society where people don't get their way by using physical force.

    I will be sharing far and wide. This documentary is beautifully made and, sadly, the comments about America resonate today - seven years after the documentary was made. The only way to change our dynamic is to VOTE in every local, state and federal election. Get involved. Know your candidates - what she/he stands for and how they plan to achieve their goals. Vote for the woman or man who best reflects your values; for a person with integrity and a true desire to make America a better place for ALL our citizens.

    I am an American. I am deeply concerned about the hierarchy of male domination in this country. My experience in life has led me to seek therapy. Fortunately, I was able to meet up with a Narrative Therapist who sees me and all his clients as "Experts" on ourselves. Because of my wounds from babyhood and childhood and as a teenager, I will never make it to the ranks of being a leader, as some women have. However, I have learned a lot, I believe in myself and my acquired wisdom. I am now dedicating my life to support, by listening and validation, all women who paths cross with mine. I am a work in progress. Seeing this clip really inspired me. In 1975 I was dealing with other things and unfortunately, did not know about the strike in Iceland. I will do what I can from where I can, and look forward to seeing, somehow, this movie when it comes out. Thank you for being you. I appreciate you

    I wonder what the influence of their past as Vikings has made on them. It’s a tough environment to survive in
    And perhaps historically women always had more influence than the men. ( outside of the 20th century). Another case of why one cannot really expect the U.S. to make changes and be more like Iceland .again thanks a million to Michael Moore for posting this again!!!

    Protesting worked in Iceland because Iceland is a democracy.
    The Water Protectors lost limbs and are being charged as terrorists because the American government believes that protesting should be swiftly and severely punished.
    By contrast, the coup participants were not arrested until months later, most of their sentences were extremely light (months in jail), and many of them (including the leaders) have yet to be arrested at all.
    Let this be a lesson to everyone.
    Do not protest for abortion rights because that will only get you beaten and charged with serious crimes. Instead, your response to the loss of aboriton rights should be to overthrow the government, because the government considers that a lesser crime than protesting.

    What I noticed watching this is that at no point was religion mentioned. This matters because the United States was founded by religious leaders where the Bible ( written by men btw ) had influence on every day life including the writing of the constitution. As time has moved on from our founding fathers ( again a term frequently used reinforcing in the mind a male dominated society ) some equality has been made BUT nearly everywhere you go in the states religion is forefront in thoughts,feelings, JUDGEMENTS of others etc. Combine this with a mostly male dominated testosterone capitalistic society and there appears to be more in common with the highly religious male dominated and suppressed women country of Afghanistan than with Iceland.

      It's funny that Iceland is one of the few countries in the world that has a state church (christian lutheran/protestant) but in practice we have separation of church and state and religious fanaticism is rare.

    I love that last bit. I don't understand how people can be okay with "I've got mine. Forget everyone else. Let them figure it out." with a list of "reasons" why others can't achieve the "American Dream", like lazy, wasteful, etc
    Women going on strike would be excellent, except there would be too many children or elders left without care. There has to be common decency and human feeling for something like that to work.
    Is there enough left?

    • @NeptunesHorses5909
      @NeptunesHorses5909 2 роки тому +4

      I think women on strike would take children with them or coordinate care, ditto for dependent elderly. Or all the men would have to leave their workplace to do it -- that option works effectively too.

    • @paulineprojectlove
      @paulineprojectlove 2 роки тому +5

      women on strike get to be with their children. In Charlotte Perkins Gilman's book, Herland, a society of women work and raise their children with them at their sides. No men needed.

    I would love to see many more women in positions of power and leadership. It could only help our society improve our odds of creating a happier and healthier society even though I think the US has many women who would govern just as poorly as men. All you have to do is look to congress and the Supreme Court to see how the right leaning women govern. I the the people of Iceland are different in their bones from us. The lone eagle mentality doesn't bode well for creating harmonious, cooperative and loving societies. The American way is not the best way in most things any more.
