The homestead is up and operational! You've got seeds in the ground and trees have been planted. Not to forget the chickens! All in the first 4 weeks plus all the work You've accomplished on rebuilding the mobile home, well, chicken coop and more. Anytime you think things are moving along slowly, just think about what you HAVE done!
If you will water it every day for two weeks and then go every other day for two weeks and then twice a week through the remaining portion of the summer it will live

Good afternoon to the HOLLARS from Florida, when those purple peppers grow you will be able to " PICK-A-POUND- OF PURPLE- PEPPERS- TO PICKLE- PERFECTLY " say that 5 times. Good luck on the tree planting.
What a difference in color between the compost and your red clay soil! Good you were able to get organic. The mower has opened up your fields nicely. The heated up soil should help your corn reach maturity. I do envy the length of your growing season VS New Hampshire. Now we have you temperatures '-) May reach 100F this weekend here. It is even too hot to hay. 4,400 bales so far... Bakers Creek was generous and I feel you should receive support from others who want to see you succeed. Jim and I are both over 60 and reaping the benefits of living off the land. Plenty of wood for winter stoves. Organic veggies and our grass fed beef in the freezer. Life is good :-)

Yes, silly story: Farmer phoned the radio station to tell them what great programming they had. He went on to say how after he started playing his radio in the barn, he is getting more milk, and his cows are looking fatter. The only thing he can say caused it, might be the corn coming over the air.
If your town has a fish market or your local grocery store also, I would get in good with them and see if you could collect there fish guts for your garden. It really works wonders. Good luck Hollar family.

Looks like we just had a good soaking rain to help cool things off and get the veggies growing. I've not read any suggestions for ground hog control. Fencing in your new garden from deer and hungry critters is necessary. Great job 👍!
Yes, farm dogs. You will need a good stock dog, and a terrier type. My son-in-law, an African, tells the story of how they hunt lions. He said they would chase the lion into his den, with the big Rhodesian Ridgeback hounds, and then pull out the Jack Russell terriers, who are so ferociously fool hardy, that they go into the den after the lion.
Just a tip on the corn (as we grow an acre of sweet corn alone each year), It's best to plant in multiple side/side rows forming a sort of square field vs in a row. You'll notice a HUGE difference in the size of the corn and the health the farther towards the center you get. They create their own microclimate and work off each other. It's also a wind pollinator so it greatly increases your yield. Love your videos, you guys are doing great!!
Great idea to plant one tree for each child. Back in 1962 my folks did the same thing in our backyard. Though we haven't lived there since 1968, I still drive by anytime I'm in Chicago just to see them. They're HUGE!
Meg I love how careful you are planting your seeds. I just love it I feel the same way! Just get it in the ground , just get the chickens composting. Get the trees planted today. Let do it it won’t plant itself. 😆 Live in the now live the dream!
Zucchini relish is the best! We planted a fig tree in a washing machine tub sunk into the ground to contain the roots and size of the tree so it’s easier to harvest. Also, it’s next to the house at the L intersection for protection from winter weather which can freeze the tips of branches, even in fairly mild Portland Oregon. We have a small town lot so space is limited, you might prefer a huge fig tree for the shade aspect. Blessings.
I just realized how cool it will be for Buggy and the new baby to watch these videos when they are in their teens or early twenties...or whenever they choose. especially the ones from the first few years the pre-travel and travel vlogs.

I moved a small fir tree ,when I dug it up I ended up with a bare root. I have watered it and we've had a lot of rain and that tree is still surviving living through this summer. Because it was bare-root I didn't expect it to live. it was probably as tall as your little tree is. Keep it watered really well and who knows it might just make it mine is so far.
