Hey Scotty, I have a 2018 Honda Accord lx with 13,000 miles that suffers from oil dilution which we all know about the earth dreams engine. Another thing that isn't talked about as much but is still a common issue is the rear camshaft seals were very poorly made. Mine leaks a bit of oil and if you search up the issue you can find that it is actually quite common. I just figured I would mention it incase you want another example of how poor Honda's quality has become.

So if you work the gearbox like a racing driver you outperform anyone with an ordinary car but if you're not very good at driving a manual or have an automatic you won't get anything good out of it.

How stupid do you have to be to expect a modern car loaded with tech and security features and a beefy engine to be same as reliable as a 70s car...
Of course there are things breaking more often if you have twice the tech.
And if course it is easier to repair a head gasket on a 6.2l 90 Horsepower gas hog than on a 1.6 Turbo with 180hp.

I had one for 16 years. The first year. White with black. I got 250,000 miles on the original clutch which was still working when I sold it to a friend. One replaced timing belt, one replaced water pump. Three tops. I replaced the radiator as the plastic one was useless in the Gulf Coast heat.
The wiring was starting to get quirky.
Plastic window was much larger. Loved the simple manual top. Best top I ever had. Sure beat the MGB, 325ic, old Jag. It was similar to the 70s Fiat Spider top.

If you run in the winter, you must get winter tires all corners. The LSD helps a lot. I ran 3 winters with my NB (2nd gen) with winter tires mounted on narrower (better for snow) plain steel wheels (easier to swap seasonally). Never got stuck.

Pretty convincing Scotty. I've been meaning to get a weekend track car. Been a lotta years since i've been on a track. Now that i'm retired i wanna put my old skills to work. 2001 is exactly the year i was thinking of. The se model with Bilsteins and an LSD. (Long time since i've had any LSD too. Lol) Lookin forward to breaking out my tools and making this happen. Summer car only. I'm in Montreal Canada, Brrrrrrrr!

Snatched a 2000 Miata Special Edition a year ago with 97k miles for $3,500. It had well over $1,000 in tastful upgrades such as leather seat covers, top tier roll bar, touch screen radio, keyless entry, K&N air filter, floor mats, Miata sun reflector, and a new top with with glass and defroster. I’ve had a fuel pump fail and now what I believe is a blown head gasket or stuck valve. I don’t mind working on it. It’s an amazing car and well worth it’s value!

This is in the Seattle metro area, although the Jeep was out in the peninsula (about 90 miles west of Seattle). Seller had 48 calls on his Jeep within three days. Sold for $4200. I owned a 2002 Miata since new. Was my daily driver for 17 years and loved it the whole time. Daily driving where I live (Maryland) means salted roads in winter, so rust finally took it. But great, dependable, fun car.
Tip: I think the current (2019+) Miata's will become known as the best Miata's ever. They did all they could to lighten it up, and the engine change in 2019 was just what that model needed.

Smart review, Scotty! Yes, you should absolutely buy one. I have a '97 and it is so much fun to drive. The first gen (NA) had plastic vinyl back windows, but the second generation (NB) had glass rear windows and that one there even has the rear defroster lines in it. I retrofitted an NB top with glass window / defroster into my older NA model, and it works like a champ! I have a video on my channel if anyone cares to see that job. But yeah...overall great cars!

We bought a 94 Miata M Edition almost 10 years ago. We got it with 75K miles, it now has over 150K. We paid $4k for it, cheapest car I've ever bought, yet the best $4000 we've ever spent on a car. Stuff breaks occasionally (it's a 26 YO car!), but parts and repairs are relatively inexpensive. Great value, great fun.

Noticing the seats. In the late 60s/early 70s (and maybe still to this day) Mercedes had some sort of material called MB Tex. It looked like vinyl, it felt like vinyl except it didn't get hard when it was cold. But it wore like tungsten carbide. You can still find ones from the 1960s/1970s with the original seats with no cracks or even visible wear. I bet the optional leather ones didn't hold up that well. I wonder if any of the Japanese brands figured out the secret to forever-vinyl. I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

I got a 2002 Toyota Camry 2.4L cylinder. The car starts at about 1,800-2000RPM, a high rpm for start up and then 5 minutes later goes back to around 800-1000RPM. Why is this happening? 2004-'06 might be better. Read the Owners' Club on line. In general they're really great cars but engine repairs are very expensive. That's old and seals might tend to leak. If you're willing to put up with those minor things and your mechanic checks it out, etc. and price is right, consider it strongly. Be sure the timing belt, etc. have been done on schedule. I have a '98 LS400

I used to autocross one of these. It was a real hoot. Handled like an Austin Healy Sprite with oversteer. The Miata was styled after the Lotus Elite. All the ratios are from the Lotus. The top was extremely easy to put up and down - one handed. The optional hard top was a very good investment, especially in the winter in northern VA.
