- First i did this edit by lookin up for the best bassless spots and stringin 'em together in the smoothest possible way then i just started jammin on it and recorded myself (that's the 3rd take actually)
BASS into BSS AR133 DI into M AUDIO FAST TRACK MK2 to LOGIC
keep coming back here regularly since like 2013. It is a shame this video only has like 25k views. One of the best bass grooves on UA-cam for sure.
Waves of love
This dude plays most of my favs songs.
same for me and he also got excellent feel for the groove
duuuude!!! you're killing it smooth! Thanks for the inspiration. I should listen to the holy grail of groove more often.
Thanks man, appreciate it !!!
Love that way of play bass...
I hope to play like this one day...
i need to practice much more...
Pino Palladino is one of the best
Been loving GregF for years! His time feel is insane!!
Glad you like it bro, thanks for the nice message, hope you're doing good overseas!
@@GregF71 Hey Greg, thank for the reply. Well wishes back to you and yours!!
drinking my morning coffe...enjoying the hell out of this!
Man you remind me so much of a mix between Leonard Hubbard and one of Dilla's programmed bass lines... Both in the best way possible. This is ridiculously dope. The beats you make for these are incredible too!
Dude, I could listen to this loop forever :0 came through with that solid bass groove
man you just made my drink so enjoyable !!! you're fire on that bass !@! cheers
Holy ****, Greg F. This is literally the smoothest ish on the planet earth.
WOW! What a really excellent spin on this gem of a song. I like how you chopped it up its like a remix. Great bass playing as well.
Wow, i've been following you for just a couple weeks and haven't seen all of your tracks yet. But this is amazing! Great Pino influences, right ánd left hand, but you are totally nailing it! And beautiful how you slide in the 'so what' line at the end of it. This is hardcore bass playing man.
3:54 you play a 'so what' excerpt, at least to my ears. It's not the exact line, but it definitely has the sound/feel. I figured it might have come from somewhere inside you're musical repertoire and just punch out at the right moment ;)
Awesome Dude, Insane Vibe you got goin.
great fills and soulful as usual..
Greatings from Phoenix, Arizona.
thanks for lessons.
Mate, you are an absolute champion. Just subscribed.
bro you are awesome!
It's always a pleasure listening to your bassline ideas.
Cheers!
edthewave
This is sweet az! i downloaded this on my iPhone just to listen to it.
This is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
That chop is somethin serious man...that's dope
Khadir M hey! Glad you like it; actually i'm totally depending on what's available in the track: i just search for all the bassless spots and then try to string 'em together in a musical way; sometimes i fail, other times it comes up pretty well like here :)
Standard NYC Sadowsky (swamp ash body, maple neck and Di Marzio Ultra Jazz pickups) i've been using it in passive mode exclusively since 2004
thanks for the nice words, peace.
I'm just now discovering your videos.
thanks bro :) i don't do it on purpose: i only pick up what i can to come up with bassless beats that have the sound and the groove of the track; it always ends up kinda randomly (here for instance, if i played the original bassline, it wouldn't even work;that's why i often come with my "own" lines)
this is incredibleeeeee
I'm so inlove with your style, and we can't even see your face lol! You are AWESOME!
You championed this song. What model bass is that, if you know?
Man tu es incroyable !!👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Content que ça te plaise (je pense que c'est ma meilleure vidéo celle là ;)
Amazing !!!
Very nice!!!
Love this jam❤️
That is some hard effin work making something so funky look so effortless! Hey man, I am going to want that second installment soon! I've been pretty busy with the art world, but I did take that first lesson (notes of the bass) seriously! Jeremy
Excellent man... Un jour, j'aurai ton niveau... Si si...
dam man ive watch this vid many time just notice those harmonic you hit @ 1:16 DAM!
Hi, Can you recommend me some neo soul albums on which pino paladino plays? I'm a keyboard player, but really like his style.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wow! Great as always.
Just fun to see you from another angle or something I guess! But do what you do man :) this is impressive work
This is miraculous
Hi Greg. Is this in GMaj? G-D-E Cadenz?
Very Nice your playing. Love that fills and i search so Long Time for that notes, to get in my playing.
Thank you
Bas Sista hi! the chords are Am7 and Em7 (so yes it's in G Maj eventhough i don't play a G chord) have fun, peace
That's hot cat.
Très bien! As always Greg! :) And the HD vid is great.
Hahaha, it definitely shows! Keep it up.
any brand of flatwounds or really old roundwounds (gauges would depend on the tuning i'd be using but in standard tuning i use 100/40 or 105/45)
So dopppe mann
i plug in a bss ar-133 di box that goes in a m-audio fast track mk2, then i record with logic pro 9 and shoot at the same time with a sony dsc-hx9v. Finally, i synchronise audio and video in imovie.
Could you elaborate on the tuning you do for these thick hip hop grooves?
This one is in standard tuning (EADG) but i also use DGCF or C#F#BE
Hello Greg !
i m already a big fan of all your videos and the technique you use (I m also so much influenced by Pino actually). I d just like to ask you if you could give me some tipps and notices to develop this technique with the thumb.
Thank you !
Greetings from Morocco.
hey Kamil, actually i've no particular tips about technique other than "just pluck the strings with your thumb"
this is not about fingers but about ears, listen carefully and learn stuff, not only basslines but anything, and eventually, you'll hear things naturally, without thinking...be patient though cause it might take a while ;) peace
Amazing groove bro ✌️🎸😎 song name pls
funk that soul thiss is a vibration. really want to learn bass. how old where u when u started ?
First time i ever touch a bass was around 18 when i started out on gtr and played in a band but i really went into it around 30 (i'm 44 now)
1:11 yea buddy!
That 'So What?' quote at 3:55 is so hot.
Dude! Soooooooo smooooth, channeling Pino. Have you ever considered making videos where we can see you? would be nice!
Love the looping, sounds sick..kanye should remix it like he used to
Smooth. Nice ideas. Especially 3:52-3:57. Now if you don't mind I'm gonna put on a D´Angelo track and keep on groovin´. Peace out
I've been trying to figure out what kind of 'main' bass fill you were playing and i was wondering if your bass was tuned down half a step... Would love for your feedback, anyways this is awesome and i keep coming back!
GilGaming Hofman hey dude, this is in standard tuning
Damn this is tight as hell bro
Noob bassist on/off for years and never properly practiced
Any recommendations on how to do it right? Working on timing etc (I do use a metronome), scales to learn, songs to try
Thanks dude glad you dig it cause i believe this is my best upload :)
Well i guess it's all about passion in the end: i've never worked on timing w/a click for instance but i basically dedicated 2 decades of my life spending time on guitar, bass, keys, samplers, programming, composing, producing, learning, practicing, rehearsing, gigging, jamming and investigating pretty much every single music related thing; I know this is gonna sound cliché af but just follow your instinct and you should figure out what to do.
Besides, pretty much everything there is to learn and/or to be inspired by, is available on line for free, out there on YT for instance. This is an incredible source of knowledge, almost infinite cause it still grows: have a look at what it can lead to: ua-cam.com/video/2oZsIlthHi8/v-deo.html i mean come on ! this is mind boggling !!!
Also don't forget to have fun, that's crucial :) peace from France man
Greg F aha nice, I’m 2 years in on the same journey ;) peace bro
