I feel like random crits, by their very nature are random, so you wouldn't really notice too much if they were gone, but you will DEFINITELY notice them if they happen

Yeah I don’t notice not having random crits on weapons with no random crits. I probably just think I was unlucky and didn’t get a crit, not realizing that this weapon doesn’t have random crits.

12:47 thats an weapon for scout, probably one of his best imo. it gives scout a ball which you can throw which explodes into shards giving bleed damage, and deals damage on direct hit. but hitting someone with the bat deals like 10 damage.

the wrapping paper and bauble are a melee for scout called the wrap assassin. it deals reduced damage in exchange for a projectile that inflicts bleed

And is an offshoot of the Sandman, which was actually originally broken and sorta "unfun." Since it used to actually put a Stunning effect on you if the ball hit center mass. Now it just slows the target down when hit with the ball.

That Scout melee is the "Wrap Assassin", easily one of the Scout's best melee Scouts, the channel FishStickOnAStick has a amazingly good video about it and it shows how good the weapon really is.

Stopwatch mode is a competitive feature that was introduced into casual for a short time in 2016 when the matchmaking was introduced and then removed.
In addition to the regular countdown timer, it measured the time it took the first attacking team to either win or capture a certain amount of points before the regular timer ran out. If the enemy team during their turn at attacking managed to catch up to your score from the previous round under that amount of time, they would win by technicality, or if they didn't, the the game ended there as well without allowing overtime. And there was a clear winner rather than just making both teams play until the end of the map with no proper team score measurements.

I used to not mind random crits, but as I play tf2 more and more I started to realize just how annoying they are. The entire reason I play tf2 is for the strategy elements, and so having a strategy that's guaranteed to work otherwise get stopped by random chance it doesn't feel fun. It's also not fun to just instantly kill someone due to a random crit. Melee crits aren't as bad though - I do genuinely think that random crits are more fair and balanced on melees.

9:15 1/14/2014 was my starting date, as a heavy main I despise random crits, Heavy's 300 health doesn't feel like much when rng is a thing. Nothing is worse when I have a dingus scout run at me with a fish and kill me because of random crits. And even worse I hate getting them myself, what's the point of my increasing skill if it's knee capped by a random mechanic?
Obviously, people will call me tryhard which I'm not, if I was, I would've gone to comp already but knowing that situation I'm not inclined to suffer there.
Also, since you're watching this video about rng then a perfect follow up video is Zesty Jesus' video on Why the Battalion's Backup is the best weapon in TF2. Here's a link for it

I am glad Dane made this video as exciting or entertaining to look at as it is, to me it is re-watchable from that alone but the 'Random Crits' debate to this day i feel he could've done a far better job on this because it feels one-sided in a way because as someone who says 'I think I've heard it all' there is a single one 'Pro' to keep it random crits he provides in his video when there's more than one Pro, not sure is as many to not keep them but definitely the '5 Years from now there will be an entire generation of TF2 players who will cite competitive mode as a reason why they started to play the game in the first place'' thing is pretty silly which is hilarious because it's been 5 years and as far as i am aware such thing doesn't exist due to various reasons but the official Comp not being really good, there are a lot of bots tho
but i can't be too upset because he comes from a place that was hopeful that Valve would push for adding more incentives to try out competitive mode but they haven't tried at all ever since Jungle Inferno and i am no longer in the camp of even wanting to try it again even outside officially, i rather get new weapons and more improvement updates to the general game along with fixing the cheating problem at least in some way, no hard feelings for him making this video because it's still pretty entertaining to watch.
(Been playing since 2011 & I don't mind Random Crits staying in Casual)

9:17 I was not around since launch, but I remember my first time booting up the game was in 2011, I got confused and never booted it up again. Through around 2014, I decided to try it again since I was a bit older and learned that It was made by the devs of my then-favorite game, portal 2. That's when it sunk its claws into me. 2014 was the beginning of the end for a lot of tf2 players before me (end of the line, the big update that year, was a letdown, and most updates that followed besides jungle inferno were almost unanimously panned) so to think that somehow I am still playing this stupid lil thing and still learning more and more about it, gives me mixed feelings.
TF2 is probably in the second worst state it has ever been in right now, and yet I'm still here playing it after 10 years. It isn't sunken cost fallacy (I could sell all my items and walk away with $200 cash in my pockets), or lack of choice (so many games, so little playtime in most), and with every day, I find something to nitpick about this game, and it makes me think more and more about the potential tf2 could've had as a competitive game, or the missteps in artistic direction, or whatever. But i'm still playing, and I don't fully understand why, I don't know how but I do know I still love it to this day and I will probably be here until this thing is on its last leg.
Heres to 10 more I suppose lol. Gotta keep my crippling addiction going :)
Oh, and on random crits, since TF2 is still one of the few games out there that let players host their own servers (also fun fact, tf2 didn't have official servers hosted by Valve until 2016) I think the issue has kinda solved itself over time. If you like it, go to a server with them, if you don't go to a server without. If you're on the fence, go to a server that lets the players in that server vote for it (the skial servers you play on alot have vote toggle crits as a feature, as well as all-talk and team scrambling!)
If I were to look at it like it was a situation where I was the guy pressing the button to globally change how the game plays though, I would personally turn them off for all weapons, besides stock melees. The reason I say stock melees, is if you remember my ramblings about utility melees a few videos ago, and understand how janky tf2s melee detection is, you could see that there is almost no reason to use stock melees (besides spy and engie), so giving them an ability to randomly do 180 damage could actually be a good way to get people to use stock again, by trading out the reliability of things like the escape plan, powerjack, etc, for a tip-of-the-hat chance to just insta-delete someone from the game. But thats just my thoughts :P
11:41 spells. I miss spells a LOT. They were a bit before my time, but they were a random drop item for a single halloween season that you could apply to cosmetics (or sometimes weapons!) that gave them random effects when halloween or a full moon was present. Some of them are little, like spectral ghosts appearing when you kill someone, or trailing footprints that lead behind you, all the way up to wacky things like making your flamethrower spout green fire or pitch-shifting you voice to an extreme degree.
While the actual "spell" item itself is all but gone, all items that have spells attached to them still remain. In fact, I have a friend that has a green fire phlogistinator (which is technically a bugged item, because the phlog is supposed to have its own particle effect, but the green fire negates it and makes it look like its shooting normal flamethrower flames. It's a really neat-looking thing.) and I personally have a spectral ghosts bat. So if you ever run into anyone that sounds like the swallowed helium or looks like a flashing traffic cone, check out their items, and I bet they will have a spell on it.

Went from only community servers, to get flooded with new inexperianced players with people and communities used to playing together failed to get into their own servers.
I see were the anger comes from, would have been pissed myself. I do not agree with the methods, I see why it was done.
Valve servers to compliment the community servers were needed to handle the sudden influx.
When I started playing, community servers seemed very much okay with f2p, try to keep in mind the servers own rules, and it shuld go fine.
After matchmaking, they really became okay with them.

Random crits happens at random. If your gun firing noise sounds different, if your bullets look like lasers, if your projectiles have extra effects and particles on them, if your melee does an alternate animation, and it all does MONSTROUS damage, especially out of nowhere? Random crit.

How fast the attacking team captured a point becomes what the defending team needs to or atleast match to continue the map, which can be less time than what normaly would have been.
If not, second round ends, and with how casual was set up, match ends, no rematch, no map vote, server closed, back to searching new match, not being able to do anything else while searching, but clicking that darn coin.
Was not a fan of casual getting stopwatch.
Was not a fan of the match making, got me to bunker down in the vanilla community server I played on back in the day.

Random crits are overhated in my opinion, and I will die on this hill. They shouldn't be in competitive, and they are not. Other than that random crits make a good portion of TF2 humour, and I can't imagine how different the game would be if they never existed. Just the "Random crits are fair and balanced" joke alone is one of the most quotable things from TF2 fandom
And that's also the reason why I dislike Uncletopia, it always has random crits disabled (excluding other reasons like one hundred servers that it has, which just always doubles your community servers scrolling time; and it having the terrible ping for me all the time :'( ). People also say that Uncletopia servers are filled with toxic tryhards, but I can't really confirm that
