I worked at The Arts Council England around 18 years ago and ‘diversity’ was their no.1 buzzword. I think anyone who has a preoccupation with diversity and are hyper aware of it, ultimately has the problem.
People who focus on this are simply lazy talentless hacks. They offer nothing to society and to make themselves feel "special" they take on this faux virtue.
The Arts Council in Wales is the same, and they force their values onto artists. So you have to keep regurgitating the same waffle to get the funding. I'm disabled but don't "identify as disabled". Could I put a little spin on my work to make it about disability? No! Because I'm an adult with the same range of interests in the world as an able bodied person. Preoccupation and self-consciousness don't inspire interesting art. Thirty years ago, we would have described this as okay for sixth form students ... but not serious or engaging enough to deserve funding. Arts Council Wales ask all artists to make a statement about what the Welsh language means to them. Truthfully, I don't get many opportunities to speak Welsh, but that's not what they want to hear. They also flat out refuse to fund anyone who wants to make work about "Class". We're in the Valleys! We're not allowed to use art to explain to our children and grandchildren which exploited demographic actually built everything, as far as the eye can see.
The NHS shouldn't have to rely on charities anyway. They have a huge budget. My local hospital likes to spend theirs on things like painting their pedestrian crossing as rainbow flags.

Meanwhile, a Senior Biomedical Scientist, responsible for conducting vital tests to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, is only pulling in a paltry £44,000 a year. The lucky DEI hire will be tasked with crafting “inclusive” leadership and services. The position offers a generous array of benefits, such as the option to work from home as desired and a 42% discount on a new bike for those who prefer cycling to the office.

First, many university professors and researchers use funding as an opportunity to take free holidays, gain promotions, a sabbatical (not working) and build networks centred around their egos and pride. In most fields, you must often align yourself with prominent researchers and do free work for them. Only then may you join their circles and secure funding. However, if you oppose their ideas, you risk being ostracised and never receiving promotions. Sabine, a physicist, critiques modern research trends quite effectively. She points out that much of the research today could be more worthwhile.
Because the system incentivizes research. If they don't do some type of research, then they lose their funding quota. I don't agree with their intentions, but if they don't do research, then they lose funding. Obviously, many professors take advantage of the system.
Can't someone in the UK sue the government for damages? As in "you're taking my money for pensions and healthcare and then it doesn't go to pensions or healthcare"? Any lawyers in the chat?

This is immoral. I don’t use that word often but when so many people struggle to pay tax, and that tax money is desperately needed in so many areas, some of which Francis raised, it’s immoral and morally corrupt to fund these ‘projects’.
The only thing that honestly makes very simple sense to me around all of this is, it's basically just LARGE groups of people just making things up to get money without actually working. When I was going to college, it was INFESTED with people doing this sort of stuff. They sit there and fill out papers with stupid ideas and really believe they solved all the world's problems and deserve unlimited money for their stunning intellect and one-of-a-kind work ethic.
This is absolutely the case, the other part of it is that governments for the last 80 odd years have embraced 'modern monetary theory' which has given elite bankers and their friends access to unlimited money which they print and give out to their friends, while putting it on our tab for the future. If money was limited then there would have to be some accountability and return but since we are now being gas-lit into believing that "government debt is fine its not the same as people debt, we are just managing the economy and creating jobs" there is no accountability. This money flows down to these type of people and institutions while national debt across the west balloons out of control and the people that benefit the most are the ones who have no principles and go along with bs and unsustainable practises for their own benefit at a cost to everyone else.
I think it's time the British people audit the government so we can see where and what our tax money is going to. Then we should fire these people who miss manage our money. And hold the government accountable for its actions. Also the public should have a say in what and where our money should go.
This is the best intervju you have done! I can see the very same thing happening in Sweden. Ex. We have a scientist whom studies fish. He had to explain how genderstudies was woven in to his studies of fish.
A Scandalous waste of money. I guarantee the majority of voters do not agree with this misuse of funds. The got to use up the budget or loose it mentality is a sickness even in the corporate world. 😢
@@FavenslyShop-b2s I don't believe that it is 'corruption' in the traditional sense of corruption, malfeasance, fraud and dishonesty, although some of that (inevitably) still takes place because, well, human nature. THAT is the reason she's just as bad as those she writes about. Both she and those aloof artists and academics are fine with stepping into their silos and letting their ideas spiral out of the realm of reason.

A researcher came to lecture us on her thesis - for which she got 50k - where she argued that a specific piece by Beethoven was a "musical rape" of a women. If you google Susan McClary you'll find her papers. This insanity has to end.
No doubt she spent all of that on serious research and didn't pocket any of it at all.
Academics are the original grifters. She did it to make a living.

Exactly. I am colourblind not colour-aware. I don't care what your sexuality is...that's your business and I don't need to know about it.

The NHS shouldn't have to rely on charities anyway. They have a huge budget. My local hospital likes to spend theirs on things like painting their pedestrian crossing as rainbow flags.

I worked for arts charities for several years. What you say is 100% correct. I would vote to defund them today if I could. The working environment is also terrible btw, bullying is rife.
I know a woman who works at a liberal arts-university in Norway. Her job is, among other things, to approve or disapprove various applications for research grants and funding. She is under non-disclosure, of course, so she will not tell me details. She just told me there are so many balls-to-the-walls stupid applications, I would not be able to make it up.
But I can...

Cash-strapped NHS Wales Networks and Planning, which racked up a staggering £183 million deficit last year, is hiring an Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Champion for the Women’s Health Network, with an annual salary that ranges from a jaw-dropping £105,504 to £139,882.
They are taking the urologist juice!
And these are posts with NO responsibility or accountability. Basic admin roles in my opinion
Well what do you suppose to do to stop it ?
And it will be a female BIPOC who is hired. This is covert wealth redistribution and reparations. Classic commie tactics
Given the price of a decent bicycle these days, that discount probably represents a few weeks of gas for heating.
Former civil servant here. The reason you find this in Central government is because of the echo chamber. There is a prevailing ideology that you cannot question, and it festers.
I'll be straight up... This is because we have dropped Christianity as the core ideology of the UK. You don't even need to be religious yourself to see that not having objective reality as an axiom of your culture will lead to any relativist absurdity rising in its place. We need to ideologically take a MASSIVE step into the past to restore some sense of normality.

I think that if there is an era in which culture in England has lost its mind, it is the current period and the last decade. Simply crazy.
Nah much further back - the boomer era
Remember how crazy those repressive Victoria's were with their ladies in long skirts and men all buttoned up in shirt, waistcoat and suit jacket, how hush-hush their S*x lives were..... Yep. Subversion of common sense in the name of "equality"
You go girl! We are with you 100% of the way.
Well said. People don't realise how pervasive the hustle is
Because the system incentivizes research. If they don't do some type of research, then they lose their funding quota. I don't agree with their intentions, but if they don't do research, then they lose funding. Obviously, many professors take advantage of the system.

Politics & pettiness smother these universities nowadays. More concerned with inclusivity rather than the best education & career opportunities.

It's how the Establishment pays for support from non-Establishment groups and/or pays its own children.
