  • I show how to turn an angel ornament. This simple beginning woodturner project can provide a lot of satisfaction and a load of Christmas presents! This is a new version of the first video I put on my channel in 2014!

What a lovely ornament. Thanks so much for re-posting it. My daughter has a Christmas shop so I can see dad being asked to make some when I show her this video. Thanks again.

Hey Mike. Using your excellent tutelage I whipped out 2 Angel's today in no time. One normal size and a half size. Thank you so much.

I make angels similar to these. I didn't follow your original directions exactly but love making them. Mike you will never know how much you have helped me in my turning. Thanks ever so much and God bless.

Great update Mike, I watched the original years back and made angels for that year's Ornament. One change to process I found was to hollow the body to reduce the weight, I made them from Oak and found the solid body was a bit heavy. Thanks for the inspiration and tip on end grain gluing, I now always use a coat of glue as sizing on the head before adding the halos.

Thanks for the refresher Mike. I was planning on making some of those but totally forgot about them. Preparing for my first craft fair and want a lot of ornaments. I don't have lots of nice 2x2 squares but I have LOTS of limbs I can use. :D

your awesome mike i still have not put my picture in yet lol . how ever i would like to thank you buddy . i went out in the shop today and turned me a sanding disc and a wooden nose cone for my live center . now the sanding disc i have done before but not as big . the nose cone for the live center i had tought of doing for awhile but it was your video that really pushed me to do it . so thanks again mike . i want to try the hollow globe ornaments soon . oh and i wanted to say if you were to turn these backwards to what you show in the video you could turn the angels into bells i bet . i sure have fun hanging out with ya buddy . love the shop faries to lol . maybe ill have some at some point lol .

Mike, I had watched your original video and it inspired me to make one of these angel ornaments, but for various reasons, I never actually got around to making one. This time I promise to try harder to follow up on the inspiration that you have provided all over again! :)

Made my first angel this evening. My wings are a little small ( I started removing too much waste before making wings) and didn't line up the grain very well on the sander. I watched the video again and I'll try again tomorrow after church. At least my wife could tell what it was when I came in and showed her! Thank you sir for your videos. :)

    Mike,
I would like to take this project and make it into a bell also, but I think it would be a challenge to hold in my chuck. So I have 2 months to figure it out for our church ornament exchange party.
    Thanks,
    Jeff Robinson

Some folks say they hollow out to make lighter. Reverse the turning so head is toward the tailstock. If you are going to glue the Halo as I do, no need to jam chuck to finish the head. Watch the handbell ornament video.
