Shining Force III -- Swift Strategy

- Shining Force is my favorite game on the Sega Genesis, and I have a lot of fondness for the Shining Force series in general. But Shining Force III isn’t just my favorite game of the entire Shining series, this is among my favorite strategy RPGs of all time.

This is my favorite game of all time. I've spent over 800 hours replaying this game over and over again. The battles in this game (especially in Scenario 3) are so fun and ambitious. This probably has my favorite story told in any form of media.
I have spend more than 1000 hours and I still play nowadays. A must have and I love it so much
I played in Japanese in 90s and again in 2000s. More or less in 2018, i finally played the translated patch, and I followed a guide to be able to encounter every character in the game.
It's my favorite game of all time too.
I love this series so much that I started creating 3D models of the towns and environments in hopes of getting hired to do a remake.

Im like halfway through the 3rd Senerio of Shining Force 3 and i absolutely love all 3 Parts. The story is so good and while Senerio 1 is amazing as a stand alone release its crazy we never got Senerio 2 & 3 in English, theres so much ledt to the story. Thankfully we have the fan translations, ive been playing reproductions on my original Saturn. I already loved regular turn based JRPGs but SF3 made me fall in love with Strategy RPGs.
My favorite character in Shining Force 3 is Dantares (I've only played the first scenario so can't say anything about the other two). Overall though, I'll always love Princess Anri from 1.
SF3 has been on my list of "I really want and need to play this" for some 20 years now. I played scenario one on my older brother's Saturn but never finished it. I'm okay with computers, but am terrible with software. Getting these working seems like such a laborious and daunting task I'm not confident I'd be able to get working as an English speaker.
Shining Force 3 is my second favourite game of all time after Final Fantasy VII. I recently played Scenario 2 & 3 for the first time and it was an absolute dream come true after spending so many years wanting to experience them. I even tried playing them years ago with a printed paper translation, I wanted to play them that badly. For anyone else who’s played these, don’t forget about Shining Holy Ark. That’s also an incredibly under appreciated game.
I started playing SF3 two years ago using a Satiator using my original Saturn from the 90's on a 24 inch Sony CRT TV via component cables. Simply lovely to look at. I love this game so much that I recently started replaying it, trying to avoid some of the mistakes I made the first time. If you have the funds to afford a Satiator, it is definitely a great way to play all of the Saturn games on original hardware.
Yoooo I love this game. It sucks that this game is so horribly inaccessible to most people because while I am partial to GS because of my childhood, this is probably Camelot's best game.
I actually really liked the treasure maps. Like it's very much trial and error, but idunno it's fun having a small extra objectives and the loot is pretty worth it for me.
The story is also so good compared to the rest of Camelot's games, and there is a lot of genuine foreshadowed aspects of the plot. The way this connects to Shining the Holy Ark is cool too.
Also probably one of my favorite Sakuraba soundtracks. It's so grandiose and subdued compared to his usual prog rock stuff (Which I love too but this is a change of pace.) God I could gush so much, play it people.
I was recommended this channel and I'm glad somebody covers srpgs, and Shining Force III as well - one day I'd like to tackle them, but it's not likely, so for now, cool video!

I love the mix of pre rendered characters on 3d backgrounds from the Saturn/64 era
My favorite is Shining Force II's May. Not that she has much going narratively, but she's always stuck out to me as a very uniquely "Shinning Force" type character, and her design and battle sprites were always cool to me (being the only character of the Ranger/Bow Knight class in the entire game, she gets to show off her own character design more clearly in her battle sprite than some others). Not very many games have centaur archers in them, either.
Masqurin is up there, though.
Best game ever made, well "games" since the 3 are really one total package. WHY no one has re-released this, or better yet remade it, is a mystery to me. This is an instant success story. A license for developers to print money, and yet they havent touched it.....Weird.
Masqurin is probably also my favorite character from scen 1, but Dantares set a standard of dominance that Campbell and Donhort never quite met, and Hayward surprised me the most as a primarily FE player with how good he is out of the gate
For scen 2, Medion ended up being my favorite of the 3 main characters by far between his story and just being really fun with rapiers, while Syntesis and Hazuki come very close as well
Scen 3, I went into it already really liking Honesty for her actions and personality in scen 2 and she continued to shine, and similarly Produn and Spiriel I was very excited to recruit and did not disappoint in the slightest, Spiriel's fiery battle lust in particular felt great when compared to her portrayal in scen 1 and that flat voice acting she had
I was able to pass the 2 or 3 bugs that I have found in the translation patches. In these cases, I played the original ROM in Japanese, I went ahead the bug and then I return to translated ROM.
This works like a charm!
A remake of the three first games is a dream. The first one almost gained a remake, but Shining Force: Heroes of Light and Darkness was cancelled. The teaser was so magnificent. It would be a masterpiece.

My favorite Shining Force character would have to be Julian. Gameplay wise he's not as strong as Medion, but his journey from the end of Shining the Holy Ark to the end of Shining Force III is really epic.

I still remember how incredibly upset I was when Sega cancelled Episodes 2 & 3. Even with the cliffhanger SF3e1 is my favorite game on the Saturn and one of my all time favorites. Even grinded Penn to max level, oof.
Definitely a bummer that the second and third scenarios are so hard to get up and running nowadays. Fingers crossed that one day Sega decided to throw Shining Force fan a bone, but I kinda doubt it.
I didn't realize that the SSF emulator website went down. That's the one I had the most success with getting all 3 discs to run (with one game crashing glitch - Marky casting her ice summon).
I really need to find a way to play this game... SF2 is probably my favourite game on the Genesis and this looks even better!💖
Favorite character would have to be Musashi! Even though he can’t promote him being a beefy powerhouse was always cool!

I've bought and sold all 3 discs 3 times over (downsizing when making long-distance moves, etc) and intend to keep my current set forever. This is certainly one of the greatest games ever made. I would instantly buy a modern port, just a port, I don't need a remake. If some developer did want to bless the world with a remake, I think something like FE Engage style would be really cool. How can you pick one favorite character?? I guess my answer is Arthur because every time I play SF3, I spend a lot of time leveling him up hahaha.
That warning is real. I had basically 1 character and the beast tamed enemies for the final battle of sc 2
I wish there was a reliable way of playing these games, I have all 3 burnt on disc but it can freeze during 3d battle scenes
I've been playing on my MacBook Pro and it works wonderfully. Could try OpenEMU on there or Windows even.
I’ve been playing on the Fenrir ODE and so far there’s only been one or two hiccups between the first two scenarios.
My top 5 is Alef, zylo/ masqurin and Irene tied for second huzuki is 5th

Masquring is a strong spellcaster, but Hedva, Bridgit and Marky are stronger than her. The way battles are setup make you reliant on Danteros and Obright as your meat shields and Masquring and Hayward as your damage dealers.
Y'all a joking better than 2 or 1 or even cd is wild
SF3 is better than 1,2 and CD. 1 is fun, short enough (GBA version is best). 2 has improved world, story and controls. Shining force CD is a decent game gear game with upgraded music. But they are not even close to the epic and great SF3.
