Really intriguing to see a AAA rated vented jacket/shirt like this, the ratings aren't perfect but it guarantees a level of performance. Bit of a shame it doesn't come in a lighter colour to try and reflect some sunlight when stationary! I think that would still make me go for the Klim Marrakesh over this despite the lower CE rating.

What do you mean by the "ratings aren't perfect"? I am looking into this shirt and was wondering if it is actually as safe as it sounds?

Perhaps a stretch strip inside the shirt to sew a connecting zip to ie to attach to bottom leathers etc really nice gear though

Anyone, even a company who manufactures motorcycle specific PPE, telling you that "you don't need the safest" equipment is deeply mistaken and is culpable in the push to the bottom for riding safety and the consequences of that trend. We, as riders and motorcyclists, should always ride in the safest manner possible with the safest equipment available - understanding that affordability is a consideration. I, for one, am growing increasingly frustrated with the myriad riding gear options that only have CE Level 1 armour or A-rated abrasion resistance. ALL riding gear should include, or at least be upgradable to CE Level 2 armour and be, compromises being accepted, AA abrasion resistance. As a long time Rev'it customer and wearer, even though this is a Knox specific video, I would still consider them one of the largest culprits of form over function in the motorcycle riding gear arena and it seems that Knox is also willing to allow you to forgo the level of safety you should have and deserve.

I understand your point, people should always be as safe as possible when on a motorcycle. However, I can also understand the point that some people use their bike or scooter exclusively within cities like London for example. In London you can go your whole biking life without going above 30mph if you wanted and in that case I can see why they might advocate for "less safe" gear because at 30mph and below CE A rating should be sufficient. And lets not pretend that price doesn't play a huge factor, AAA rated gear is more expensive than A gear and at the end of the day, any gear is better than no gear. If all the delivery riders in London who I see where tracksuit trousers and trainers were to upgrade to just A rated gear, we would see a lot less nasty injuries.

You misunderstand, the risks are painted for you. The A rated PRO is not made for highway speeds, it's A rated, but it's a great off road layer for example.
I think Knox is doing exactly what they should, providing base layers and allowing squids to be stylish without leaving skin on the pavement.

@@bobo1793Most motorcycle deaths are the result of uncontrolled intersection collisions. It doesn't matter how fast you're riding, a collision with a high mass vehicle will result in a large transfer of force. Most research shows that armour only meeting minimum CE1-2 doesn't reduce the force enough. Companies can make armour that exceeds the minimum standards. But they won't as long as they can get away with it. They, after all, lobbied for low standards. We should be demanding higher than the minimum standards. The tiered offerings are just to make it so that people are more likely to buy, and think they are safe buying what they have. But they'd better off saving the money with getting only CE level 1 or something that barely meets CE level 2, in terms of impact.

anything motorcycle related in terms of clothing is extortionate all a massive rip off all propaganda. I have wasted so much money on riding gear that doesnt make no difference in a accident i know as i ride with and without gear. Riding jeans are terrible amour so small on the knees doesnt contour and shifts around and this is with all the big brands such as john doe and pando moto etc. i just wear my normal jeans cost me £30 not £300+ and so much more comfortable, fits me well, not heavy etc. I also have a segura natcho jacket which the elbow amour is way better than any knee amour you eill get in any riding jean. i have had a knox armored shirt it was shite save your money get a leather suit or 2 piece or just get textiles not ones that say they are waterproof as they only have 10,000mm which on a motorcycle you need at least 15,000mm minimum. Textiles are like overalls so just wear your normal clothes underneath or wear your normal clothes and get adv amour like a back brace not back amour as thats shite get a proper back brace that protects the full length which is traps to coccyx.

I love the concept of their layering system, it makes so much sense to put the protection close to the body and then add/subtract layers as needed.
But, I can't help feel Knox's outers are just a bit, errr, dull. Very technically accomplished, but not exactly stylish.
Maybe that's the idea, we buy the layers we need and then throw something casual over the top knowing we're protected, but I'd love it if Knox gave us a style layer or two to go along with the warm and the weatherproof layers.

What is the final visual design of this shirt? As the video appears to show two different designs. One (that you have in the studio) has a one piece mesh panel on the chest. But then some of the imagery shows a two piece mesh design with horizontal stitching under the pecs (at 2:24 for e.g.)

About time a 'slide time' was added to abrasion resistance for these A ratings to be meaningful. Pretty sure this AAA rated textile would fail long before an AAA rated leather jacket.

I would even say they would fail long before an A rated leather jacket... In the past, there were no A's, and everybody knew that leather was the best.
I love this kind of product (although it's pricey) because I live in Barcelona and here it is really hot in summer. However, I wouldn't use it for more than a 30-minute slow commute. Maybe it's a lack of confidence but for longer and faster trips, I would always wear leather or good cordura jacket.

I'm a bit late with this question. I am a measured 44'' chest. What size should I order, please? This jacket doesn't seem to be quite as tight under the arms as the other Knox armoured shirts/jackets. Am I correct?

    • @MsMarlarae
      @MsMarlarae Рік тому +1

The size chart would put you at the lower end of XL. I just sized up as someone with a 42.5 chest, I got the XL. It fits like a close fitting jacket, not exactly form fitting. I can still throw a hoodie on over the top no problem. The issue I saw with the size chart was sleeve length for some, it was short if you are lanky. My sleeves are the perfect length, ending where my hands begin and the loops fit without too much stretch.. For you I think XL would be perfect, as you are at the lower end and wouldn't necessarily need to "size up" and the armor would fit close to the body as needed.

This looks like it has about the same abrasion resistance as the blue sweater you're wearing. It does not look like it'd save your skin whatsoever.
