Thanks so much Roses! Trying our best to get the basic concepts of production out before going into advanced tips. Still amazed at how many mixing engineers and producers there are that simply don't pull down the faders!
Good video! But wanted to bring this up... You might have missed an important flaw/workaround in the channel strip - that compressor that comes before gain and doesn't have its own input gain, by default has auto makeup on, so it clips that comp using cubasis' own sounds which have no output level adjustment. The only way to avoid clipping then is to disable that auto makeup and basically have two channel strips in a series - the first with the comp disabled but gain down and then the secind with the business.
@@MobileMusicPro that was my point, you might have mentioned disabling this spiky compressor in the video ;) 2 channel strips might be needed if you do want to use their compressor or if you want to use both tape and tube saturation ;)
@@iliavr Ok, yah if you don't enable any saturation then the gain knob just becomes a regular gain knob, I've tested this to make sure it doesn't actually add any compression/color when using the gain knob when the saturation knob above it is set to zero.
Bro thanks again!! Only thing I'll say as far as an idea.. maybe in the future you could possibly do videos for like beginner or novice both.. beginner being similar to this an novice maybe not so detailed on the things that don't exactly pertain to the mission in the video.. either way thanks for the info!!
Great video, Vortex! What I usually do when applying plug-in effects to a track is to make sure the loudness is the same at the “on” position as it is when turning the effect “off”. As you know, people are likely to louder sound so if applying an eq with some boosts which also increases the overall output of the track, we tend to like it more and think it sounds better, which is obviously not the case. So make sure to maintain the same level when applying plug-ins people!
Nice video. Mixing is where I'm struggling most. Can I just check what you man. You are adjusting the gain of your track (whilst your fader is at 0) to the kind of volume you'll want it in the mix? So that you can then fine tune with the faders?
So, essentially you will have a channel strip pre fader in every single track of your project then? Adjust the gain there to see what it looks like on the master fader (see that it’s not clipping), and that makes you able to keep the faders on the individual tracks close to zero? Is that the idea? Also, I don’t quite understand what you mean when you saw ‘pull down all the faders,’ why would you do that if you wanna keep them as close as possible to zero? Thanks. Love your videos.
Hey Jim, that's correct the channel strip can actually go pre or post if you want too. Yes adjusting the pregain allows you to not have to mess with the post faders as much. When I say pull all the faders down I mean to recommend to start with the volume first before you start using additive tools like eqs and compressors to fix loudness issues.
Hey thanks for subscribing! There are certainly apps that can help you find the key of melodies and songs but to find the beat all you have to do is tap the tempo in cubasis to the beat of the drumloop/song and it will input it into the DAW :) So tap on where it says tempo and then keep tapping on where it says tap tempo :)

Hey, I noticed you had the room works reverb on an insert effect rather than a send. I thought reverb generally goes on as a send. Did you just have it as an insert effect for ease of the demonstration? Thanks again!
Yah it was mostly just for demonstration, generally you apply the reverb on the send, if you watch the livestreams where I make music live on the ipad every wednesday you'll notice me do this alot. But just remember there really are no hard "rules" in music production, only guidelines :)
Great video! Question though, on the reverb send you mentioned that the mix adds output and it’s true, but everywhere i read that in a send the master reclverb should be at 100% wet, or mix at 100%. Is this true?
First of all remember there really are no rules. You must always do what sounds best to you. I've never once in my life used a reverb at 100% wet or set a reverb's mix knob to 100%. Also we have a video on this called Insert vs Send effects, make sure to check that out where we explain some of these concepts.
Android does not support the Audio Unit format unfortunately. Android's audio ecosystem is very fragmented making it hard to create any type of audio standard like AUv3.

Cubasis 3 doesn't come with an automatic pitchbending effect however there are a ton of great and cheap AUv3 apps that can accomplish this task that you can bring into and use with Cubasis.
Apologies for delay in answering! Yes in Cubasis 2 everything is prefader by default. So you can still gain stage just fine by adding the channel strip, and adjusting the gain knob before adjusting faders :)
@@MobileMusicPro Thanks for replying. I just started using Cubasis 2 and thought I read somewhere it was post fader but after using it for a few minutes, I realized it was pre. That's correct Gordon :)
How about using the vol control that shows up with fade in/out handles on each track but pulling down the center handle?
That way = 0 saturation
You can use volume control on the mixer as well but that's generally done AFTER everything is gainstaged.
