I remember walking on that Pier many times during my Marine Corp time in the late 60s and early 70s.
It was 24yrs ago that I rode Greyhound to San Diego , knowing I had nowhere to go , but was damn determined to go to the Beach and the Ocean , and Oceanside Pier was it ❤ This literally breaks My Heart⛱️🌊💚💙🩵🤍
I sometimes rode Amtrak from Northern California to go Tuna fishing with my Son get off in Oceanside right by the pier.
How ya doing...? Sincere question... just wondering
I lived in Carlsbad much of my life and watched high wave tear down the O'side pier in the 1970s. It will be rebuilt.
@@user-bu7jl6zy5d ♥️ Carlsbad and Encinitas! I used to go bodysurfing during hurricanes in Baja but when the waves started slapping the bottom of the pier I'd just stand and watch! 18 foot is the biggest id ever rode! Seal Beach Shorebreak!
@user-xh8ii2hj6r I'm doing great! I Love California and was prepared to stay and make a life for Myself while in Los Angeles in March , but it was difficult for My Kids to Love em' from afar! Should the opportunity ever present itself again , My bags will be packed and ready to go! 🌇💛🌅
@@ItsCareLynnGuys Good for you! I grew up in Downey and sure miss it...moved North in 96 ...I got to see lots of the country on my job...I do Terrazzo... airports and such all over learned the trade in Los Angeles... Terrazzo is what the Hollywood Stars sidewalk is...I'm itching to get down that way again...I love the ocean but it's a cold current up this way....
The smoke coming from the corners is odd.
True....I thought the same. Hope not spaced like that cuz set intentionally
Might be electrical. That would be where writing for the perimeter lights would likely run.
What it looks like to me is that the wind is blowing indland, and the wall of the building is blocking it, so it has to go above where you see no smoke or out to the sides where you see the smoke getting pushed. Idk how to explain it. The wind hits the wall some goes up and the rest swirls to the sides till it can keep going.

Not even the water is safe from California fires. 😂
Fire doesn’t just break out “ under” a pier. One that’s been standing since 1888.
Are you saying that's not what happened or that it is entirely impossible for it to happen?
maybe it doesn't start underneath, but it can certainly burn througb and start smoking from underneath as well
Well, there was ongoing construction, so I guess the reason is some kind of welding accident, sparks lighting a small fire nobody noticed and then everyone went home. Welding or cutting metal.
Yall think you're literally fire scientists lmao
@@whatever3145bet they same guys who say this was faked are flat earthers
Can't help but watch and think someone intentionally set this fire. Human behavior is sometimes extremely predictable. I hope I'm wrong.
😂😂😂seems like perfect logic
Bum fire 🔥
I've never been there before, but there were two things that kept frustrating me as I watched this video. 1st, I never saw one lick of blaze anywhere - absolutely NO fire! 2nd, no matter which direction they showed in the video, you could NOT see where the pier connected to the shore. Sometimes it was even difficult to see any of the pier. Plus it seemed to be ALL smoke!! Was the pier even on fire?? How long was the pier?
The title indicated Oceanside Responded to a Blaze. What I saw on the video could have been created by letting off a couple smoke bombs - There was NO blaze.
I wonder what really happened. Was there real danger? Or was someone just playing around??
@@gladysrosa6383Those are my questions too.
I was there last week. The building was empty. There was no restaurant there anymore, but they were doing construction on the building.
Thanks...I love Oceanside...good fishing on that pier
They were "doing construction" on Notra Dame, on Windsor Castle and on that Danish stock-exchange: must be something about those builders.
@@None-zc5vg Notre Dame fire was sad to see
🧐🧐🧐🧐 They were doing construction??? I remember being a kid in the South Bronx in the 70s watching large apartment buildings 5 stories high suspiciously go up in flames dam near every week. Years later it’s been said the landlords cashing in on insurance claims! Some would rather demo with fire than pay to demolish. No one knows🤷🏼♂️ It could all have been natural or accidental🤷🏼♂️ but an empty building and construction going on…seems suspicious to me🧐
It was arson for sure, that fire burned overnight and it still smoldering into this morning.
Looks more like smoke bombs strategically placed all along the outside of it....
Hmmm. Wonder who collected the insurance for that empty building .... couldn’t fix it????
Dang I have ate at that restaurant when I was kid with my grandparents I hope they can save it and no one got hurt
I know what you mean I've been there too
Ya I ate there with my dad twenty years ago, Ruby's was the name of the restaurant back then
LOOKS LIKE THE ONE IN GTAV
almost
You would think, that being right there on the water, there would have been a generator and a water pump all set, with inlet pipes down the pilings to suck up water in case of fire.
That would have extinguished this in 20 minutes, and saved 10s of thousands of dollars in damage.
Ive said something similar for years about California forest fires. That if they had built pumping stations and run pipelines through the forest from the nearby lakes, BILLIONS in insurance payouts over the year never would have never been needed, and peoples homes and lives would have been saved.
Now look
@@itizme8072 a logistical nightmare. That would cost billions and you can’t just run pipes from lakes to have water because there would need to have pump stations and water towers (electricity isn’t free and pump stations are not cheap). Water pressure is important and it would take a lot of pressure. It would take a lot of water towers. It would take billions to cover ten percent of our forests.😅
Sad to see a landmark go up in flames 😢
Why is it burning from below?
In electrical fires, the wire insulation melts and then the wires short circuit and can heat up a lot. But there are circuit breakers that should have tripped to prevent it.
Without getting a hose into the building, they probably didn't have much chance in suppressing the fire. Also unfortunate the wind direction carried that thick smoke directly down the rest of the pier. Bummer.
It looks like the smoke is coming from under the pier!!
100% Insurance scam.
They keep claiming that several departments were there. 🤷🏻♀️ but all those “departments” were unable to do anything. Even the boats could only assist a little. The 1st helicopter came about 50 mins after the start. So sad 😢 They were definitely not prepared for such a situation which is very disappointing. Imagine if it was summer, full of tourists. I live by the pier and saw it :(
Bummer! Been going fishing there all my life really... Bummer about the response I meant
Jim bruer and Roseanne barr were just discussing this sort of phenomenon.
Is this the pier in Oceanside? That was a beautiful pier and beach..😢
@@KOOLBadger Yeah ...by Camp Pendleton
It looks like if it was full of people they could have evacuated I think. Still sucks though
If the burns to the "water." Wow. How bad is the fire dept planning and prevention in that city.
The old Diner was called Ruby’s… I’m not surprised to hear that the restaurant wasn’t there anymore; the quality of the food just took a big nosedive, it was one of the last places I ate at before leaving California.
Don't contribute to turning your new spot into a copy of the location that you fled from. This is a funny thing about humans.
I remember walking down that pier with my Marine before he passed.😢 The memories there. 😢
That sucks 😢
Wow! I used walk that pier..in the 80's.
Too bad. I went to High School in Oceanside!
Added note: the beach right adjacent to the pier called the "Strand" has been virtually washed away by tides from storms in the previous 3 years.
I've been there. Long time ago.
They need bigger fire boats. Those are a little smaller than the fire boats used when the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland Ohio used to catch fire.
Yes. that's right. The river caught fire - it was so polluted it was flammable. So weird to be driving on bridges over the river and see fire boats pumping water on flames on the river. And the river is no where near the size of the water around the pier.
And it's cleaned up well -- no fires for decades- YAY!
Dang
Hopefully all are ok
Looking at this one scene, on the surface it appears suspiciously like arson. Too many separate points smoke emerging from..... 🤔. I live here in the area so I'll be watching the news for further information and hopefully an investigation.
Sad. It has been there forever 😢
Looks like they're looking for some water for the fire.💀💀
This reminds me of that ship that crashed on that bridge a while ago . This accidents don't seem quite natural in my opinion.
It takes a special kind of person to burn a building down that’s literally built on water 🤦♂️
The insurance payout from this must be astronomical
Daaaaaaaaaammmmmnnnn! That’s very very VERY insane!
They can't pump enough water. The pier will be destroyed. 😢
Water, water everywhere And not a drop to douse! That’s California for ya!
Same thing happened to a historic pier in Padre Island Texas a few years back. Bad wiring was the probable cause.
That little string of water isn't going to turn anything off but a cigarette
⚔️✝️⚔️ I say ........it was arson.🔥
Ruby's has been closed since 2021, victim of the pandemic since obviously no take out is possible here. It's said the building was under construction at the time. I haven't seen updated video of the incident only this helicopter view, but I'm assuming it was a total loss since there's no real way to put it out. Can any locals confirm the current status of the building and pier?
The entire empty Ruby’s diner is gone and only the end of the pier has structure damage. ATF is on the scene to start investigating.
It would be pretty sad if that place burns down with all that water. Surrounding it now.
Looks like a cut scene out of gta v lol. Was there a boat with 3 guys fleeing the scene? 2 white, 1 black, possibly accompanied by a cripple wearing glasses? 😂
All that water and no hose
The building was being renovated for a new business. Its my guess that some under qualified electrician had some rather unsafe wiring going on somewhere started to burn underneath and inside the building and by the time it was addressed it had gotten too hot and spread too far. When that kind of wood starts to burn it's really hard to put out.
I hope everyone is okay.
Looks like it is burning from underneath. Kinda wierd.
Insurance pay out !! Suspicious

Far out side corners are on fire?🤔
hmmmmmmm, looks like they have plenty of water.......

Sad, landmark seen throughout the world through many movies!
Also happened in Seal Beach, CA. They need to stop allowing restaurants, which are naturally fire prone establishments, to be built on piers.
It’s been closed for years lol
Ummm…this was caused by a construction crew.
Better stop any and all construction, Karen.

Abandoned and construction site. insurance fraud or someone wants to wipe it out and build something else.
I watched it live for about a half an hour. It seemed to me that the fire boats were not very effective. They were unable to keep the water on the hotspots.

As 50's children, my elder clan members rented an apt. one block from entrance to Ocean Beach Pier. Kids stayed all summer. Parents stayed one week at a time. What was the name of the Deli at the corner of Rosecrans & ?? Pier was one block away. That deli was great. Our clan resided the rest of the year in the hot AZ desert. Great memories of cousins sleeping wall to wall. I remember, I believe my Grandparents were a constant presence. We all loved Ocean Beach, enjoyed our Grandparents and each other. Those were the days!❤
