    I honestly think many, if not most people generally know this (who really thinks excessive meat, dairy, sugar and alcohol consumption is good for them?), but they just don't want to give up their bad habits. It's more lack of willpower than lack of knowledge.

      Are you from America? The vast majority of people out here think meat and dairy are good for you, lol. Even my doctor said milk is good for you! YIKES! That being said, there's a lack of willpower, too. Just look at how many people abuse drugs and alcohol, knowing it will ultimately cause their demise.

      Frederick0220 What's even more messed up is most colleges don't even require future doctors to take a nutrition class! So they're recommending it without knowing anything.

    I heard a crazy thing this morning. My co-worker, who has breast cancer, is going to have a pet scan done next week, and was told she needed to build up her muscles so the pet scan can work optimally. The day before, she was told, she has to cut out all carbs, and only eat proteins -- of course, that means eggs, beef, chicken, etc. I was about to say, No! No! No!, but she told me that's what her doctor is telling her to do and she has to listen to her doctor. How sad this made me.

      This is appalling, and medically asinine: Unless her PET/CT is months off, this diet won't make it a more effective a scan, whatever that means. It's like these people never studied human biochemistry. Or radiology. They're that ignorant.

    Cancer prevention is really important to me... and I went vegan in April 2014 because of it. I am worried though, because it seems that heart disease, diabetes, and cancer risks still stay high for people who are overweight/obese. Even though I have been vegan now for 8 months, I have not lost any weight, and am still overweight. Does the diet drop the risk more or less than the weight itself?

    • @bagiee1
      @bagiee1 9 років тому +1

      Well... by asking the questions, and searching for things you make progress.
      There are many factors why you are still overweight after being 8 months vegan.
      Are you a whole foods plant based vegan, or are you a junk/processed food vegan?
      Do you do any exercise, or you are a couch potato? Have you quit eating white bread, and lots of pastas?
      If you dont see any results by being a whole foods plant based vegan, and doing regular exercise, then if i were you i would go into more drastic measures such as fasting, or juice smoothie diet for a week or couple of weeks...depending on the situation.
      If you set your mind on it, you can do it...this is the most important thing. Intention.
      (personally even if i was a whole foods plant based vegan for some time, i was still caring some belly fat....after i quit eating white bread, my stomach came to its right proportions.)

      Also, our diets should include plenty of antioxidant-rich foods consumed regularly throughout the day. I believe that consuming plenty of antioxidants prior to, during, and after exercise can be very helpful for neutralizing harmful substances released in our bodies during exercise.

      I'd say make your vegan diet more of a whole-foods plant based type. Like, maybe switch out any refined grains to whole grains (and even better if you eat the grain itself and not the flour form, such as wheat berries rather than wheat flour products or rolled/steel cut oats rather than quick oats). Also, limiting added sugars (which tend to be in a lot more foods than you would expect - even bread has some). Then ditching the store-bought meat and cheese substitutes. Maybe switch out refined oils for nuts and seeds or nut and seed butters when possible. If none of this works, then I'd suggest either investigating your portion sizes or maybe taking up an exercise routine. And if none of that helps, talk to a doctor.

      Vegetables are poison if they aren't organic, also the biggest thing is the plastic we drink our water from. It's photo degradable, so if you let your water bottles sit in the sun it turns into a plastic tea.

    • @houndjog
      @houndjog 9 років тому +1

      Anthony Sgro Not only plastic but The resin linings of tin cans contain bisphenol-A, a synthetic estrogen that has been linked to ailments ranging from reproductive problems to heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. The acidity in tomatoes causes BPA to leach into your food.

      I wouldn't want to eat anorganic plants either ;)

    • @radguitar1
      @radguitar1 9 років тому +1

      Anthony Sgro FTR "organic" does not inherently mean "pesticide-free"
      There are organic pesticides used in certified organic operations where motivation is more about profit than it is about supplying people with the healthiest food. We can only truly be sure what is in/on our foods when we produce them ourselves (even in small, community level operations).
      Also, I wouldn't go so far as to say that consuming fluids from containers made with BPA is "the biggest thing", as you said, but I totally agree that it is a really big issue that is hardly understood by too many people. I wont eat any soy foods because they also contain estrogen compounds that disrupt male/female endocrine systems in animals including humans.

    It's amazing that we talk about foods for cancer patients without ever talking about the toxins in our food supply. I think often the problems is not really whether the corn and soy are good or bad for cancer but rather the fact that they are GMO makes them toxic where organic foods of exactly the same species of plants may even be healthy.

    I do not vegetarianism is an absolutely better choice than traditional eating (eating meats, sea foods, and instant foods), it depends on what the most important thing in one's life is. There is no argument that eating only green raw vegetables and fruits may increase your lifespan and could prevent possible diseases. But those benefits do not come for free.
    First, you will lose at least half of the flavours humans can taste. As far as I know, all current human races prefer meats or sea foods. Some people would say they do not, but that is probably because of other reasons such as health. Children are true to their nature, find any child who prefers vegetables to meats.
    Secondly, you could be in a socially awkward situation. There are almost nothing you can eat in restaurants (the situation could be different depending where you live), food kiosks, and dinner at a friend’s house, etc. You cannot eat ice cream in the summer. You cannot drink milk, eat pizza or birthday cakes. When all your friends or family want to eat those, you will be in a socially awkward situation.
    Thirdly, you have to spend much more time preparing, selecting, and cooking your meal. Say that is 1 more hour a day. Age 20 to age 80 is 60 years. That is approximately 4 years’ worth time (sleep time is excluded). By doing so, you live up to 90, instead of 80. This could be a bad choice depending on your point of view. Someone could prefer spending 4 years of their younger time doing something they want to 10 years of 80’s in a nursing home.
    So, whichever way people choose, you cannot judge the other side. Some people prefer living longer sacrificing some of the joys, and some people are willing to sacrifice some of their life span in exchange for the joys… Do you remember a scene from the movie Matrix? A guy preferred eating meat in a virtual world to living in a crappy reality. Knowing it is a false world, does not change the taste. I think some people are like that. How can you prove living healthier & longer is the best value of human life? Some animals are happy to die younger after mating than living longer without mating. The most important thing in one’s life differs from people to people. What if one’s biggest joy of life is eating a turkey with the whole family on a Christmas? Do not try to force your value to others.

      Jeong-hun Sin I begana whole food plant-based diet 5 months ago and have been quite diligent in following the program. However, I have had a handful (maybe 5 times)of cravings in which I indulged in (1/4 corned beef sandwich when visiting Las Vegas, roast turkey leg at a family reunion, etc). I am extremely careful & make sure I don't follow any "craving" with a binge-eating episode. I want & intend to eat healthy but I don't want to be miserable or feel tortured. In fact, I have lost over ten pounds, too!

      Your arguments are irrelevant.
      The argument isn’t that eating vegan is easiest and funnest way to live it is that it is the healthiest.
      They aren’t pushing agenda but facts it’s up to you whatever dietary changes you make.
      You’re upset because you want to have your chosen lifestyle be pat on the back but that’s not how reality works.
      Embrace yourself without knowledge and make a choice.
      You can eat healthy and still get sick and eat rubbish and not get sick- it’s all a chance game where your chance is increased or decreased.
      Good luck in life I hope you stay healthy. :)
      I wish I could have stayed healthy.
