  • Heres a quick video I made of me playing the Korg Poly 61.
All sounds are original patches I created, which I have available for download.
If you would like the soundbank patches, send me a message.
All sounds are played in real-time, no sequencing.
I've added a small amount of reverb and compression to the audio.
Please take a moment to like, comment and subscribe.
    Thanks for watching it.

This is cool cause I had one for a while in the 90’s, and good to be reminded of its sounds and interface. Cheers

I like how this doesn't sound like a Moog or Oberheim. It's a got a cool warmth if that makes sense. It just sounds good. Some say it sounds dated but if so, that's a good thing.

I give a thumbs-up to anyone who respects the watchers enough to do a no-talking vid. Thanks! I have to say the 61 sounds better than I would have guessed. And yet, it just seems to fall between two stools. The Polysix is a bonafide fully-analog machine (with SubOsc in place of DCO2, and better effects and more LFOs), and the following DW-8000 is heads and shoulders above the 61 in terms of functionality and yet may be the same price on the used market.

Thank you! Yes, the Poly 61 is a fantastic synth with warmth and full sound. I love mine.

Great demo! One of the few true vintage ssm filter synths that are still affordable with a very characteristic 80s sound. Quite limited range of parameter values, two DCOs but no sync or cross modulation, so typical Korg - limited, easy to use with tons of character. You either love it or hate it.

Poly 61 does not have SSM filters. The filters are Korg ones from later MS20. The VCAs are SSM though.

@@serhiymarchenko8361 Ah, sorry and thanks for correcting me on this, I think you're right! Maybe I confused the 61 with the 6 there...

This model can produce some great pads, but it definitely needs complimentary monosynth for leads and basslines.

I've got a question, I've got a poly 61 also. Just got it in a trade. I am an analog synth nut for anything from around 81 on back to 75ish. This synth sounds nothing but metallic harsh. Very dated to the 80's. It has more of an FM sound to me opposed towards the smooth analog synths of the decade before. This has a thin harshness as opposed to thick, full, smooth and full of bass. Yes the Moogs, Oberheims and Prophets could sound metallic also, but you could tone that back. There are only a couple of Japanese synths of the late 70's into the very early 80's that had that sound. However this isn't one of them. I'm a little disappointed in the Poly 61. I've listened to all the poly 61 videos here on UA-cam. Like this one, many are done very well. It isn't the player. It's the synth. Does anyone feel differently? I'm in my late 40's. I still listen to college radio. I try to find new music of today. I like my older stuff but as a musician, I want to stay current. Even though there isn't anything on any regular radio station playing "new music" that's worth listening to. However I Try to keep an open mind.

Mate I think your overthinking it some of the. Patches can sound harsh but others sound very smooth

Remember, music and sound is subjective. Something that may sound great to you may sound like crap to me. And as to the 1st comment, my question is (how could I warm up the sounds)? Anything I hear from UA-cam concerning the Poly 61 just sounds so dated. Most analog synths have timless sounds. I would figure if I could hear something that I liked here on UA-cam, i could emulate it. I keep working with it since i made my original remark/question. Ive got Oberheims, Moogs, Rolands the Beringer Dark Mind and other Korgs. I can make all of these other synths sing, cry, scream etc. They worked for the music back in the day and they work well with many other styles of music today. I guess i just have to say enough is enough and sell or trade this poly 61. Everyone has different tastes in music and in sound. Once again, music IS subjective. Something that works for me may not work or sound so great to you. That's all.

@@maxbassett5996 did i do better dad? Did i put my words together enough so you could hear the question? I thpught it was obvious. OK? I most certainly didn't mean to piss in your cheerios Mr. Max? I guess I just don't understand why this got on your nerves so much so that you had to take time out of your day to write a smart ass remark that if we were face to face you'd never have the balls to make that remark like that. I stop and think, would I say this face to face to someone? Safety behind a computer screen has made people really act like aggressive jerks. Well Max, this is something that I would say to your face! I am not the kind of guy to start problems. However I sure do like to talk to guys like yourself without a computer screen between us. Lets meet up Max and I can elaborate on my statement/question.

@@Todd63790 Todd, you may be correct. I may be over thinking this Korg. However I can say that i have worked with this thing for quite some time, just to give it a chance. Sometimes we just don't gel with a certain instrument. Other times you find something that you instantly love and will never get rid of it. Thank you Todd. I'm glad that you have enough of a brain to understand where I was going with this. There are other kinds of people who need things spelled out for them like good ole Max. If you don't, they just may get irritated enough to make a smart ass remark. Honestly, thank you Todd. Sometimes I can't see the forrest for the trees because I'm trying to force things instead of just letting it happen. I did want to tell you that I have kept it and worked with it for quite some time after your comment. I just can't seem to be able to click with this synth.
