Korg Poly-61 cleaning, battery replacement, recover original presets

- In this video I will show you how to clean, change and solder a new battery and clean the keyboard contacts so all the keys work.
The battery I used was a Varta 3.6 volts 140 mAh with 3 solder pins

1. Connect a mono audio cable from the output of your computer/player to the FROM TAPE input on the Poly-61.
2. Set the level switch on the back - LOW or HIGH - depending on the output of your player.
3. Set the rear panel’s TAPE and WRITE switches to ENABLE
4. Set the audio file it starts from the beginning (where you hear the tone).
5. Press LOAD button - the display with read Lo Ad
6. Play the WAV file.
7. If it works, when it’s done the screen will tell you it’s Go od.
8. If there are errors, the screen will report it as Er r. If an error is indicated, check the output level of your player, could be too loud or too quiet, then carefully repeat Load procedure. - Навчання та стиль
Hey, hope all good with you? I just wanted to come on again & comment, to say how much I appreciate your fantastic, clear & very helpful tutorial. Iv been putting this off for months, as one does ( me), but I have just finished the whole process@ 5 am. Your video was invaluable. Iv watched it many times in preparation. I replaced the battery. Was badly leaking original, there was a lot of corrosion & I was worried some of the traces were damaged, but I cleaned it & cleaned it, cotton buds a plenty & 90% alcohol. I desoldered the old battery , & after cleaning, put the new one in, (exactly the same one as yours)..My Poly61 looks a bit different than yours inside. Its a non midi one, & didnt have a space above the joystick area like yours does. Also the keyboard contact strip area is one piece on mine ( a better design) & the key contacts are gold patterns, not black like yours. Mine was surprisingly clean. I think it must have been a new part, but the actual contacts were not good, they were dirty & quite brittle, like deteriorating of the rubber.
I put new spagetti ( key contacts) in mine, but the old ones were probably still ok, but aging badly.
I got mine from Japan about 6 months ago & it was doa. After fixing the power supply, leads etc, & a lot of messing with wav files of the preset patches I finally got it 'working', but only 1 note worked!
So I dont even know this synth yet, but I used to have access to one & played it in a band decades ago.
Im pleased to say that this past few hours work was 99% successful! my b below mid c is not working, but I can live with that. Its rare I use that note anyway.

This is an excellent tutorial, thankyou. I have watched it several times because I have this whole process to deal with ,having received a Poly 61 , that was supposed to be serviced with a new battery & in excellent condition last month, from Japan, & this was clearly not the case at all unfortunately, ie it was not working, d.o.a.
I have worked on it & the power cables internal were broken, so I have that fixed, plus I managed to load the presets (via mp3 of factory data)..that took several days to get right..Now I have discovered that only 1 key is working. It is obviously the original battery, like yours & has leaked too, quite a mess around the battery. I tried to get a refund, but have been ignored by the sellar. eeebay didnt help either
