    GTP's don't get the love they deserve in the reptile community. In my opinion they make great pets

    Another great production guys! Been watching y'all since you had 3k subs. It's awesome to see you grow and expand on herpetology beyond balls and encompass more commonly owned snakes by most people. KEEP IT UP!

      Olympus Reptiles right on. Out of curiosity I see y’all have two babies in one slot on some of the racks, that’s the only thing stopping me from a new BP is an enclosure. We’re in the process of moving to a rack for our adults, but we have nothing for babies.

    I would love a green tree python in my feature, they're so beautiful and unique. But for now I am happy with my little Mojave I'm growing up. When I have more experience is when I'd be comfortable. Love the vid 👍👍 hope y'all have an amazing day

    With the comment of how great the chondro community is, there are also some very strong opinions about HOW to keep them. Example there's 3 things I'm seeing here that many would freak out about.
    1. Tall enclosure. Yes, they're arboreal, but most keepers say to keep them in wider tanks because they move horizontally through the tree branches in the wild.
    2. Natural looking set up with loose substrate. A lot of keepers basically say you must keep them in clinical, bare set ups. Like a plastic tub or PVC cage, with paper towel, water bowl, and a perch. Glass enclosures are frequently frowned upon.
    3. Perch is way too thick. Again, I frequently see people saying that the thinner the perch, the better. Basically so that their coils are touching from opposite sides.
    I LOVE the set up being shown here. Can you guys offer opinions or advice on the matters I pointed out?

    • @OlympusReptiles
      @OlympusReptiles  5 років тому +3

      As far as substrate, they live in a natural environment right? It isn't full of paper towels. Height is partly for looks as I would say it chooses about the same place all the time lol.
      Remember, our setup is different because it is a display setup with an employee who works in it daily at our zoo. Simplistic is definitely easier, but if people came into a zoo and saw that......many would complain. The very naturalistic look makes an awesome display, even if it means a bit more work.
      Only glass is also the front. Rest is textured concrete.

      Generally I am a fan of the sterile setup. My cages are all PVC, a maximum of 2' tall, and use puppy pads a a substrate. All my perches are thin and are removable. However, you must remember that the gtp in the video is in the Zoo. Viewers expect to see animals in what looks like a natural environment. Also, she has a thinner perch that she prefers that literally broke the night before. I'm sure it's been fixed and reinstalled by now.

      Love hearing that. That was our whole hope for this video! They have an undeserved bad rap, which is a bummer because a lot of keepers avoid them when they're such a joy to work with.

    Just got one of these bad boys last Sunday, a nice Aru UKCB17 Male Called him "Prince" Because hes just so Regal sat there on his Perch. Fed for the First time tonight for me too as he was due for his Weaner rat. These Snakes are on another level, when watching them you know theirs more going on behind those eyes than the average Python, i dunno just get this feeling there a lot more intelligent than other Python Species. Glad to see these awesome snakes getting some love. Cant wait to start breeding these.

    does someone know how prone they are to respiratory diseases? i wonder if those could become an issue when the animal has to be put in a rain chamber as some people do for better bowel movement. of course it always depends on the individual too (stress factors, immune system,...)

    You mentions forums for information on GTP. I am thinking of getting one so I am doing my research and I have lots of questions. Can you perhaps answer this with links to some active GTP boards to connect with? Thanks!

    If I’m not mistaken don’t they have the largest fangs for a none venomous snake. A friend has a juvenile pair of green trees and they are amazing and hopefully in about five to six years when they are old enough to breed I will have a couple. Love the video and keep up the great work you do

    • @OlympusReptiles

      They do have fairly large teeth, which gives some people pause. Truthfully, I haven't been bit since this snake was still fully Yellow.

      No guarantees on colors with these, but if you contact a designer breeder they can give you the best chance

    Please correct me if I’m wrong but when I was doing research on these guys I had read that about once a month or so you should put them in a rain chamber to be able to poop or shed because in the wild they wait till a heavy rainfall so everything is washed away and there is no scent where they are hunting I’m not sure how true that is though

    • @OlympusReptiles
      @OlympusReptiles  5 років тому

      I can't tell you the reason (but what you read sounds legit) but many people do have poop issues. They typically feed small meals, and wait for a bowel movement before adding more often. Anyway, I haven't done a rain chamber, but do frequently heavily mist. We haven't had any issues with this one. Did lose a baby though to stuck urate :(

    • @brennannowlin1326
      @brennannowlin1326 5 років тому

      That is a method to help induce a bowel movement, yes. Everyone has their own tips and tricks! I have not personally tried this, but I know alot of people who have and swear by it. I don't know of anyone who does it on a schedule though, more like as needed. No reason to unnecessarily stress out a snake. Another great method is to handle the snake and let it get some exercise. A theory for their frequent constipation is that they are more sedentary in captivity. Hope that helps!

      If you provide your chondro with space and branches come see him at 1 in the morning hell b using every inch of his tank.they dont just sit there like everyone says they do.honestly mine has plenty space i feed at night,my snakes are very active at night any new branch i put in there all over it,they get plenty excersise between meals looking for food in their enclosure.u dont need a rain chamber.i raise my humidity only during shedding and i get full 1piece sheds almost everytime.

    Which is easier to handle, a green tree python or an emerald tree boa?

    • @OlympusReptiles
      @OlympusReptiles  5 років тому

      I have very little experience with emerald, so I really can't give a solid answer

    • @emiliocastro2433
      @emiliocastro2433 4 роки тому

      Neither is easy.you have to work with them a little more then u have tto with a ball python.but if u put in thework most usually tame down pretty good.as far as which is easier.i personally work with both.look at pictures of the gtp teeth and the emerald ,think about their size and tell me who would u rather b bitten by if u had to pick.?gtp right?theres your answer then.

    Or maybe they are red n yellow as babies to represent that they "venomous" or "poisonous"animal like a king snake almost looks like a highly venomous coral snake ?

    • @gusc6785
      @gusc6785 3 роки тому

      Yellows n reds usually are warning colors to others

    • @OlympusReptiles
      @OlympusReptiles  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, the bright colors can mimic. I remember reading somewhere with these that it was due to changing locations with age though. Where I read that, I honestly can't remember. Might have been a scientific peer reviewed paper. Might have been crap, lol.
