Something that I love most about this is that the snow cover paired with the image placement on the front cover reminds me of a composition notebook, which I think is really sweet. Gives this journal-type-feel but it is so subtle.
I live in northern Alaska where the winter is a lot like this but colder, sometimes it’s hard to be motivated to get out and shoot but seeing an outsider perspective on a similar location is definitely inspiring. Keep up the good work Willem!!
This channel is really inspiring man. There’s something about seeing somebody in the stages of putting work together and taking you along with them on the journey which is really special. Big up Willem 🙌🏾
Wow, just went to your channel to get some inspiration for Photo Zines. Seeing you uploaded this 12s ago. Crazy. Thanks for sharing your work and process mate
that frozen boat shot is so dope man! also it is so good to hear that you managed to combine film and digital in one project. personally I am shooting both digital and film but I can see myself being a bit hesitant sometimes if I can combine both formats but you def inspired me to do so here!
Looks like Polar Night from Mark Mahaney. Oh and for the RZ I send my RB always to the last Dutch Mamiya service center and the guy told me once that the RZ's always jammed in the winters also there battery drained a lot. He gave me the tip to wind and shoot the shutter for about 5 min straight and if you have a RZ keep the battery in your pocket for a while to make it warm before shooting in the cold.
Really cool vid man thanks for the tips. I'm not a photographer I'm a street artist but I've just received my first test copy of my photography book. It's a dope feeling and super cool to see peoples reactions when they find out they are in it.
Willem this looks incredible I will def be ordering one. Thanks for keeping me inspired with film, my darkroom class got ruined by quarantine but I just picked up some portra 160 yesterday and am renting a Mamiya C3 for the week, super hype to shoot my first medium format! Cheers
I think the price there set at is more then enough if not enough because of the time and effort applied and the thought behind it and besides most books these days are that price so I think the zine speaks for itself
I’m curious, why do you tend to call your books zines? Zines are typically low cost and often handmade. I look at them more as photobooks because of the quality of materials and printing. And I can’t imagine how much you spent on this project. I got one of my books printed and only a hundred copies was a lot.
Agree with this. A zine generally implies some DIY essence... home printed, low quality, stapled, small run, etc. This very beautiful offset-printed Swiss-bound book is def not a zine... and you should be proud not to call it one, Willem!
I was wondering the same thing. But I guess words evolve with time, different generations will find different meaning behind a word. His generation and culture have gotten used to calling these type of books ‘zine’’s, maybe because they associate the construction with annual magazines.
AlphaCole I’d always search local first, it will give you a better insight into the process and how your books are being made. There’s also a better possibility in getting a cheaper price. You can always go with an online option like blurb which has a plugin with Lightroom but just understand it can be a bit more limiting and not always the best print quality.
why do photographers make the a big secret of who they print with? it would seem that directing potential business of 210,000 subscribers to your printer (esp if you're happy with their work) would be a great reason to disclose that. maybe i'm missing something, would love to hear the reasons why this is such a taboo.
I love your work so much!!! I’m going to preorder your zine when I get paid this Friday I hope they don’t sell out please save me one! Been watching your videos for a long time now and you’ve motivated me so much to make my own videos so thank you
One thing that I've learned over time is that if you want the "film look" on digital, you really don't need to do much. People often consider that "film look" to be the way that expired or pushed film looks -- but if you want if to look like fresh, properly exposed film, there's very little that needs to be done to your digital photos. Also don't add grain. please, for the love of god, don't add grain to your digital photos (unless it's part of the idea/concept, then by all means go for it)
Dude, you should have your name on the cover of the actual zine, but printed in the negative space of the snowflakes on the dust-cover, so when it's on, your name will stand out, and when it's off, your name will look snowy as well
Geez the zine literally cost Willem his beanie.
hahahahhahaaha
Bet he's hiding smth behind that pony
This is gold
how much was it???
Damn, Willem has been wearing his beanie so long his hair has almost become one
Willem looking good without a beanie 😂
Something that I love most about this is that the snow cover paired with the image placement on the front cover reminds me of a composition notebook, which I think is really sweet. Gives this journal-type-feel but it is so subtle.
The way you jumped for the doorbell warmed my soul
Seeing how excited you were to get the sample shows how dedicated you are to your craft. Love to see it

Real OGs were here before Willem ever wore a beanie. ✊🏻 edit : 6:45 is brilliant.

Very inspiring, I hope to make a zine by the end of this year
WHO PRINTED IT?
Not sure what the point is of not sharing it...
@@Through-the-gift-shop maybe you should read the video description first. You'll know who designed it and printed it
@@BadBrainMagic pretty sure that Mattias only designed. There is no info on the print shop that executed the work...
Because you have to Pay for commercial. Crazy
Perhaps do a review of that Krasnogorsk 3 behind you ;) 0:40
good video bro🙌🏼

Adonis Archontides yes absolutely! He should be proud to call it a photo book
any one know of some great places to get your books/zines printed???

Are you still planning on doing a review on the infinity stylus?

I agree. A good image will shine through film or digital. It’s just a means to an end result.
I would love a video on how you pair images for zines and books with examples from the zines you’ve created.
It's SOLD OUT! Will you reprint more of this beautiful zine?
is that a bolex
gonna pre order rn if it’s not too late !
I'm so sad that it's sold out. Hopefully there's another run in future?
Hi Willem! The link to your site for the zine is not working.
what printing company did you use??
how did you compensate for the iPhone light on the shot of the boat?
How did you meter for the extra light you added with your iPhone and your flash?
He never hesitates when the door bell rings
Willem, it would be so fun to go on a shoot with you. Sometime in the future maybe.
rad!
hope youre all good homie.
