    My son (24) got one for Christmas, the Quest 3, and I'm totally obsessed with it. I have been traveling to different places. There's no way to see all the beauty's of the world, but i can narrow down my must visit ones with this technology. I have a BA in Anthropology so I enjoy visiting historical sites. This helps preserve these landmarks by reducing the wear and tear we put on these historical places.

    In 1995 or '96, I studied business management at DeVry University. I was part of a team that developed a business plan for VR vacations. Our inspiration came from a Dave and Buster's entertainment facility that was next door that just got its first pair of Cyber 1000 CS virtual reality arcade platforms. We were in awe of the potential the virtual reality entertainment in the future could provide. We had no idea that 30 years later it would mature into this. Two business leaders and the President of DeVry were to listen to our business proposals and provide fictitious funding that would match our grade. My team received a 'D' on our VR vacations business plan. It pains me every time I see an article on virtual reality and the grade my team received in DeVry's business management course during that timeframe in my life. Small minded business leaders giving Futurists a low passing grade.

    Just last night playing mini golf and Catan with my best friend from High School. 1200 miles (5 states apart). It feels more real than zoom and is fun!

    I workout in VR on multiple apps and spend hours dancing in virtual clubs on Altspace. It's been very good for my mental and physical health during the last year.

    None of them are wearing the Quest 2 properly 😒. 1. Don't use stock head strap. 2. Regardless of the strap used balance so that weight is distributed evenly and not applying more pressure on forehead or cheeks/lower face. If you wear like the video you will 100% get a migraine and intense burning pain in neck or head. 3. The Nat Geo videos shown would obviously give anyone new motion sickness (or even myself after 8 months of daily use). Ease into VR with things labeled with green in the oculus store that indicates comfort with little chance even new players/users would get sick. Leave anything moderate or intense (labeled yellow and red) for after you're experienced. In my case I only motion sickness 1-2 times and I'm hyper prone to motion sickness. After they enabled 120hz (not supported by every app/game yet) it makes the biggest difference and way more comfortable.

      I cringed at the way they had the Quest 2 on. Default headstrap and sub-optimal strap placement. I'm too spoiled with my modded Quest 2 that I use to play PCVR wirelessly.

      Google, Microsoft, Twitter, ... does it really make a difference? You want significant changes in how and what personal data companies are allowed to use, then you need to go for the root cause (laws and punishment) and not symptoms (companies doing and pushing boundaries of what is legally allowed).

      @coolertuep 3 роки тому +1

      It’s already pretty close to normal sight seeing, it’s basically almost the same effect for what you expierence. A normal video channel is vastly different, lacks all immersion. I’m sure in the future we will be able to „take people with us“ traveling using vr and it will be really cool

      I mean the tech is around for 5 years now, got anything discovered that could harm kids yet?

    • @Cimlite
      @Cimlite 3 роки тому

      @@coolertuep I doubt the amount of kids under 13 that had access to VR prior to the Quest and Quest 2 headsets coming on the market were a tiny group... so I don't think there is 5 years of data on this. Not to mention that lots of things like nearsightedness is on the rise, and has been as screen usage has increased over the last decade... probably extremely difficult to tell any difference between VR usage and regular screen usage nowadays. Not without a very well funded study anyway, which to my knowledge has never been done. There is a reason why every manufacturer of VR headsets recommends kids _not use them_ for extended periods of time - it would make sense if focusing on around 2m for hours on end isn't all that great developing children. And they know this.
      (and neither is prolonged screen use of any kind really, especially for kids)
