Help!!! How do i make my songs sound different! They all sound the same, same emotion, despite having different characters!

Musically? Structurally? Lyrically? Say a little more about the issue for me

@@musicaltheatrewriterguy I don’t know how to switch from verse to chorus cleverly, it just sounds like two different songs alternating. That’s for every song I try to write… And I don’t know how to make the characters sing in different emotions, wether they’re happy or sad, it’s always just looong notes held at the end of either the song or the chorus. High, low, whatever, it doesn’t feel right; it doesn’t feel like anything!! It just gets boring… Does this make sense?😭

I have a character who’s grumpy all the time; his songs don’t sound different to the ones of my always-happy character

@@3bah4y Yes, makes total sense. I know what you mean! I'd be happy to have a short chat with you about this to see if I can be useful, but beyond that I would start playing around a little more with various techniques - changing chord structures, rate of lyrics, melody speed and range, phrase lengths, rhythmic schemes in the accompaniment, etc. Maybe diving into a little more music theory could be useful to smoothing out your transitions as well. And when in doubt, sit down with you favorite musical theatre songs and study them!
