The story missions are hardly even deserving of being called story missions as they’re basically... just side missions.

Although there are a few exceptions, I agree. It never felt as though the main quests you complete drive the story.

Yeah i know what you mean. Like liberating falls end felt like a real set piece important story missions and it was followed up by a real cutscene but. They managed to make Nick Rye feel like a real character so i’ll say the mission where you get his airplane back for him felt real. Defending the jail felt good, but then the rest of the quests in Faiths region all felt like little garbage side missions. Just seemed lazy in comparison to the first island i liberated. But then it got me thinking, was the first region kinda weak but it just didn’t sink in yet ?
I think it’s less noticeable in the first region.

For me, Jacob's region was the biggest failure. Getting whisked away to "Cull the Herd" got annoying, and I get the part about you having to be indoctrinated into this soldier and all, but it felt so forced that I was never involved in it. I couldn't wait to finish his region.

Great i saved his for last haven’t done it yet. Just about done Faith’s but I unno. It’s felt so underwhelming so far.
I’m still waiting for a story mission that doesn’t involve go from point A to point B and kill said amount of enemies in an outdoor environment.
They don’t have any indoor environments to change anything up or make the missions stand out or feel separate. Keeping everything outdoors is what is leading to all the missions feeling so “side questish”. Farcry 3 had missions in temples, missions in caves, missions in fortresses.... there was lots of variety.
Differenn missions required different tactics. This one you can literally complete all the campaign missions mopping enemies up from inside a helicopter
They all feel like pointless fetch quests for characters i don’t give two shits about. Nothing exciting or interesting ever happens in the storywise during the campaign. I’m kinda mad this game slipped under the radar with great reviews... it’s such a joke.

Just found your channel through your NBA 2K review!
I loved playing this game and I even found myself coming back even after the story. Yeah the story is not really that good, missions are tedious and there are a LOT of problems, but it was so fun to play.
I would just drive around with the hud off and admire the environment. If you haven’t tried turning off the hud and putting the brightness all the way down, I highly recommend it. It makes the game look so much better.
This game is not for everyone and they could have done a better job with the story. Even so it’s one of my favourites from last year!

I see where you're coming from, I did have fun playing around in the sandbox with all of the mechanics. Overall, it just felt grindy and empty, like after a couple of hours I did all there was to do. But it was a good game
