I was literally just search for the right place to request a Reverb master-class from Dom Sigalas. This is perfect timing. I would only add that with so many reverb options it is sometime difficult to relate they type of reverb control with the specific mood we are trying to approach. Thanks much for these fantastic and helpful videos!

Capitol Hills Chambers by UA is amazing. Love the fact they give you an 'unrealistic' decay letting you shorten it way down. It gives sources this realistic 'air' to them when used subtly - but of course you have to be on UA and even on sale the plugin isn't cheap.

Valhalla and lexicon used to be my go-to's, but lately LiquidSonics' Cinematic Rooms has replaced probably 90% of all my reverb needs. Lighter cpu usage than seventh heaven and it sounds absolutely amazing.

Thank you for this, Dom--great video! I've always loved Lexicon reverbs and thought there could be none better for those tails that melt and blend into the mix...until I heard the VSS3! Wow. Just like you describe, you can make them nearly invisible to where you don't hear the reverb so much as it just makes things bigger and more clear--separating the source while also making it blend into the mix. Amazing reverb.

My personal favorites are UVI Sparkverb and Plate. And I use Blackhole quite often when you want a real effect, but the rest of the Eventide H9 series reverbs are also good.

Though I don’t use ANY hardware anymore, my tc M5000 has such priceless reverbs, I’m keeping it forever, just on principle. It has the factory 20 bit converters, which sound better than anyone’s 24 bits. tc made exquisite hardware in this period of years.

  • @earlsfield

Great video. Arturia's software emulations are great, but in this case, Plate Reverb really needs some post processing, mainly eq, (in general plate reverb by nature and mode of operation is prone to create nasty resonant frequencies you might not want - so a few notch filters can help you there, to keep that dirty plate tone. I use many different reverbs on vocals, depending of the application really, I grew up as a producer using Lexicon reverb as an ultimate reverb - although my first reverb unit was Alesis Quadraverb I have till this day - and I will state few maybe unconventional reverbs for vocal applications:
Eventide space - set as send effect on aux on your mixer, works wonders with am algo on - will need some eq in too sometimes
Gamechanger Audio - Light Reverb - such and odd spring reverb for equally odd but great reverb on vocals - maybe not as your classic hall, butto be set as secondary short reverb and mixed in with the main one
For the best classic reverb stuff I would say Lexicon PCM96 is absolute monster.
I dont't own one but Bricasti model 7 is beautiful, I tried it out on a few tracks, it has great algos. Worth noting that I am jet to hear good emulation of Bricasti reverb that gives that authentic grittiness and granular character.
    Any TC electronics works too.
From soft versions as of recent I am using Phoenix Verb more and more, it is so crystal clear that its almost an effect in its own way, since reverb nature is to be gloomy.
For classic vocals - either Lexicon set of hall/spring/plate/room OR Altiverb with bunch of great impulse responses
Reverb is such an amazing effect, you might find impulse response of a car to perfectly fit your vocals, or to work as a slapback effect. Explore Altiverb as, aside from emulations of all classic gear, it also has tons of weird impulses. And of course, you can try your own.
Babyaudio really surprised me with Spaced Out. It is a great plug, although i mostly use it on percussion and synths.

      I agree, that’s why I say it’s not beautified. :) I always EQ to sweeten it :)

I also had an Alesis Quadraverb + - great unit. Used to send my Roland Juno 106 synth through it, sounded fantastic. I also really like Phoenix verb. I was using Nimbus by Exponential Audio a lot too but it doesn't play well yet with Monterey, which is slightly annoying.
