I never guessed that your new tool was a spatula! LOL! It's a good tool, and that's all that matters anyway. I love to watch you coloring, no matter what you are using. You are so talented. Thanks again, Jennifer!
Wow! What an amazing discovery and THANK YOU for sharing it with us, your fans. My head feels swollen with the amount of knowledge it has "soaked up" from you in all your videos. You are a wonderful asset to all of us colorists!
Try the Tombow colorless blender marker for gel pen blending. Keep a paper towel near forgiving between use just as you probably wipe the build up other tip other gel pens between use. It works great and blends beautifully!
That is unbelievable! I've had two of those spatulas for years, and never thought about using them for my art work! At least having two, I can relocate one permanently to my craft room, and not have to run to the kitchen every time I want to use it for colouring with gel pens :-)
Thank you. Great tip. Hmm, I wonder if the silicon modeling tools used for pastels and clay would work. The modeling tools are handy dandy right here in my place already. Maybe I’ll give it a go and get back to you.
Uniball signo is by far the best white highlighter tool I have used and gel pens are such a pleasure to work with especially highlighting over other meduims like charcoal. They just make everything pop and they barely bleed unlike regular ball point inks.
OMG..... what a fabulous idea!!!!! I watched this while my husband and I are out running errands. My final stop on our way home is the dollar store. Thanks so much!!!!
How fun! And so much less messy than fingers :) I have been coloring since I was a little girl, I guess I've never stopped. When I began teaching adult education in a corrections facility, I brought coloring in as a stress buster. Surprisingly, not only did my women love it, but my men are absolutely enamored! I have some extremely talented folks, and though I can't use fancy pens and such, they love using colored pencils and creating. I am so glad I found your site- will be printing pages for my students to use....Thanks again~
OMG Jennifer!! I'm so amazed with you my lovely generous friend. If anyone could work this out, for all us gel pen lovers, then it had to be you! Thank you so much for sharing this fab tip. The results you got with your beautiful colouring of the autumn leaves mandala, was just gorgeous and more realistic than anything we could usually achieve with the beloved gel pens. Loved that finished page by the way. Lastly, I always notice your nails and today's were just stunning. Always love watching your videos Jennifer. Sending love and hugs from Liverpool UK 👍😍💗
+Andrea C, I'm glad you liked the finished coloring page as much as I do! It was so fun to watch those lovely autumn colors come together on that page. You are such a sweetheart Andrea...you always make me smile. 😁
Great idea, Jennifer! I was playing in a coloring book with my gel pens, yesterday, and had the same problem of the paper starting to peel and break down when I attempted to blend two colors. I had already watched this video, yet it did not become handy until I started trying to do the same thing with my pens. The word is actually "mottled". I know this from studying outdoor plants. I had a plant called "Columbine". It is a shade plant. If it receives too much sun then the leaves being to variegate, thus the mottled effect. Maybe Autumn leaves change colors because they are affected by the sun, too. Thank you for creating these videos. They inspire me to use my supplies instead of just looking at them on the shelf. You have a beautiful voice. Very soothing to my ears.
+Wendy Frances Milone thanks for the plant info...I don’t have much of a green thumb...unless I’m using green gel pens 😉💚. I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
I'll use my makeup sponge and see if that works first. The coloring is AMAZING. I just ordered 120 gel pens from Amazon and a garden coloring book! I feel like I'm 5! 😘💖😘💖😘🤗🌻
always been interested in the engineering of the human hand , and im watching and learning while watching your hands with the sound down lisening to the band gong lp i am your egg , and it feels magical . thankyou , just started getting into gell pens .great medium....

+craftygirl purple62, glad you like it! Think how pretty this would be done with links and purples on spring blossoms! Can't wait to draw new coloring pages for spring!
Great tip! I never even thought to take the silicone ends off permanently (I had purchased a couple a while ago to use as paint brushes like Catalyst brushes on my gel press- I even cut a few designs into the silicone for different patterns). And actually, after you take the silicone off, you have 3 tools! The handle makes a great stir stick 😉
I looked at my 100 gel pen set everyday n try to figure out what to do with it.. Now i know what to do.. I love coloring n this tool n ideas r great.. Thank you so much!!
Oh my.im glad.i found ur channel.. I love my coloured pencil.colourings but gel.pends and markers are not my best choice but ur videos have shown me some.techneques I can use in my colouring on my channel... keep.them coming xx
Wow! You just opened my eyes in so many ways! LOVED this video! I can hardly wait to get to my dollar store and buy that silicone spatula! I love gel pens and just received a new set of them in the mail. I can hardly wait to try out this technique! Fabulous video!
wow I have a ton of gel pens and that exact spatula in my kitchen that I bought of course at my local dollar store for my vitamix. It has a whole new lease on life!
Thank you for this video, ive been wondering how to blend scratchy gel pens because your right, it does ruin the project your doing, luckily I used to do baking and have a silicone spatula for cakes in my baking box, but I didnt know you could use the silicone spatulas to help with blending but now I do and thank you you just saved my gel pen project :)
This is a handy way to spread the ink thinner. (I came across this while looking for a way to mix gel inks together.) You should try this using 2 or 3 colors to spread together. I find that with my gelly pens, to get a good glob of wet ink down, once the ink is flowing well in the pen, if I tap in one spot, rather than scribbling it works a bit better. Sometimes, the tiniest wiggling/vibrating movement can get it flowing, too. (Then lightly tapping) That, and using the thicker nibbed gelly pens, work well too. The thicker, the layer of ink layed down, the more intense the color will look. I haven't tried using a spatula, but i imagine that you can control this by the amount of pressure used, and how far your spreading it. Thanks for the video!
i haven't used my gelpens for coloring b/c i dont like the look, but have always loved colored ink to write, so have tons of pens. i just got a really cheap double ended nail art tool that is silicone tipped to write on my gel plate, i will so be trying this technique out and maybe rediscover coloring with my gel pens.
I like using a really small pointed paintbrush to blend gel pens but my brush got kinda messed up somehow so I'm definitely going to try this out tonight since I haven't been coloring because of the brush being messed up lol
+Marissa Strull, yes! I tried the paint brush too...and I tried water with my brush and a bunch of other things. The slilicone spatula is the best solution yet! Have fun. 😊
This is a great tip! You should try Elite Gel/Glitter Pens. I got mine today and I love them. The ink flows out so good. I also bought my first Gelly Roll Pens and they came today too. I love them! They are Glossy 3D Glaze.Im going to save up so I can buy more.
I love your videos and the silicone spatula trick. in one of your videos you mentioned vaseline, can you lead me to where I can find that information? thanks
How did you come up with this technique? I've seen just about every tool & trick out there but this is really great & saves your finger from smearing two colors together.
I use one of the white vinyl erasers in the same way. I use a razor knife to cut a small slice off the end so it's easy to get in the little areas as well as the big ones. Works like a charm. You just have to make sure you have smooth cuts or it won't blend your ink evenly.
+Carmen Baez, oh...isn't that a cool coloring table?! It is by Totally-Tiffany.com. I did a review on it along with their color keeper. I believe it's called the rotating design board.
I never guessed that your new tool was a spatula! LOL! It's a good tool, and that's all that matters anyway. I love to watch you coloring, no matter what you are using. You are so talented. Thanks again, Jennifer!
So glad i found this video! You have one of the best art channels. Love your work Jennifer

+Lynne Bailey, such a nice compliment, thank you! Have fun coloring!
Isn't amazing with what you can find in your house as an art tool. Thank you for sharing this !!!
Try the Tombow colorless blender marker for gel pen blending. Keep a paper towel near forgiving between use just as you probably wipe the build up other tip other gel pens between use. It works great and blends beautifully!
An amazing process. Very beautiful Jennifer. Who would have thought you could blend like that with gel pens. Thank you!
That is unbelievable! I've had two of those spatulas for years, and never thought about using them for my art work! At least having two, I can relocate one permanently to my craft room, and not have to run to the kitchen every time I want to use it for colouring with gel pens :-)

Uniball signo is by far the best white highlighter tool I have used and gel pens are such a pleasure to work with especially highlighting over other meduims like charcoal. They just make everything pop and they barely bleed unlike regular ball point inks.
What a great technique and such a bonus that a cheap dollar store spatula works wonderfully well. Thanks so much for sharing this!

Have fun trying it...embrace the smear!
This is a handy way to spread the ink thinner. (I came across this while looking for a way to mix gel inks together.) You should try this using 2 or 3 colors to spread together.

+Christy Essen, I hope you do try it and love it as much as I do! Gel pens are still on of my favorites!

You should try the silicone nail art tools for this. It's smaller than the spatula and get in tight spaces
Maybe, but who needs the expense when this tool does the job soooo well.
All my gel pens do not have the color name, or color # . but thank you for your video especially on blending it has helped me a lot
THANKS FOR THE TIP , WHEN COLORING.
