Austin, thanks so much for this. I am 58 years old and have dabbled in audio production for about 20 years and I’m starting to take it more seriously and hope to release some music next year. It’s comforting for someone such as myself to know that I am heading in the right direction. Thanks so much for this great content. 👍👍👍
LOVED it! Here’s the timestamps if anyone is interested 😊 2:38 Adding modulation (chorus, doubler, etc) 5:33 using reverbs 9:15 Adding delay 14:07 Layering Vocals 17:15 Using FX in moderation
@@thesuncollective1475 of course! Sorry for the late reply..youtube is funny with comment replies sometimes. They won't notify you of replies until your comment blows up with likes
It's nice to see you are basically doing most of what I already do when I ensure width in vocals. I like the song you're working on - hope it's a success!
i just really love how austin keeps things SOO community based.. like in 1:25, he encourages people to interact to help each other out, plus the fb is grp is literally AMAZING!!! Keep up the best man..
How about intimate acoustic music? Like just 1 track guitar, 1 track lead vocals, perhaps some harmonies. You cant really double the lead vocal cause it would sound unnatural. Do you just use a lot of delay and reverb to make it sound huge and wide?
I would just keep the vocal nice and center with some short room reverb to spread it just a little and a longer hall or plate delay to give it some depth
Best Cubase channel on here along with Chris at Mixdown Online. Vocals are a minefield man... so many inserts, sends, layers etc. Imma be here a while, ha! Thanks for the great content, Austin. :-)
Awesome video. Please make a tutorial on vocal mixing from start to finish. Even charge for it like your other full courses. That would be really great. Thank you.
PLEASE dont tell me im the only one duplicating the lead vocal track, boost up the reverb wetness and add an iZotope Vocal Doubbler (with effect only ofc...) at the beginning of the chain... no?
Great video.... selfish request for a video... something like the “initial song conception, scratch tracks, through this end version of the song” ... thanks for all your content, it’s great.
This is super helpful. A little bit wet but I like it a lot. Can you do a video on Goniometer reading? Analyzing the visual spectrum to help compensate from the faultiness of our ears
Thank you so much for those huge tips ! I can't find the video where you explain the processing of your sends, did you release it already or am I blind ? haha Again thank you Austin !
Hello Austin! Thank you for all your tutorials.. I'd like to ask you something: How can I substitute the Studio D Chorus with Doubler4 from Waves ? Which settings am I supposed to use? Thank you so much!
Hi. Great tutorial. At the moment I am experimenting with adding a further double in the middle. Unfortunately I get phasing problems in mono. Does anybody deal with the same problem?
Sir we would like to have scratch to song kind of vedeo for producing pop songs. Since it gonna be long u can divide it into different parts.lots of love♥️♥️ and blessings.
So for the vocal layering what are some tips you recommend for the artist who has to record multiple versions of the same melody or hook? I would like to explain the technique to an artist but how should I explain it? Do they always need to sing the same part differently? Can they sing the vocal the exact same way and will I still be able to mix for the same affect? Like the pitched down track that’s super low did you have them sing that differently?
I would have them sing sections identically if they want it really stacked and tight. So for the main melody, track it 3 times as identical as they possibly can. Then you tune it, time align it, and process it. Do the same thing with any harmonies or layers. I prefer it all to be sang and performed as close as possible unless they want that loose choir sound. All of the FX style vocal tracks like the pitched down vocal, or any time I do a wide crushed vocal, that is just the main vocal track duplicated onto a new track. Since you add so much spatial processing and change the sound completely, you won't have phase issues like you would just duplicating a vocal and panning it :D
@@MakePopMusic Thanks so much man, I just added it to my playlist. Your tutorials have been super helpful to say the least. Im recording vocals in FL studio but my bgv doesn't seem as "big" when I wide pan like you do and I'm using stereo plugins. Anyway.. keep up the awesome work I'll be tuned in.
Sometimes. Just make sure you use something that will time shift them and pitch shift them a little if you’re trying to widen them by duplicating the main vocal. You won’t get phase issues from the short reverb or slapback delay normally.
Yep! Just accumulated stuff over the past 7 years. Waves stuff goes on sale for super cheap, I got the Platinum bundle for like $250 a few years ago. Slate stuff is all on a subscription plan so I just pay $15 a month for all of those, Fabfilter always runs crazy Black Friday deals so I got their bundle a few years ago for 50% off, and the UAD stuff is actually expensive but it's worth it! Buying plugins never feels fun, but it becomes a necessity the more you work! :D
Thank you so much for this, i’ve been working on my voice. Just tried out to make my own song. It is my first song and it’s not that good, these videos help a lot though. My song is on my channel if you want to check it out!

I like the song you used for this video a lot! You should make more tutorials on this specific song breaking down the instrumental as well!

I like re-tracking the mono vocals to stereo, to have more freedom. Stereoflip is a funny thing, just a trick to draw whenever one wants/needs.
This might be your best video! Great job!

i appreciate all of your videos so much, they help a lot fr. thank you so much, I can’t wait for this track to be out btw :)
WOW... That was extremely helpful.. Thank you so much.. Incredible young man..
Amazing tutorial! One question, how to set of "Vocal verb"?
I just set up an FX track in Cubase, throw on Verbsuite with the settings in the videos and blend it in as a send on the vocal tracks!
@@austinhullmusic Thanks! will try that.
you're great.
You're a genius thank you

Can you go through how you made the instrumental for this song as well?
He sorta did..in the "how to add ear candy" vid.
thank you bro
Is the doubler also used on back ups?
Brother i am from India and i have a pop song recorded but i want u to mix it. so pls tell me the price
Would be interested in your vocal chain!
GREAT, DO YOU HAVE SOMETHING ABOUT VOCAL STACK ,MIX AND MASTER?
Thank you very much for all the valuable information you give us.🤜🏼
Great voice & great vocal production! What’s your pick for an alternative to Roland Dimension D (for those who don’t have UAD interfaces)?
Definitely microshift by Sountoys 😁

What are the intervals you are using for the vocal harmony 1 and 2? Thirds, fifths? Thank you.
Just whatever sounds best. I just try a few and pick my favorite.

is this bass in one of your preset packs?
How about using tremelos between reverbs

Slate ML1 :D
how did you do the vocoder with?
are the left and right vocals new records/takes or just "copys" (copy/paste) from the lead vocal? great videos dude!
New recordings! If you just copy and paste it, it will just phase itself out and go back to the middle.

You are really smart about the music production and mixing things, why don't you try other genre like EDM, rock and other.
I started in rock! I just got burnt out and pop keeps me interested because there is such a wide range of projects in this sphere.
LOL I was just about to ask you how to get those wide type sound of vocals like for example Halsey especially her new song 'you should be sorry'
Her new album is NUTSSSS
