I know this video is a year old but I bought the same struts. My passenger one worked great driver side pushed my hood forward 1/4 inch and bent my hood hinge. Did both struts the same way. Tried to push hood back but to hard so have to figure another way to move hood back on the driver side. Great video many other have the ones with more brackets which might of been easier. PS mine also doesn't lift up on it's own
Jeez! I'm really sorry to hear that happened. It sounds like the piston may have been mounted too close-- meaning it wasn't able to compress any more when the hood was closed, pushing the hood forward.
