I just purchased a 2019 Tiguan in Aug 2023. I had to replace the batteries. I used these instructions to replace. I however only had a 2032 battery. No problem. I had to use the FLAT head screwdriver to hold the battery down as I manipulated the cover into place and press the cover down. If you don’t hold it into place you risk bending or puncturing the battery or even breaking the cover.
I have the same fob and all my other fobs used 2032 size batteries, so that's all I had on hand. I took out the 2025 and decided to try the 2032 as it's just a pinch thicker and it worked. The back went on no problem. The key fob is fully functional since the 2032 and 2025 batteries are both the same voltage.
Thanks for this! I just did it and it works! I waited a bit too long to change mine and one time it said something like "car will not start. Put key at designated spot." I put it next to the ignition and it started.
CR2032 is the most common battery. My 2013 Passat uses a CR2032 and I know the 2017 also uses a CR2032 but apparently at some point they moved to CR2025. Differences: CR2032 = 20mm wide x 3.2mm thick, CR2025 = 20mm wide x 2.5mm thick. Both are 3v nominal, the 2025 is just a bit thinner and has slightly less capacity. I used a 2025 in place of 2032 and had no issue as the contacts reached. Once your battery is around 2.80v it prolly still works butt should be replaced. New voltage depends on the cell but in general you want to see 3.10v or above.
Very helpful thanks. I have just bought a 2016 Tiguan second key flat battery so can’t start car with that as usual so will do what you have outlined and hopefully save myself a few pounds.
Opened my key fob with a chisel as needed a wider blade than my biggest screwdriver. My Tiguan is Jan 2016 automatic four wheel drive. My battery is 2032 3V
Good video. In my experience the 2032 works just fine in these fobs as well. Have to gently force it shut with the gasket/ back of the fob, but they're both 3V.
I have a 2019 Tiguan and my key fob isn't like this. The fob has a button and the key part slides completely out. So I was able to just use my fingernail and pop off the back cover (after seeing where the battery is in this one) and it's a 2032 button battery. Hope this helps someone else maybe!
Thanks! Driving the same car and its been a year, only got like 2000 miles on it(pandemic so i dont travel as much) and been asked to replace the battery, this helps alot!
Weird how not using the key drained yours. I was able to hand pry my open and use a steak knife (I was in the kitchen and the wife wasn't looking 🤭) and managed to perform this operation with successfully. Hope this will last longer than a year. I have a old 2009 Honda and changed the battery 2 times. Lol
Great video thanks. For anyone concerned about maybe damaging the plastic cover with the screwdriver, I personally was able to just pull on it with my fingers where you twist the screwdriver and it came right off without much force.
Great instructions! I have a pre-owned 2016 Tiguan. The fob looks slightly different but the process is the same. The battery inside was a 2032 and fortunately all the other car fobs in my house use that battery so we had plenty on hand.
Not true. I did buy a Panasonic 2032 and it is much thicker than 2025 which was the original one inside the key. I have to buy a 2025 locally this afternoon.
You failed to mention that you changed the battery now but you still can open your car by touching your handle now. Only with the button on your remote
Good call, for some reason my passive UNLOCK (hand inside door handle) stopped working after battery replacement. The passive lock works (touch outside of door handle) & all the buttons still work, just not the passive unlock. Anyone had this issue or know how to reprogram that aspect?

I have a VW 2019 Tiguan. This is the worst fob I have ever had. Battery lasts about 5 months, the 2025 battery. I have been locked out of my car 3 times with my kids, terrible VW Fob. The pop out key doesn't work on my door to open manually. So I now walk around with a spare battery in my wallet. VW can you please put a warning light on the Fob and give me a cut for my R&D idea.

Goat! explained very clear and you even went over little issues you might run into. 10/10
Love when my first search reveals a perfect result! Thank you - and yes - opening the package is the hardest part! 😬
Thank you for making this video! Finding the right parts for my ‘19 Tiguan feels like solving riddles half of the time.

Thank you for this video, the manual instructions were terrible. You made it very easy for me.
Awesome instructions for someone like me lol thank u. Went to gum and couldn't start my car love u❤❤❤❤
Thank you! Saved my day with your clear, excellently illustrated instructions.

Thank you! My 2019 Tiguan key fob is the same as yours. Confirmed that it also uses a 2032 button battery.
Very detailed video, thank you for making this video!

Thank you posting this sir! MUCH APPRECIATED!!
Used my thumb. Worked fine. Thanks for the video though. Was helpful!
I crammed a cr2032 3v into the battery compartment, works fine but u need to pop cover back on quickly or battery won't stay seated lol
True
Thank you so much😊 this was very helpful it worked on my VW Tiguan Allspace 2019 same battery
Thx bro ,found this very helpful for my 2019 tiguan fob
Thank you for posting this video! It really helped me. Great instructions.
This helped me. Thank you so much!
Good job, sir..it’s easy when you know how!
Job done👍
Funy. Vw misleading on the web, and tell you it is 2032 battaries. Thank you for video, i almost got the wrong battaries.
Thanks man this Video made it seem real easy
2032 is thicker than a 2025. The 2032 will not stay seated in the slot but you can still use it in the fob with the cap holding it in place😂.
Replace with a 2032 instead of the 2025. 2032 fits as well and it contains more joice and lasts longer.

I followed other tuber instructions for my 2019 Canadian 2032 batter and it definitely does not fit. The 2025 is the correct size.
Thank you for the video. It was easy to follow.
very good video. very informative and easy to follow along. thanks for posting
perfect obstructions… slow enough but not boring slow
Bra guide..tack
Thank you so much! Your video really helped me!
Good presentation, with all the pertinent details. :)
Thank you.
So many lanterns!
Tried 2032 first but it is much thicker than 2025 so I could not close the fob cover. I rushed to home depot to get one 2025 which fits well.
Thank you! By the way, your Tiguan looks just like mine!
Aint nobody going to talk about the endless amount of lanterns this guy has in his garage?
lol, I collect Coleman lanterns.
Cool thanks it’s was very helpful
😎👍
Thank you so much for this video. It is wonderful.
Thank you! Much appreciated
Very helpful! Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
That was perfect. Thank you.
Thank you job done
Thank you!
Thank you
Thanks, I needed this video !
Glad it helped.
if your keyfob battery goes dead, just put the keyfob next to the steering wheel column and push the start button and it will start...
I don't have a start button.
@@stuntcardriver ohhh ok..my bad
How do you start your car?
Great, thank you Sir!
Key car also has 30k that I needed to be replaced
Thanks for making this! 😎👍🏻
Thanks buddy
Very useful

Good video!
You failed to mention that you changed the battery now but you still can open your car by touching your handle now. Only with the button on your remote
I don't believe my car has that option.

Thanks!
Thanks for this! 👌
if one has keyless start, do we need to reprogram the key for it to work?
I am not sure. I wouldn't think so.
I have changed 3 batteries. It keeps the getting drained. How do I get to the circuit board to clean the contacts? thx in advance
Not sure on that, if you have a spare fob I would just use that one.

I believe there is something in the owners manual about this.
I have a 2019 tiguan and it doesn't use this key fob with a "switchblade" type key. Plus it uses 2032. Sure you car is a 2019?
Yes 2019 lowest trim model.
Same. I have the RedLine so maybe that's why.

Strange, I get a message on my console to "Replace key fob battery".
@Jennifer Battalin not with me. Like every 5-6 months the battery goes without warning. Was given new key for free, battery died after 7 months.
Got a few lanterns do you?
I collect them.
@@stuntcardriver Great video though
they keyfob range sucks even with new battery
lol
Bro you talk too much. It’s a battery replacement, not open heart surgery.
Thank you!
Thanks!
