I’m really excited to get into the crpg genre been wanting to for a while I think I’ll pick up balders gate 3 next week Kay gotta finish some games in working at the moment
It is a great entry point. And you don't really need knowledge of the previous games. There are plenty of references of course, but the game stands on its own perfectly fine
I have 60 hours of /played, it's...pretty much Divinity Original Sin 3, with less teleporting and telekinesis and more jumping around. It's a difficult game to play if you're short on time, not the thing you'd play if you get home from work...especially with the "dice" mechanics, where your dialogue options/actions can fail even if you're a master at everything - like, I had a 14 requirement for a locked chest and had 7 bonus rolls from gear+specialization....and I had to reload SEVEN times to get it!!! SEVEN TIMES. Meaning I couldn't roll 7 or more 7 times in a row...missing in combat or getting crit sucks, but you still feel some control over it, but when it comes to the /rollthedice, it's just annoying.
At last. Someone who know the key term. CRPG. Dammit. Took quite long to see that again after all these years. Been running and playing rpgs and when someone says rpg I think about real deal. Not a video game. Same with ttrpg that makes my skin crawl with poisonous vipers underneath. PS. ARPG is still CRPG. ;)
Thanks for sharing your experience. I used to play their previous cRPGs Divinity Original Sin 1&2. Bothe games were very good but I had issue with DOS2 as it started to drag the plot for far too long. Maybe it's just not my cup of tea. I have no doubt that BG3 is good, it's just a question if it has same/similar story tempo as DOS2
I feel so far, the story tempo is better and faster. I mean, it is still a long game, apparently 100h to complete. But the story beats are less scattered so far, as currently I'm 32 hours in. It is clear basically from the start what the overarching plot is, and it doesn't take you long to progress in that plot. But of course with at least 3 different ways of making it to the next plot point. But that is the beauty of a game like this.
I'm tempted but really don't enjoy too much dialogue or cutscenes in games , gameplay and more gameplay is my thing. I really don't know if I would enjoy.
If you're really not into that, then it isn't the game for you. But to be fair, I'm not a massive fan of all of that eother, necessarily, but this is all so well written and engaging, that I've come to appreciate it
Divinity 2 is my favorite game with nearly perfect combat system. baldur Gate 3 feels like crap. I just cant get past the dnd mechanics. it just wasn't created for pc and feels like crutches that I forced to use and understand if I want any kind of challenge in my game.
@@Thyworm no. bg3 uses 5e system. in div2 you have no dice, no small/big rest. and the same action points pool, that you can spend on movement or skills every round, plus 2 soul points for special skills.
Well said. Having a great time playing
I've never played a crpg and tbh it doesn't really look that appealing, but bg3 is popping off so hard I might just try it anyway
Ye you should. It is popping off for a reason after all

Ye exactly. Explorer mode for me just allows me to cruise through the combat a bit, although it can still be very brutal.
Digging the insight. Digging the game. It's a good combination. 👍
Haha, glad to hear

Divinity Original Sin 2 is also amazing.

@@Thyworm Thank you for the clarification. I appreciate it. I guess that is the reason why game exploded in popularity on Steam.

It's one of those games where you can skip the dialogue and exploration, but then you're not left with much.
If you're really not into that, then it isn't the game for you. But to be fair, I'm not a massive fan of all of that eother, necessarily, but this is all so well written and engaging, that I've come to appreciate it
I'm afraid to start with BG3. Because I'm afraid that after him, the other CRPGs will seem bland and incomplete.
Just wait for the next Larian game ;)

Wait. Doesnt divinity 2 use the same ruleset? You mean DoS 2, or the ancient very old divinity?

Ah I see.
My cup of tea. Perfect.
