Irish Concertina Music [Spirit Of Doolin] Featuring Aine O'Donoghue
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 чер 2019
- West of Ireland concertina music from talented local Aine O'Donoghue! Originally from Kilfenora, Aine has many connections to Doolin, Co. Clare. Her Grandparents owned Gus O'Connor's Pub and her Father Noel O'Donoghue carries the tradition there, playing in Doolin many nights of the week. Aine is one a wonderful group of up and coming young musicians that are playing music in the area. She grew up steeped in the tradition and you can see her regularly playing in the local session scene. She had two wonderful teachers: Edel Fox, who also teaches concertina on The Online Academy of Irish Music and Kilfenora Ceili Band's own Tim Collins.
We're really appreciate Aine's time and amazing energy in creating this clip. Let us know in the comments what you think, where you're watching from and ask any question you have about Irish music - Much LOVE from Ireland 🇮🇪

Big thanks to Spirit of Doolin and Gus O'Connor's Pub for being so amazing to work with. Thanks also to Charles Monod and Gerry Booysen on Camera and editing.
This video deserves wayyyyy more likes.
That was an absolutely beautiful performance.
Also, that pub looks very cozy.
If I didn't live in the world's tiniest apartment in a big city where every footstep is heard by neighbors, I would seriously consider learning the concertina.
Lot's learn in their car ...
HAHA THATS WHY i HAD TO QUIT TRUMPET LESSONS IN THIRD GRADE AFTER ONE DAY IN OUR nyc APARTMENT!
It's a year later and my husband bought me a concertina for an early birthday present. Funny enough, I actually did give myself my first lesson in my car and signed up for some classes nearby. Thanks for the inspiration!
@@nycgingercat good for you. Never let anything stop you from the joy that is learning an instrument.
Move out and live the dream, peaceee
Love,y tunes Aine👏🏼😊
This is one of my favorite concertina performances on UA-cam. I come back to listen again and again. Thank you!
Wow, thank you!
My mother's father was from Dublin and her mother was from Naples. My father's family came from Pilson Czechoslovakia. I sing, write and play cross harp which is 2nd position on the harmonica. It's a diatonic sound as is the concertina. I do believe I'm going to be taking up this beautiful instrument and learn how to play...
Good luck with it William !
Wow. I've been to this pub in Doolin. It's an absolutely lovely spot.
Such sweet playing, that to me is really Irish folk music in its purest form!
I don't know how to dance to this, but I would have a hard time sitting still!
The Cat's Meow was always one of my faves
My God, how wonderful.
Lovely!
A flamin virtuoso.....seriously. Superb.
Awesome performer
C’est très magnifique
Wonderful
Hurrah! What a wonderful performance! Dear performer! I congratulate and wish you all the best to perform well in more and more stages, recording studios, orchestras etc.
It is nice me too concertina I play my concertina and it is do nice to play it
One of the nicest instruments I've witnessed.
For sure :)
Wow that is Fantastic music I wish that I could play it! Dharian - 6 yrs old
Bravoooo.
I just bought one. I am waiting for it. I am so excited. There is something so mesmerizing about it and like brings back childhood memories too for some reason. Something so wholesome about it.
Hi Audrey, delighted to hear you've bought a concertina! What did you go for?
Simply beautiful. Just ordered my concertina and it shipped from Dublin today. Can't wait to get it and have been watching your videos to learn what I can until it arrives.
Hi Nathan, Did that arrive? What did you get?
@@onlineacademyofirishmusic Not yet. It's en route, but it's shipping from Ireland to the US so it'll probably be next week. I got a The Wren Anglo Concertina 2. I heard it's a really good entry level that won't break easily.
@@onlineacademyofirishmusic It arrived late last week and I was able to spend some time with it this weekend. I can badly play a few simple songs but I'm in love.
So this is what they look and sound like. When a woman in Virginia of Irish-Catholic heritage who was raised in Montana whose youngest brother (by 11 years) is a hero in my eyes passed away, the obituary said she loved to play music on this instrument
Bravo, très bien joué !
Cat's Meow! I love this song!
Weird experience lol, I love the dedication
Hiya, I'm from Lancashire in N.W. England with my Dad's family from Ballina and Killasey in Co.' Mayo.
Thanks very much for a great performance. xx
I'm a quarter Irish and I started learning the concertina to learn anything about my Irish heritage. Very beautiful playing!
Glad you like it ! Where are you from?
Online Academy of Irish Music since he didn’t reply I’m gonna bet like 80 miles from Boston. The closer you get the more Irish the people are lol
@@eiypo It's usually the culture that people come from. Irish people are very proud to be Irish and itallian people as well.
@@eiypo More and more newly minted Irish citizens go by the name "Mohammed". The way you see it, the Mohammeds and their relatives living in Ireland are Irish and I'm not.
@@Spoon80085 My family went to Brooklyn.
Fantastic!👍👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Love your playing and demeanor -a joy to listen to.
Thanks ! Make sure to subscribe to the channel for more music like this :)
This is so beautiful I would love to dance to it!
I'm here because I read about concertina in 'Pebbles on the Shore' by Alpha of the Plough. Surely one of pleasant sounds even for me, Japanese.
OK! Now I need a concertina lol
Yes !
This is so me. I find myself wanting just about every musical instrument I see. Lol.
be prepared to spend lol

@@onlineacademyofirishmusic Toronto, Ontario (Canada)! Signed up on your site pretty much right after I watched this (and the Bodhran videos you have!)
Delighted to hear it! Let us know how you get on with the site !
@@onlineacademyofirishmusic I love your site! I've watched through so many videos, and have started practicing some of the Mandolin songs.... I may or may not have also bought a Bodhran...thank you!
Ha! Glad to hear you're enjoying the site and learning some music :)
YOu are a fantastic artist! Love it!
Hi Mario, glad you liked it! Where are you watching from?
Good lass, well done
Hi Hernando, Glad you like it! Do you play music yourself?
@@onlineacademyofirishmusic Hi all, I play a little blues on the harmonica and some popular stuff on ukulele, both incredibly badly. I love Irish music, there is something about it that really touches the spirit, it's somehow unspoilt and when played traditionally, there's no better music
Aye this be why I bought me wren 😊
Love it ! Lot's of great concertina lessons on our UA-cam channel >> ua-cam.com/users/results?search_query=oaim+concertina
this is for you dave brennan
Ist das eine süße Concertina 😍
Hi Jürgen, Schön, dass es dir gefallen hat!
Her concertina is way nicer than mine!
Hi Marvin, it's a nice box alright - Wheatstone. What are you playing on?
Well done Aine! 😎🇮🇪🔥
What a beautiful music, could you tell me which are the tunes of that set ? Thank you so much and congrats for your amazing playing
The cats meow
The munster buttermilk
Just brilliant playing..... I play the banjo and my favourite jig is the cats meow......
Glad you liked it Robbie! Playing any session?
@@onlineacademyofirishmusic.. Am playing banjo about 3 years now... And i love it..... I try go to sessions wen i can and play the tunes am best at.... The good guys at the session play at my speed so am blessed.......lol
Keep playing Aine. I wish I could play like you. (We share the same surname) 🇮🇪😎
Hi Patrick, do you play concertina yourself?
Online Academy of Irish Music No I’m afraid not. I just love watching people playing though. I live just outside London but cannot find anywhere where they play traditional Irish music in pubs except in the very touristy areas where it is expensive. I was brought up on Irish music and love it 🇮🇪
Have you tried Comhaltas?
I really love concertina solo like this, so well played ! Bravo.
And beautiful sounding concertina, I personally prefer this sound over a Jeffries (is it a Wheatstone ?). The first jig is The Cat’s Meow jig but I didn’t catch the second one…:-/
Hi Nicolas, yes, it's a Wheatstone. How did you know?
@@onlineacademyofirishmusic
Ha ha kind of a wild guess ! Well there aren't thousands of maker so...And it does sound like a Wheastone.
It's my dream concertina but I need to get better first ;-)
And by any chance do you know the name of the second tune ? Thank you
@@jordan23184 That's the Munster Buttermilk.
This is wonderful music! Does anybody know what kind of concertina this is? I love Irish music, I got myself a tin whistle and still need alot of practise.
Hi Jo, Aine is playing a Wheatstone. How are you learning tin whistle? www.oaim.ie/tin-whistle/
@@onlineacademyofirishmusic Wheatstone English? Looks like my old Lachenal but with fancy plates?
It's an Anglo concertina, a completely different instrument from an English concertina.

i hope aine likes the comment i left
This is kind of late, but could you send a link to that concertina? Thanks.
It's a hundred years old :)
That one lady who just stared at the camera th9
Sounds like the music sailors on a ship would be playing.
woodlegs mains be like:
Can someone help me to know where to buy this instrument? I'm from Europe but I don't know where to buy a good one, thank you.
McNeala is a good place to start - mcneelamusic.com/ There's some instrument buying info on this page - www.oaim.ie/concertina/concertina-basics/
@@onlineacademyofirishmusic Thank you so much.
Turns out the Concertina was invented in england... The more you know
This looks very hard to play.
Very pretty music. The women in the back looks like somebody pissed in her Cheerios.
Sea of thieves?
A melody like that on a concertina shouldn't be played in complete silence with people staring. That's music for the bar and there should be a load of people singing withe the melody and cheering and clapping and stomping their feet. Anything less than that just feels lackluster.
great for sea shanties
