I did this as a soldier in the army in the beginning it was really uncomfortable/painful but I knew straight from the start that it was healthy. after just a few weeks I could take freezing cold showers in the dead of winter and at full pressure with almost no discomfort after the first minute. Everything he said in this video I saw in research studies and experienced first-hand. An additional benefit I didn't see listed here is self-discipline and will-power. Both of which do not come naturally and you must work on consistently in order to build them up and strengthen. Having the ability to excersize both to the extreme will make you that successful in pretty much anything you set your mind to.

Technique has been life changing for me. Please do not forget to recommend this for the women. Hope to never stop doing. Lowest temp 38. Longest time 5 min at 40. The Hoh river runs by my place. It is about 45 degrees. I love to sit in that glacier water. Try it you will like it.

Nevertheless, I started cold showering a few months ago, doing it on a daily basis. In the beginning it is awful, but once you get used to it, it is a blessing in the morning. I dare to say it is almost the same feeling as an orgasm. When I feel down and depressed I take an cold shower and feel immediately focused.
One tip is to get used to the cold showering doing your feet and leg first, then do the torso with deep breathing and from there do your face and hair.

Preaching to a choir member on this one. I grew up in Great Falls, Montana and during the winter it was cold shower or no shower. It took ages for the water to warm up and didn't last long. I don't think I ever really thought that warm or hot showers were better. Our pool in Hanoi gets pretty cold in the winter, around 50 degrees. My children love to dive in with me. For them it is a thrill. For me it is total relaxation. I often find my mind empty and just feeling relaxed and peaceful.

I did calisthenics and bodyweight exercises mostly, but I have found these extra tips of yours for these types of exercises to be far more effective and satisfying to me personally than any painful occasions before that in the gym. I started Wim Hoff's course in 2016, cold showers are the norm for me now. The most important things I took away from it were that the shock of the initial cold never goes away, but the speed at which you get used to it becomes shorter and shorter. And two, if you are feeling ill, give your body a break and stay out of the cold until you are feeling better. Cold exposure is a stressor and your immune system is expending resources trying to heal you. Put the cold on hold, just for a couple weeks.

    • @skysurfer
      @skysurfer 3 роки тому +24

@@matthewmurdoch6932 I think everybody sucks at it :) You'll probably have areas of your body that are more sensitive than others. For me it's my upper back and shoulders, but my hands and forearms are not as much. So I expose my hands and forearms first, then my face, feet, and hair. My torso/back and legs are last, and interestingly because the other parts have sensitized, it makes it a little easier. When you are first starting, move in and out of the water stream. No need to torture yourself. If you are only getting wet for five seconds, then back out and wait a few seconds before getting back in, you're on track, but try to get your whole body wet at some point even if it's for short durations. If you want a measurable challenge after getting wet, back out of the water stream and soap up your whole body/shampoo, and then rinse using the cold water. You'll have to hit your body parts multiple times to get the soap off and shampoo out of your hair, and it will force you to keep at it. Last tip is to either slow your breath or hold your breath when you get into the cold, and when you let your breath out, "force" it out like you are blowing a toy sailboat. Just try to control the reflex of gasping, and you'll send a message to your brain that this is not a life or death situation (even though it kind of feels like that at first).

It takes like 2 weeks and after that you do not care much about the cold anymore. The biggest hurdle is to overcome yourself because your head is telling you that its gonna be uncomfortable. I still have this often even though I take cold showers for like 10 years. But once I step under the shower the feeling is completely gone. And the energy boost and feeling of vitality afterwards is just awesome.
Taking ice baths is next level stuff tho. :D

My strategy I've been using for months is going from hot to cold. I start my showers off hot to open and clean out pores in my skin and have a relaxing sauna effect. The last 5 minutes I spend cold to tighten the cleaned pores again. I kinda think of this as open pores, clean pores, close them again process. I haven't struggled with any acne since.

The training equipment you listed sounds like a good place to start, heck it might be all you need if you utilize them correctly. I have a similar setup in my basement, I got a 5 in 1 workout station where I can do pull-ups, chin-ups, dips, push-ups and leg raises. I also got dumbbells, a sit-up bench, a heavybag, jumprope and a elliptical.I rarely use the elliptical though because I get my cardio mainly through moderate jogging and walking. I have a hip injury from years ago, so I gotta go easy with my cardio.
Now as far as advice for starters, I would say that sleep and nutrition should be your foundation because if you’re not focused and you’re not getting the proper fuel in your body, your workouts won’t have an impact.
Now as far as actual training, I would say start doing research on HIIT and Circuit Training because IMO they are the best exercise systems that combines anaerobic and aerobic exercises.
Hope that helps and good luck👍🏾😃

@@vasco7751 Good luck with your journey. Trimming down fat can be difficult, especially when trying to build muscle. A lot of what can help me is stuff like pull ups, resistance bands, dumbbell variations of forms, push ups, etc.. Push ups for me will help me get more strength with barbells and those weights. I’m pretty lazy and I can’t even lift a 45 pound barbell very well, but manage to have it as a maximum weight. I’m 5’9, 16 and I have a difficult goal to make it to 160 or 170 pounds and be in good shape.

Hot water is comforting. Cold water is refreshing. Been on cold showers about 10 years and cold doesn't feel like cold or the opposite of hot anymore. I go from feeling hot and a bit sweaty to feeling refreshed and energized when I turn the shower from hot to cold. Always ending cold makes me feel cleaner too and prevents me from sweating in the next 24hrs. People take hot showers for the same reason they eat junk food. It gives immediate pleasure. I shower for the same reason people eat vegetables. A prolonged healthy feeling. Plus, cold numbs whatever severe chronic pain doctors are apparently unable to diagnose. But ya the cool thing is that the entire way your body perceives the cold changes over time to the point where it's not cold anymore. There's no cold shock or cold burn. It just feels like you took a good drink after a month travelling in the desert without drink. Refreshing. Cold baths have a similar effect but its a bit harder to stay in them for long. Still, makes the body feel really good for at least a day after.

What works great for me is in the morning before exercise, take a HOT shower and keep it hot until you’re clean, this loosens my muscles and helps get my blood flowing, it literally warms me up for my exercise. When you’re done and all sweaty, sore and tired, I take a COLD shower to quickly rinse off. It not only works like an ice bath to dull soreness and help heal, but helps motivate and put you in a better mood to take on the rest of your day despite being so tired and sore from exercise.

The reason cold 🥶 has these benefits is because it's a stress response to your body and when we do it often we recalibrate a new baseline to the nervous system. When we are out of chronic fight or flight our body works in balance and your body heals and can handle many illnesses.

tip when you're unused to the cold and just experience your first winter at -20°C (-4°F): breathe slowly, through your nose. if it starts to clog up, don't do anything about it, it will go away on its own. take deep, slow, breaths. your body's gonna stay warm and you can actually enjoy the feeling of the cold air on your skin this way.

Just started this myself. My current strategy is to let myself have a warm shower in the beginning, just long enough to do any actual washing. Then when I'm done, that's when I switch it to as cold as I can tolerate for a full minute before I get out.
Eventually I will start off at cooler temperatures and take colder showers for longer periods (No more than 10 minutes I think). But right now my tolerance for cold isn't very good, so it's slow and easy for me.

I used to always have a cold shower after a normal shower and frequent the sauna, along with the plunge into the ice bath afterwards, and also wear shorts and t-shirt in winter and sweater and long trousers in summer. I never had even the slightest cold until a year after I stopped doing that. I stopped mostly due to moving to another country that has hardly any sauna culture and where the standard plumbing practices does not allow for properly cold water.
