@@gabrielledebourg2487 realizing that in the 25 years since Goleneye we've only had 8 Bond films, when Living Daylights was released we had 15 (official) films in the same time frame.
The Zukovsky scene is interesting in that it changes the context of him meeting Bond. In the final film you get the feeling that he recognizes the sound of the PPK because of previous run ins with 00’s. With the deleted scene it’s more implied that he recognizes it because of his vast knowledge of firearms.
It's still kind of unbelievable that you could get recognize a gun so specifically by sound, especially since there are several gun that are essentially clones of the ppk. It makes a little more sense if he associates the sound with specific people that might be coming after him.
3:18 - Rare, the GoldenEye 007 videogame developers, went to the sets and took a million photos of things. They also took set design plans, so they could reference them when creating levels (the start of Facility for example is quite accurate to the film). So yes it's, very possible they included some guardhouse details which were later cut from the film. (To me this actually looks more like the guardhouse in the Runway level, where you get the key to the plane - with a filing cabinet, desk lamp, little table, and two guards inside).
Yes, Goldeneye the video game was originally set to be a game on the SNES system. The game was suppose to be out to retailers in 1995, but Rare ran into trouble during development when the discovered that Nintendo was canceling support for the SNES in favor of the upcoming Ultra 64 system( this was name that the Nintendo 64 had during its developmental cycle). If you watched the Esquire video of Pierce Brosnan watching and commenting on Goldeneye, he discusses that scene of him pulling the PPK on Zukofsky as being one of the first scenes he filmed for the movie. He goes on to explain that his hand had been in a splint prior to the scene and he had struggled trying to keep his pinky from sticking out from the gun. Upon a rewatch you can somewhat tell that his pinky isn't as comfortable on the gun as it should be.
I remember watching Goldeneye in the Cinema at the age of 11 years and 11 months, being given the OK to go in. I remember the head-butt scene, but when the film came out on TV/DVD etc it was missing, and I always thought that I'd made it up. It wasn't until I got the Bond films on iTunes that I've seen it again 20 years later!
the Natalya graveyard scene should have been kept, it would've been nice to see her grieving and reflecting everything that's been going on right before she meets up with Boris.
I am surprised to learn about the removal of the headbutting scene in the U.K.. I was too young to see GoldenEye at the Cinemas, but the original VHS release, and all subsequent television broadcasts of the film from the start featured it here in Australia. The fight between Bond and Travelyn is one of the most brutal in the franchise, with plenty of far more savage headbutts; I am guessing the authorities objected to a woman being assaulted? I would have preferred the first deleted scene, as it is reminiscent of the Daltan installments, which GoldenEye was initially written for afterall and when the U.S.S.R. was still extant. Gives us an idea of what date in history the scene is meant to take place, though I'm not sure why a Soviet military parade would feature a musical piece from the time of Peter the Great, though it does form a coda when we first see a glance of St. Petersburg Square. I heard on the GoldenEye commentary from Martin Campbell and Michael G. Wilson that they also cut out some parts due to them being too violent. Like them showing 006's face as Ourumov shoots him, or the MUCH longer version of Xenia being strangled by the tree. I'm very interested in seeing those!
Hi again, Mr. Dyson. In addition to it being great to see these deleted scenes and your take on them, the funniest thing about this video is how you correct the director on his mispronunciation of "counterfeeet". Loved that!
The fact that all these scenes were a take-it-or-leave-it matter is a testament to the writers and the directive taste of Martin Campbell. Great video!
I believe there was originally a shot of Alec getting shot in the head and blood coming out. It was cut for being too graphic and would have increased the film's age rating. Also the developers for the N64 GoldenEye did visit the film's sets when making the game so that could explain the Dam level at the start looking a bit like the first deleted scene here.

One thing that always bugged me with GoldenEye was that Q gave a rundown of the new card and gadgets but they were never showin in action or came into play. It's like a scene was dropped somewhere later in the film?
By the way in the Goldeneye N64 the first level had a cut boat part where you go out to an island to do something but was cut. But if you have the sniper you can see the island is still there.
I like the scene with Zukovsky, I think it does really good showing his knowledge, but I agree that I think I like his official introduction much more. In one line, he not only shows his knowledge in guns ("Walther PPK! 7.65 Milimeter"), but also his knowledge of who uses it ("Only three men I know use such a gun..."), AND his nature as a character, or at the very least giving him some quick exposition ("I believe I killed two of them"). The gun buying scene just needlessly prolongs the exposition. I just feel that his quickness with that single line just adds to his character just fine, without feeling like it's dragging. It's still a cool scene to watch though. Goldeneye is definitely on my top 3 list of 007 films, so I enjoy seeing this.
Interesting scenes to see, but I agree with the cuts, especially the guard tower scene. I love the way it is in the final movie, perfect pacing and a sense of suspense and urgency with getting inside the complex.

I'm glad we got a return appearance in 'world' but I do think finishing there was fine. He is a character very much rooted in his time [90's post Communist, pre-Putin Russia].
Marvellous stuff, loved seeing more footage from one of my favourite Bond films. Look forward to you reacting to more deleted scenes from the other films.
Getting rid of the intro of Coltrane's character makes the PPK observation come off as random in the final movie, but overall improves the pacing of the scene...
When Goldeneye 64 was developed they were given a copy of the movie script and even blueprints of the sets for level design. Pretty impressive. Not even triple A titles today put in that effort.
Couldn't believe they'd cut Goldeneye for the video and DVD releases. Love seeing deleted scenes and extras on DVD/Blu-rays. The boat chase deleted scenes from TWINE wouldn't have added anything to the film but the Goldeneye ones would have been good to see in an extended cut if only to make Goldeneye a bit more emersive for those of us who've seen the film countless times. They're all good but I can see the cut of Goldeneye was better paced without them. I love Natalia there was talk of her returning in the next film and it was disappointing when she didn't.
Goldeneye is my absolute favorite film in the series. This along with OHMSS, Goldfinger, Living Daylights are my top films. Trevelyan is my favorite villian, Onnatop my favorite henchman with Oddjob. I love General Oramuv, and the scene here with Boris should have stayed in the film. Oramuvs stare and face, as Bond walks behind the cart of tanks in the pre title is so incredible. His facial expressions speak volumes. Zakovsky one of my favorite allies. And i do like the BMW Z3. The car in TND, no. Any more scenes with Coltrane or Godfreid John welcome. And yes Trevelyan, Onnatop, Orumov, and Boris on a train, would be great. I cant think of a better foil, or villian for Bond to go up against then, well, James Bond himself. That is who Alec Trevelyan is. When he asks for Bonds watch. Looks at it asks : " Q up too his old tricks, is he ?" . " ah, new model ", looks at his own Q Watch. " Still press here " as he disarms Bonds bombs. Just great tension. Trevelyan knows Bond too well, anticipated his moves. And Brosnans look of " oh crap", was great. He was hoping Trevelyan would just overlook it. The guard house looks like it belongs in Red Dawn ( original ). But great video Calvin.
Calvin, they were so touchy about headbutting that even _attempted headbutts_ were cut from the close quarters fight between Bond and Trevelyan in the 12 certificate version. Go watch that sequence again and compare it to the 15 certificate print. It is alarming how much material was excised and a demonstration of what a censorial trainwreck the BBFC had become in the 80s and 90s. In fact, if you look up a great video series called "Cutting Edge", they have pretty comprehensive episodes for both _GoldenEye_ and the long lost violent first submission for _Tomorrow Never Dies_ .
I first saw the headbutt scene on one of ITV's broadcasts, but it wasn't then in future broadcasts, well not all of them anyway. Maybe the scene would sometimes shown depending on the time they would air the film or maybe it was a mistake that one time I was watching.
I think it's interesting to see these scenes, but I certainly agree with the choice to cut them. The only scene that wouldn't ruin the pacing badly is the one between Ourumov and Boris. Not that the other ones are bad, but they don't make much sense to keep in the film.
Agree totally regarding the opening scene. The inclusion of the guardhouse scenes would have totally lost the momentum of the opening. The arms dealer scene, while interesting didn't add anything as did the gardening thing, but it does explain the gardening comment in the released version of the film. Reminds me of the Plenty in the pool thing in DAF. One of those "what???" moments. The computer scene is kind of just filler and while amusing doesn't really move the story along. Regarding your comment about creating a Bond universe, the issue with this, IMHO, is they keep killing off all the interesting characters, most notably of recent vintage, Mathis. Great video, 😊
Total geek fan moment for me watching these scenes was awesome I caught a few of them previously but always fun to watch a video with another huge goldeneye fan talking about them
Totally forgot about those GoldenEye edits! Finally owning the film uncut was so magical back in the day. I remember Tomorrow Never Dies had a few similar shots removed (and finally reinstated) They always used to turn up on the ITV broadcasts. Guess the BBFC didn't really like Bond going around stamping on peoples necks....
Actually, the developers of GoldenEye 64 did get permission to go onto the film sets and get a bit more detail for the Maps. So that's probably how they knew
Regarding the Boris/Ourumov scene, the train is clearly moving and yet Boris claims he's online. Was it even possible to have reliable (wireless) internet access on a moving vehicle at the time? (Especially in Russia, not too long after the dissolution?)
One of my favourite bond films. I would have liked the first deleted scene left in. I think it be a good start to building up the momentum of the opening scene, and also showcases the stealth of the character.
The headbutt was already in the Australian VHS and DVD releases. Maybe it's a UK thing? Speaking of Goldeneye, did you have any luck getting that RetroTINK 2X? I see they've sold out of the classic model and are only selling the Pro version now. Either should do the trick for ideal N64 capture, especially if you're using an S-video compatible N64. I can't stress enough the troubles that console has caused when it comes to getting decent video quality out of.
The UK film certificaters used to be quite touchy about violence. Licence To Kill, GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Casino Royale all had to be trimmed down. Thankfully they've now been re-instated. The one no one will ever see is the six shots Bond uses on Professor Dent in Dr No. After being cut in 1962, EON have now lost the footage.
I agree with what you said of it would kill the scene if they did the first deleted scene, but it would make more sense of how Bond would know that the plane was arriving with that shot of the plane that he saw
Martin Campbell must be one of the most efficient and effective directors in the industry, right back his early work in action series like "The Professionals".
Cool material, this and deleted scenes from 19 film ;-) In my opinion Tomorrow Never Dies has the best deleted scenes of the DVD content, especialy scene Jaguar - is very cute and fun!
GoldenEye will always be my favorite bond's film: 1 GoldenEye 2 Goldfinger 3 The Living Daylights 4 On Her Majesty's secret Service 5 The Spy who loved me 6 Tomorrow never Dies 7 Dr No 8 Thunderball 9 The Man with the Golden Gun 10 Licence to Kill I hate Craig but i do admit that Skyfall is a masterpiece ;-)
Spooky, I just began reading John Gardner’s _GoldenEye_ novelisation today. Ain’t that a coincidence? Either way, Gardner retains the Dam guard house bit - heck, in the book Bond kills the men there. Though he does omit the toilet stall kill, sadly. But I’m only up to the theft of the Tiger helicopter so I can’t say if any of the other deleted scenes made it in.
Calvin Dyson Sad to say, no. The story’s recognisable but all the dialogue’s a bit off. Like, remember when Bond and Caroline first see Xenia? The line in the film is: “C: I enjoy a spirited ride as much as the next girl, but... who’s that? B: The next girl.” Whereas in the book it’s: “C: I like a spirited drive as much as the next girl but... who the blazes is that? B: Haven’t a clue. But from here she has good lines, and she’s certainly shaking her tail at us.” I’d make some pithy joke, but I think the change speaks for itself.
@@calvindyson The best thing about the Gardner book I found was it gives a great side story of Natalya and her journey from Severnaya to St. Petersberg. Sadly when it comes to Bond, Gardner inserts all these cringy one-liners that just don't fit Bond's character
Movie Guy Yeah, Scorpius is one of my least favourite JG Bond books. Which is odd, because you’d think Bond going against a crazed cult leader would be a really interesting idea. I dunno, there are some interesting bits when Bond infiltrates the cult compound, but it’s all undone by a pisspoor ending which really feels like it was rushed to meet a deadline.
That scene with Bond and Wade would have cleared up so many loose ends, not least of all the mention of an exchange taking place at Kirov's funeral parlour. In the theatrical release, it made little sense and this would have covered it.
i hate when films have deleted scenes that ties loose ends... like titanic had 31 deleted scenes that fitted some of the theatrical scenes but i think the scenes in goldeneye taken out was a good call, i found it boring but would have wanted to see Boris and Ourmouv scene
Too sad that the Goldeneye sitcom would never happen - at least not with Gottfried John. About the last scene: I know this movie only with that scene. I had no idea that there were versions of the movie where it wasn't included.

I'm fairly certain all US versions of Goldeneye have that scene in it, since the film was rated PG-13 when released and didn't need to be edited for a lower rating.

I'm glad we got a return appearance in 'world' but I do think finishing there was fine. He is a character very much rooted in his time [90's post Communist, pre-Putin Russia].
I need to watch Calvin play Goldeneye on N64! It will be a dream come true!
Coming soon! 😄😁
Marvellous stuff, loved seeing more footage from one of my favourite Bond films. Look forward to you reacting to more deleted scenes from the other films.
Anyone who says that the HK MP5 is obsolete doesn't know much about guns.
Great take on these deleted scenes! I never saw these, and I totally agree about the last scene. Great choice of BGM, too.
Great video, Calvin - really loved seeing these deleted scenes along with Martin's and your commentary.
It would be interesting to see you do the Casino Royale deleted scenes. Another great Martin Campbell Bond film . .
Another Bond film that was sometimes cut depending where you live. Some of the torture scene was edited out in the UK theatrical release.
According to Pierce on his recent GoldenEye Watchparty he and Gottried John became friends during the film, and would often go out for evening meals.
Your Sheriff JW Pepper artwork is on point
I kind of like the scene with Zukovsky and think it would have been a cool way to introduce his character. Goldeneye is such a great film.
You know when Martin cuts scenes with well reasoning behind doing so that he's the ideal Bond director...
The headbutt scene was on my US vhs copy. hilarious..
yea same never knew that was taken out else wear
apparently you can strangle a woman against a tree but do not headbutt her in the U.K
Seeing Ourumov smile is trippy
Now the “Hey Bond, you like gardening?” line makes a bit more sense
I first saw the headbutt scene on one of ITV's broadcasts, but it wasn't then in future broadcasts, well not all of them anyway. Maybe the scene would sometimes shown depending on the time they would air the film or maybe it was a mistake that one time I was watching.
I think it's interesting to see these scenes, but I certainly agree with the choice to cut them. The only scene that wouldn't ruin the pacing badly is the one between Ourumov and Boris.
Not that the other ones are bad, but they don't make much sense to keep in the film.
I simply love this channel
I'm pretty sure that some of the Rare devs were on set for the recording of Goldeneye which is why the game feels so much like the movie.
Excellent video Calvin. You should do the Casino Royale delete scenes next.
I remember hearing about the head butt scene at the time of release as apparently audiences in South Eat Asia were seeing the 'uncut version'.
Sean bean is brilliant in that role
I agree, it would have been fine to keep the guard shack scene in the opening.
The guy playing the Pakistani arms dealer is in Emmerdale now, was a surprise to see him here
In Germany Goldeneye had a 16+ but there was a DVD Version where it was 12+
The shot of 006 coughing blood after he fell off the satellite, and the shot of him screaming when the satellite falls on him were both removed
I love your face when you are watching the Valentin scene 🤣
You know what I found great: A scene between Bond and Boris where they are talking to each other.
Good work again
Someone should just download those deleted clips, merge with original and release
Calvin you should join Letterboxd. A really great app for film buffs
Funny you should say that as I a recently have!! Search for Calvin Dyson and you should find me! 😄
Calvin love u r vids but I wish u could upload more
Cool material, this and deleted scenes from 19 film ;-)
In my opinion Tomorrow Never Dies has the best deleted scenes of the DVD content, especialy scene Jaguar - is very cute and fun!
GoldenEye will always be my favorite bond's film:
1 GoldenEye
2 Goldfinger
3 The Living Daylights
4 On Her Majesty's secret Service
5 The Spy who loved me
6 Tomorrow never Dies
7 Dr No
8 Thunderball
9 The Man with the Golden Gun
10 Licence to Kill
I hate Craig but i do admit that Skyfall is a masterpiece ;-)
why do you hate craig??
@@scottgrasser9737 Because he's a miscast bore?
The headbutt scene was definitely on the Norwegian VHS.
Hey Calvin! A great video that you should do is a top ten 007 movie soundtrack list! PS: Luv your channel😍😍😍
7:54 Did he just call Natalia, Isabella???
Izabella Scorupco, the actress’s name
The Ouromov/Boris scene is the biggest and saddest loss for me. Would have been cool to have them together for once.
As always an amazing video
Calvin and Izabella, sitting in a... cemetery? B.O.N.D.I.N.G. First there’s love, then there’s... **censored**
The actor who plays the Pakistani gun dealer is a regular cast member of Emmerdale
Good video, hope you get back to reviewing Gardners books soon
Imo classic bond films are:-
Dr No
FRWL
Goldfinger
OHMSS
LALD
TSWLM
TLD
Goldeneye
Casino Royale
Spooky, I just began reading John Gardner’s _GoldenEye_ novelisation today. Ain’t that a coincidence? Either way, Gardner retains the Dam guard house bit - heck, in the book Bond kills the men there. Though he does omit the toilet stall kill, sadly.
But I’m only up to the theft of the Tiger helicopter so I can’t say if any of the other deleted scenes made it in.
It’s going to be so weird experiencing the GoldenEye story through the Gardner filter... Kinda hoping he just reformatted the script!
Calvin Dyson Sad to say, no. The story’s recognisable but all the dialogue’s a bit off. Like, remember when Bond and Caroline first see Xenia? The line in the film is:
“C: I enjoy a spirited ride as much as the next girl, but... who’s that?
B: The next girl.”
Whereas in the book it’s:
“C: I like a spirited drive as much as the next girl but... who the blazes is that?
B: Haven’t a clue. But from here she has good lines, and she’s certainly shaking her tail at us.”
I’d make some pithy joke, but I think the change speaks for itself.
@@calvindyson The best thing about the Gardner book I found was it gives a great side story of Natalya and her journey from Severnaya to St. Petersberg. Sadly when it comes to Bond, Gardner inserts all these cringy one-liners that just don't fit Bond's character
I started Scorpius by Gardner months ago! Still haven‘t finished it, because it‘s so damn boring!
The Indian gun seller is in Emmerdale or was I haven't watched it in yonks.
We have "Eastenders" in Ireland too Calvin hahaha
I just want more of Calvin doing an american accent.
Too sad that the Goldeneye sitcom would never happen - at least not with Gottfried John.
About the last scene: I know this movie only with that scene. I had no idea that there were versions of the movie where it wasn't included.
You know which scene I would find great: A scene where Bond and Boris are talking to each other.
"Don't mind me, I just look after the computers."
(Picked up some ammo.)
"Oops! Please don't shoot, Trevelyan made me do it.)
If I had to guess, I’d wager that the Boris/Orumov scene would have happened between the Funeral Parlor and the Spa.
Hey Calvin, what games are you reviewing after GoldenEye 007 for the n64? Are you gonna go back to older games or are you gonna review diffrent versions of the games you already reviewed, like the PC-version of nightfire or the GBA-versuon of Everything or Nothing?
Hmm now I need to check if my US BluRay has the headbutting cut.
I'm fairly certain all US versions of Goldeneye have that scene in it, since the film was rated PG-13 when released and didn't need to be edited for a lower rating.
I’ve got the headbutting scene on DVD
